We booked this hotel to be close to where we would pick up our Britz. The managers have just recently taken over and were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very basic and aged but you are not paying a huge amount. Yes, it is on the Stuart Highway so of course you get noise. It is a matter of you pay for what you get. If it's just to put your head on a pillow it's fine but don't expect the Ritz.

Every now and then people surprise us. My friend was stranded at Darwin airport with no $. David from Hiway motel trusted me and accepted my credit card payment for a night's stay (I rang from Melbourne), gave my friend dinner and safely got him back to the airport the next day. He could easily have said no. The room was clean and good value- the service impeccable. Thanks David for helping another human being.

One pillow per bed, the thinnest pillow ever. I was sold a king size bed and a bunk bed for the kids. Got a double bed instead where you had the climb over the other half to get out. Plus jammed up against the wall greatly reduced the size of the double bed. I had to rearrange the room myself to make us all happy and to be able to get out of the bed without climbing over the other one. I had to show the staff that it wasn’t a king room despite being told on multiple occasions and on check in. Plus it was an inconvenience to get at least a bigger less worn out pillow for the double bed

The room was supposed to have coffee/tea facilities. This consisted of a fridge with uht milk, no coffee, tea or sugar and no cups or jug to boil the water. Even if I had a jug there would have been nowhere to plug it in. I stayed in a transit room which meant shared bathroom. It would have been good if the one bathroom had been cleaned at least once in the past year. The only place to leave your clothes was on top of a grotty water heater.
They advertised a continental breakfast, surely this consists of something more than muesli, coffee/tea and toast with vegemite. Oh one morning they did have orange juice pity they didn't have any glasses.
Overall the stairs to the dining room looked like they have never seen a broom. A door on the wardrobe would have been handy as well as a chair and table which could also have been used to put the non existent kettle on.
Overall over priced, dirty and a ripoff

Travelled as a couple 6 or 7 years ago. I thought it was ok while there. It's been an horrific aftermath since in terms of the irreparable damage done to my relationship. I have come to believe that I was drugged here one night. I believe that at least two males were involved. One being another customer of the hiway inn and the other being the manager, Stewart/Stuart.
Being a smoker, I would go outside for a smoke and coffee and sit at the bottom of the stairs, often meeting other guests doing likewise. This is where I think the drug was slipped into my soft drink/coffee probably by the guest accomplice. Apparently I disappeared for the whole night. I was seen getting into a truck in the car park and going into another room with the manager. I have no memory of this. My first memory next day was being up and packing to leave. It has taken this long for many of these things to come to light. I would never go there again and I put this as a serious caution to other potential guests of the female gender.

2 couples Shared room. Facilities well below average. I don't know how it is operating.
Very expensive compared to other accommodation we had on our trip.
We were told it was basic but it was well below what I call basic.
Very busy highway. Couldn't sleep because of traffic noise.

All this so called Motel is missing is the prostitutes and drug dealers.

Woken at 6am by the rowdy drunks upstairs, when I complained to the front desk they didn't care.

Booked for two nights, stayed for one.

Holes in walls with very little water pressure in the morning for showers.

Noisy hiway traffic.

When your plane arrives at 2am, youre not spoilt for choice. Paying $150 night for a 5 hour sleep in a hotel room with a broken aircon. Being woken up by the smokers chugging away at your door, was my intro to the NT.
I was not expecting the Hilton, but a little common sense wouldnt go astray here, along with just a tiny bit of company profit spent back on the rooms!

We had travelled for 5 hours to get there, another 15 mins in a taxi would have given us far greater choice (and comfort) in Darwin!

Hi Carolyn, That would work quite well, we did much the same arriving at 2am, the manager (Dave) was very obliging. The rooms are ordinary but it's right on the highway then an easy drive to Kakakdu about 4 hours. What are you driving? We know this area quite well so let me know if you need any more info.
