Detailed Reviews
Staff need retraining to deal with conflict resolutions. I turned up a day early to be told I had NO booking, until receptionist looked further. After checking bank statements found a deduction of $228. Rang hotel to be told it was for 2 days booking from the 10th. Jetstar flight to Darwin left Melbourne on the 10th and I stayed elsewhere. ?????¿¿??¿?

First a bath with no plug, when asked we don’t have one in the whole building. Aircon that doesn’t work. Room underwhelming. Pub down stairs looks like a dungeon and ran by a very rude Manager. Gaming room dark and horrible. Staff smoke out the front in front of patrons. Let’s say this place has no class especially management.

Wish there was an option for no stars.
checked in and immediately the room smelt like cigarette. Towels had marks on them and there was a cockroach in the shower. I checked out about an hour later.
On staff member was quite rude. But the rest were nice.

A good half hour walk into the centre of Darwin, and it is hot in the Top End. Good pool, next door to the Pub, which is used by the locals, singlets and muscles, but all friendly and polite. Has own bottle store but nearest shops are in town. Roof top resturant has great views, reasonably priced but poor service. Pretty much the same food is available in the bar at less cost. Rooms standard modern hotel, good size, and helpful reception staff. Car parking. Nearest good resturant is the Chinese behind the hotel.

This hotel needs a major face lift, but the major issue was that I found bed bugs in the bed on my second and last night, also a major leak in the bathroom obviously from the room upstairs. When I checked out, I advised the staff, but he did not even acknowledge this or apologise!! I certainly will not be using this hotel again and will also advise all my colleagues( who travel often) and friends about the poor standard of this hotel.
The only redeeming feature was the roof top restaurant, where the food was fantastic and the service impeccable

Do not stay here if you are female! Creepy old guys coming down to the pool and zooming in on lone women. At first glance the room seems nice then you notice bubbling paint, lights that won't work. The bathroom is horrifying and under no circumstances should a woman attend the Punters Bar downstairs. Dodgy,sleazy..local drunks favorite haunt. The staff are pleasant enough but the building is under maintenance but I would suggest that this very tired old building be bulldozed and the sooner Darwin is rid of the Frontier Hotel, the better Darwin will be.

We had a very unpleasant experience here in April. Our room was booked on the internet as a mid range hotel and the room was priced at $180 and our great price was $140. This was booked 4 months before arriving. A friend checked out the hotel and was told the price was $90 a night. Big difference! We checked out after one night and the hotel lost 5 nights of business. When we did check out the receptionist said regarding the price that that is the chance you take booking on the internet. When we checked in late the bar was closed and the vending machine didn't work. The night clerk was very disinterested in the fact that we hadn't eaten dinner and it is midnight. As he was checking the machines several times before he believed us that it didn't work.. The money flew out of the machine and then he agreed finally but offered no other options for us. The water tap in the bathtub ran constantly. No sympathy. Someone was supposed to check it but obviously didn't...
Breakfast in the roof top dining room was a pleasant experience for the view and waitress. The meal itself was the greasiest food I have ever eaten. Take this hotel off your list.

OK, I can't really RECOMMEND this place because it's nothing special, but from the reviews I thought it would be miserable. Not sure what's going on because the place is professionally run and, for a Quality Inn, it's perfectly acceptable. Rooms were comfortable, décor was reasonably modern, beds were fine, hot water, etc. Pool area was OK; not great, but this is a Quality Inn, not a resort. I saw worse facilities at other Choice Hotel brand properties in Australia, so I'm not sure why this one is being singled out for abuse.
The Clientele is also fine. Yes, I saw some folks in work uniforms, but they looked like upstanding employed citizens to me.
The only thing truly "bad" about the hotel is the price in peak-season. Darwin hotels are VERY expensive during that time, and you probably won't feel your hotel is "worth it." That certainly applies to this hotel, which perhaps explains some of the unhappiness. But go in with low expectations and I think you'll agree with me that the place isn't so bad.

Despite some dreadful reviews, our room was spacious, clean and well equiped. Perhaps we were in one of the recently upgraded rooms (we were on the 6th floor), but we were very pleasantly surprised and very happy with our room. We booked on Wotif and the rates were reasonable. The hotel is in a very convenient location.
