Nestled in a prime location in Darwin, DoubleTree by Hilton Esplanade Darwin garners praise for its proximity to attractions and dining. The modern, comfortable rooms are a highlight, although there are some mentions of needed updates.
While guests appreciate the hotel's overall cleanliness and friendly service, additional charges for amenities like WiFi have been a point of contention. Nevertheless, the hotel's tropical atmosphere, inviting pool, and commendable buffet breakfast add to its appeal, making it a noteworthy choice for many travelers.

Detailed Reviews
My first encounter with a Double Tree by Hilton was in Alice Springs. The outside of the building doesn’t have the best appearance but the magic is certainly on the inside. So my expectation was the same for the Double Tree Esplanade in Darwin. Unfortunately I was let down in many areas.
The positives for this hotel are that they’re located in a convenient area of Darwin and also serviced by the majority of tour operators.
Now the sad part; all of the negatives.
The rooms themselves are quite decent and clean. However the bathrooms feel like 1980’s vintage and in the three rooms I stayed, all had leaking showers. One was so bad it reminded me of the way Lake Eyre fills after a massive wet season by the amount of water collecting around the toilet.
Towards the end of the wet season, Darwin can still experience absurd levels of humidity, often over 90%. The air conditioning in some rooms was just non existent and completely uncomfortable.
House keeping staff were minimal which resulted in some rooms still being serviced at 6:30pm and beyond. Glassware and bathroom linen was not being replaced.
The dining area in restaurant Aqua was also a bit of a let down. When guests left, there was hardly an effort to clean down tables and supply adequate cutlery for incoming guests.
Lastly, so many breakfast items were consumed quickly that it required multiple requests of staff to have them attended too. If it takes ten minutes to have bacon refilled which comes out dry and cold, means it’s been sitting in the kitchen, unheated, which may be a food standards issue.
Had good expectations of this place but felt let down.

The Doubletree Hilton is a golden oldie. We loved our 4 night stay in a deluxe king room with a beautiful view across the Esplanade to the beautiful sea. The room was a very comfortable size and the bathroom although small, had a neat walk in shower and bathroom vanity - at some stage the room and bathroom had been updated.
As a gold Hilton Honors member, we really appreciated the complimentary breakfast which we ate each morning by the pool. The pool was mainly in shade so we preferred using the pool next door at the Doubletree Esplanade. We were really happy with our choice to stay here. It was great being able to walk around Darwin and see all the local sights from here. Thank you to all the friendly staff who made our stay so pleasant.

My wife and I stayed for 5 nights and absolutely loved our time at this hotel. The staff were fantastic, efficient and had a great sense of humour.
Having breakfast by the pool each morning was a highlight, there was plenty of choices for breakfast, all I missed was my daily dose of weetbix.
Our room was quiet, clean, had a nice big, comfortable bed and had plenty of space.
One feature of this hotel we loved that we have never seen before anywhere in the world was the guest laundry. There are 3 front loader washing machines ($5/load) and 3 large clothes dryers. You could put in a load of washing, go for a swim, hop out then put your washed clothes in the dryer.
The location is fantastic, fronts onto a large park which follows the esplanade. You can easily walk into Darwin CBD.
It’s about $30 for a taxi from the airport, and about $15 each way to Stokes Wharf, the Darwin Museum and other attractions.
Highly recommended!

The hotel staff went above and beyond to make our stay beautiful. The manager went out if her way to help us,when we inquired as to why we had to pay for parking, she upgraded our room as to make up for the costings for parking. Breakfast was excellent, the hotel was very clean .the bed was super comfortable, which was well needed after travelling for 7 days .we would definitely stay here again .thankyou for amazing service .10/10

+1
We could not fault this hotel. The location is perfect for young families with an amazing shaded playground directly across the road, and shops just a short walk away.
The pool is large, perfect for swimming laps, with pool noodles available to float around also. We were the only people in the pool for a late evening swim.
The room was comfortable and modern for our two teenagers and ourselves.
The staff accommodated our early baggage drop off so we didn't have to advertise our luggage in our suv when we left the car unattended before checking in later. Communication with the staff is exceptional, with phone text messages to see how our stay is going, asking for feedback.
The highlight for me was the buffet breakfast. There were so many hot and cold choices, more than any other buffet we ate at over the ten days in the Top End. It was all presented beautifully.
Upon arrival, simply drive in to the underground carpark. Don't worry about parking fees, the reception will register your number plate so you can come and go freely.
I felt the nightly price at $120 was very cheap for four people, usually we can't find a decent room under $200 in other cities.

Stayed at the hotel for 4 nights. We were in a king room on the top floor, Level 10, with views of the ocean.
The room was spacious, clean and the air con worked well. The bathroom looked recently updated and was quite nice. Nothing wrong with the room, but is was quite boring in decor. There was a single chair, but would have been better if there was a sofa to sit on - there was plenty of room for one. The choice was one person use the chair and the other the bed.
This is not a luxury hotel, so don't have high expectations.
That being said the staff were all very helpful and friendly. The hotel was very clean and housekeeping did a very good job. It was incredibly quiet, with apparently only about 15 rooms occupied whilst we were there.
The restaurant was closed, which was a shame. There was no advice of this when booked (via Qantas website), which would have been helpful. Instead they provided an alternative to use the facilities at the associated hotel next door. We didn't use that hotel as it just looked very average, we were definitely staying in the nicer hotel.
The pool was good - not large, but given we were the only ones in it when we used it, it wasn't an issue. I do think if the hotel was full then it would be way too small as it really wasn't much bigger than a large residential pool.
Parking was free which was fantastic and definitely a bonus.
Had a good stay here, no issues or complains.
It's situated in a great location and if you have an ocean view (worth the extra cost) it is fine for a few nights stay.

Having stayed at this hotel before I was extremely disappointed to arrive and then find out most of the facilities, pool, bar, restaurant etc were apparently closed due to renovations although we could go up the road to use next doors pool, bar and restaurants. When I enquired where breakfast was served I was given a $4/voucher for the inconvenience of having to walk up the road to the hotel next door - in the rain.
Later I found out the hotel closed the amenities for the wet season, not just for renovations, so having been lied to on arrival didn’t leave a very good impression on top of the fact that your website and booking process failed to say these amenities were not available as advertised. No discount or room upgrade were offered to compensate for loss of value. If I had known this prior to booking I would have gone to another hotel. One guest in our booking, stays there regularly during the dry season. She will not be using your hotel again.

Dear Ann D Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your recent stay with us at Doubletree by Hilton Darwin. I am truly sorry that your experience at DoubleTree by Hilton Darwin was not to our usually high standards and I do wish to express my sincerest apologies. Darwin is a very seasonal city. During the early months of the year, due to the wet, humid conditions we do experience very low occupancy. We did take the opportunity for an unplanned refresh just to the Poolside restaurant in which we resurfaced the hard wood restaurant floor, renovated the bar including retiling, and attended various other tasks only within the restaurant at DoubleTree by Hilton Darwin. I am truly sorry that this was taking place during your stay and that you were not informed prior of the works were being completed. In no uncertain terms did not we mean any disrespect, false impression or discomfort for your stay. We simply acted on an opportunity to upgrade our amenities in which they needed to be closed to do so. I have spoken with our team and I do believe there was misguided information in which I have fully addressed. The did pool remain open however it is clear that this information was not conveyed accurately, for this again I am truly sorry. I appreciate your continued patronage and thank you for your feedback. It is my hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the future and welcome you back. If l could cancel the rest of my stay l would. Room not made up until 7.00 pm after 2 trips to reception, 2 days in a row, no apology, advised that it is not the hotels fault because they use a third party company to clean. Maybe they need a new third party. Hotel is noisey you can hear doors banging and lift bell all night. Room is out dated and shower tiney, towels in the room and at the pool are paper thin. Breakfast is survival of the fittest, no social distancing, just people pushing and shoving, there is hand sanitizer, placed around the hotel, all empty. We have traveled around the world and have stayed in some rough hotels the difference is that they did not pretend to be something that they are not, unlike the Double Tree by Hilton. For the money there is a lot better out there.

Had a nice little stay at the Hilton Doubletree. Greeted by the friendly staff with the familiar warm chocolate cookie which was much appreciated after our drive from Jabiru.
Our room was spacious and overlooked the pool at the Hilton Double tree Esplanade next door. There are two Doubletrees in Darwin adjacent to each other and you are able to use the facilities of both and chargeback to your room. The pool at the Esplanade Double tree is much bigger and warmer with more comfortable lounges so we spent our pool time over there. It also gets better sun.
I picked this hotel over the Esplanade double tree as it had a balcony. They are only small Juliette Balconies so you couldn’t sit there but it was nice to be able to get fresh air particularly after our previous 2 NT hotel experiences.
The room was spacious and very clean. Needed some minor maintenance - eg carpet near the exterior door a little damaged. The bathroom was lovely with a nice shower. I’m not sure how old the hotel is but I would say there have been minor refurbishments over the years as the bathroom was modern and spacious and in excellent condition. It also had the signature Hilton light up makeup mirror in the bathroom which I always find super helpful. The bathroom was kitted out with the normal Hilton bathroom supplies which I always enjoy using.
The Reception staff at this hotel were exceptionally friendly and welcoming.
The only reason this hotel didn’t get 5 stars from me was because of a slight issue with the housekeeping. The housekeepers attended and replaced the towels and topped up the tea/coffee supplies but it seemed like they left half way through the job. Our dirty cups were left on the bench and the bed was not made and the caddy for the tea stuff had been taken out of its cupboard and left on the bench. Very odd. I did mention this to Reception and they offered to send up new cups but I said I’d already washed them myself. I understand there are difficulties getting staff in Darwin so perhaps this is a training issue.
This minor issue aside I very much enjoyed our stay at the Hilton Doubletree and would stay should I ever visit Darwin again. The staff here for the most part obviously take pride in the Hilton Brand and the hotel seemed like it was very well run.

Stayed in doubletree during our first visit to Darwin. Location was good. The hotel is facing the esplanade, a good place for the morning jogging. Plenty of restaurant, cafe, bar and shops within 10~15 mins walking distance. The big bus stop 2 is just one block away. There's another double tree right next door, and looks a bit older than this one.
The hotel is a U shape building, though the east wing is for offices. It also means for guest rooms in the west wing, most of them don't have a full harbor/esplanade view. We were given the junior suite at level 5. It's a split floor loft with living space + toilet downstairs and bedroom + full bathroom upstairs, which could be a challenge for seniors or people with mobility issue. Overall the room was nice though the bathroom do need some renovation. The shower cabin didn't have enough caddies/shelves for toiletries. It had only shower curtain instead of class door so the water could spill to the floor. They should really remove the bath tub (who need it in Darwin...) and replace it with a better rainfall shower.
Service-wise is a mix feeling. The reception team was nice. Warm welcome, big smile, and always helpful. The breakfast was OK. Nothing to complain though the choice was limited. The housekeeping was a letdown. We went out early morning for brekkie then a tour, returned at 1pm and found the room was still not made. Asked the front desk to inform the housekeeping team then went to nearby Irish bar for lunch. Returned to the hotel after 1.5 hours and the room was still not made. Contacted the front desk again. This time the housekeeping lady finally came but she left 2 dirty glasses not cleaned. It's a disappointment.
To sum up, it's a nice hotel. A renovation on the bathroom and some improvement of the housekeeping team will make it better.
