I had booked a room at the Brook Hotel several weeks before, through booking.com I tried to check in at approximately 1400hrs but was told the Manager was too busy at the moment. I said that’s fine and will come back later. I received a phone call from the Manager at approximately 1500hrs stating that the room had been double booked. I explained to them that I was there for a function and thus why I booked this Hotel. They said I could book into one of there other Hotels, on the other side of town. I asked them were they going to pay for the Taxi’s. Which was a No. I was then left without accommodation. How does a Hotel double book and not realise until 1500hrs that day?

Excellent place to stay. From the outside expectations were different but inside was superb. Nicely set up. All amenities required were there. Shops are literally next door. Wifi worked well. Plenty of car-parking. The bar and bistro is right there is needed. Bistro open only certain days and hours. If I had to be picky it would be the desk chair. You kind of sunk in it when trying to sit on it. But overall a great place to stay.

All rooms are on the ground floor so there is nothing to stop someone from coming up to your door late at night and asking to come in. This is exactly what I experienced last night when at 10:30 pm I had a knock on my door from out of the blue. At first I ignored it but then after a minute they knocked again. Since the door didn’t have a keychain or keyhole I kept the door shut. The man on the other side of the door asked me “if I was working” and in my shock I just said “what?.” After I heard a car driving off I realised he must have been expecting an escort or prostitute. I immediately rang the manager who said she would send security over to look around and that was the last I heard of it. Checking out this morning I broached it with the manager on duty where I asked if the incident had been logged and to my surprise he knew nothing about it. I explained how it left me feeling sleepless and unsafe and that I expected a refund for the night. On two other occasions in the 5 nights I stayed my room had to be accessed for building maintenance to be performed. I’m both of these occasions the hotel was kind enough to offer me a free meal at the bar. When I later called back to ask about being refunded for the night the manager through these back in my face as if to say I didn’t have a valid complaint and they had already bent over backwards for me. At the very least the hotel should have security cameras where they would’ve been able to see who had knocked on my door. Instead the establishment told me it must’ve just been a prank from one of the other guests and tried to brush me off. Needless to say this is totally unacceptable and I wouldn’t want any other person to be put it risk through this obvious negligence and lack of security.

I chose this venue while looking for affordable accommodation as it was close to a function I was attending, and was happy with the standard of the room for the price. I found all areas clean, (even on top of the fan blades had been dusted recently). The bed was firm but comfortable enough, and the condition of the paint was good (I'm guessing painted in the last 5 years). I did not notice any loud noise from the hotel itself, but I returned to the room late that evening. The only real downside was the room was musty smelling. Ben, who handle check-in was prompt, efficient and friendly. He says the hotel and rooms are due to be demolished and rebuilt in the future, and while an update will be good, I suspect the price will double to pay for it, and that would be a shame, as budget accommodation is not that plentiful. I would stay here again if I needed accommodation in the area in future. I cannot comment on the hotel food, as I was attending an evening function elsewhere.

A very nice, clean, and functioning place to stay. The bistro offers great food and beer. The bed was surprisingly nice and accommodation cost was superb. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

We booked to stay for 4 nights, the site showed the front of the actual hotel. On arriving on Friday 9th March the room had a strong musky smell in the room, like mould or wet carpet. I asked for another room and none were available. The rooms are from the 1960's there is no exhaust fan in bathroom, nor shelf or vanity unit to place your bag with various soap, shampoo or other things like deodorant. The TV would not tune in to all channels, and the only thing supplied in the room an electric jug had to be placed on the floor. The hooks in the bathroom are at the top of the door so you have to be over 6 foot tall to use them. The outside of the building looks like a prison cell about 50 metres out the back of the hotel,it's unlit at night. There was a gutter covered by about 20cm of leaves, which meant you could not see the gutter, in which my wife fell into (she had a foot reconstruction a couple of years ago) A small breakfast pack is provided, but on weekends the hotel staff said they had run out or did not know where they were. I asked for the manager several times over the weekend but told to wait till Monday morning. On Monday about 11-00am he arrived and I showed him some of the problems, he agreed the place needs an immediate renovation. I told him I will go to Fair Trading, we weren't going to stay another night, at least he gave us a full refund of 4 nights. But if you are going to stay at the Brook Hotel, with its present condition, they should not charge more than $ 60 per night

There were Reception Staff shortages, whom we tried to see a number of times, regarding a few issues. On our return visit, in late March, we were charged twice for the same 3 night accommodation. They did subsequently refund us. According to the guest registration card (which the guest must sign) there was/is - 1) A $200 charge for lost/damaged room keys. 2) A $1,500 charge, for any false fire alarm - No clarification on responsibility. This hotel is part of the Woolworths (ALH) Hotel Group and some of the guest rules appear "a bit" onerous.

I stay in a range of hotels all across the south east, by far this has been the worst experience ever, Bedclothes stink of stale cigarettes, Cockroaches in my room, Only some channels on the Tv are working, Ordered steak at the bar with onion rings as a side and they brought me a steak with calamari rings and when I tried telling the waiter I ordered onion rings instead of calamari rings he wanted an extra 6 dollars for them, rant over.

We went there for our group Christmas lunch. The booking process was a whole lot of promises by two different persons. We said there would be 30-35 men and we would confirm in the morning of our Lunch. We were offered an alternative food drop Chicken and Roast beef. with Desert and Tea and Coffee provided and no room hire cost. On the day we rang and said there was confirmed 32 men and possibility of extra one or two may turn up at the door. When it came to pay we were hit for 33 men and only 32 turned up. We are a not for profit organisation with small funds available. We like to patronise our local establishements when ever we go out. The Brook Hotel is now off our list. The food was not exceptional, vegies were hard, service was pleasant but not outstanding. There was no moving them on having to pay for the extra person that we did not have. If you are looking for a good low cost venue for a group of people then give the Brook Hotel a miss.
