The Mantra Esplanade Cairns hotel, while boasting a prime location that guests love for its access to local attractions and amenities, struggles with its reputation due to outdated rooms and additional fees for cleaning services that leave some travelers dissatisfied. A very comfortable 5 night stay at a very reasonable tariff. We chose not to have our room serviced but fresh towels and more coffee, toiletries were readily available on request. We stayed in a modern, comfortable and clean apartment with a small kitchenette. The only disappointment was that the website advertises that it has a gym; it should also advise that it is currently closed due to health restrictions.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights and were greeted with very good customer service. The one bedroom apartment we stayed in was clean, cutlery and crockery was in plastic wraps after being thoroughly cleaned, the location is excellent with two exit doors providing easy access and the building is charming. Really nice and helpful reception staff who did not hesitate providing additional toiletries etc when required plus the desk was 24/7. We will definitely stay here again.

Mantra esplanade is located in a central position which is great if you don't have a car. You will have direct access to the lagoon pool on the esplanade and range of resturaunts/supermarkets. The staff at mantra are amazing and friendly. Our son accidentally left his shoes behind and they were able to locate and ship them back to us in a timely manner.

Unfortunately the hotel is let down by its upkeep. For a 4 star hotel and $360 a night it was not worth the money. The room itself was relatively clean and the beds comfortable but that was let down by ripped and stained blinds, holes in walls that had not been patched as well as a huge pile of dust that had not been cleaned for sometime above the mirror. Much of the furniture was worn scratched and dated and this made the room appear cheap.

We did enjoy our stay based on the location of the hotel but would recommend an update to maintain customer satisfaction.

We called and booked directly with Mantra and were told we would have a high room with water views but they were more like water glimpses. For $238 for the night I would expect much better.
The rooms looked nothing like the photos. The curtains had stains and also what looked like dried blood on them.
The kitchenette bench had a pieces out of it and was tired and lifeless.
The stovetop did not look useable. The shower is in a bathtub, so if you are elderly with bad hips or knees, this may not be for you.
The phone beside the bed looked filthy beneath the lamplight.
Our bed was comfortable, but here again the stitching on the bed base was well and truly coming apart.
The toilet did not always want to flush.
We had stayed in Yeppoon before this in a little place that had been newly renovated and was so clean and fresh and $80 cheaper. ( no wonder it is constantly sold out). We then stayed at The Ville after Yeppoon and before Cairns - The Ville cannot be faulted with its water views to Magnetic Island (and even if you were to stay on the other side - the views of the Marina and Castle Hill are just as lovely). The Ville is well worth the money you spend to stay there as it’s interiors and surrounds are modern, fresh and spotless. After Cairns we stayed at Ridges in Mackay and once again the room rate was cheaper at under $200 for the night and the room seemed to be twice the size with the bathroom toilet kitchenette and bedroom and also had two tvs . It was so clean, modern and fresh in comparison to the Mantra Esplanade in Cairns. I do not think I would book with the Mantra group again if what we stayed in, in Cairns was the standard.
Do not waste your money.

My wife and I spent about a week at Mantra Esplanade, got room 607 with ocean view. We really enjoyed the view and location of this hotel, however, many of the room's appliances and furniture were poorly maintained and bothered us. Starting with the air conditioner, which was visually damaged, without the fins, and very dirty, the last day still began to drip water through it on the floor (we had to get some glasses and cloths to contain the leak). The bathroom exhaust fan did not work, after a few days we began to notice a bad smell due to the moisture that was retained in the room after the shower. Several furniture had an old look and some exterior damage. The best point of the room was the comfort and size of the bed.

Other remarks are the card system for room access, elevator and other common areas such as the pool. Readers rarely read your card the first time, you have to try again and again to get access, it has gotten us very stressed sometimes. We saw it happen to other visitors as well, and even tried to help them after learning some tricks. As for the internet, I needed it only once, although it was relatively easy to connect, it was extremely slow, I used the data from my cell phone instead.

The Mantra esplanade was a great central location. Please just be aware currently (Nov 2020) there is road works right next to the hotel they were not loud but a bit of an eye sore and you need to walk around them to get to the other side of the road. The staff were lovely and extremely helpful nothing was a problem we booked a dinner cruise through our hotel which was super easy also at the hotel there is a tour company (Sorry have completely blanked on the name) right next door that you can entre through the hotel they had heaps of tour information and the men in their were very nice and helpful. We stayed in an apartment it was a bit older but it was clean and comfortable and had a balcony over looking the pool. One thing to note is that house keeping was not included room I think longer stays do get the room cleaned however you can get more toiletries, bath towels and beach towels at reception for free whenever you like. There is also not free wifi, you will need to pay to use the hotels. Pool was beautiful and clean however the spa was broken the entirety of the trip. Lots of restaurants, cafes and bars in walking distance.

Booking was rearranged from 1 bedroom apartment to a hotel room by staff at Mantra Esplanade to allow for apartment owner to stay even though I requested an apartment with walk in access to shower as my mother has very limited mobility and was assured the only 1 bedroom aptmt with walk in shower would be reserved for us.
Prior to booking, I called the hotel to ask if they had an apartment with walk in shower as my mother had limited mobility and cannot step into bath shower. I was told they did and to book online through my ACCOR membership, make a note in reservation requesting walk in bathroom then call hotel back which I did. The hotel reception (same person) told me she had allocated us the only 1 bedroom apartment that had walk in shower access and had made a note about this on their reservation system.
Two days before our stay was to commence the hotel called and said they had just seen my note requesting the above mentioned room however the owner would is still using the room so for the first 2 days of our stay we would have to stay in a hotel room, no walk in shower!! I explained that i had requested and was told we could have the only 1 bedroom apartment with walk in shower by the hotel. This was dismissed by the receptionist, I then had to again request for at least a hotel room with walk in shower!!!! Duh, were you even listening to me??? When i stated this mix up was the hotel's fault not mine i was offered a refund, this was not an option as I had already paid $1700+ for 6 nights and would not be able to find another affordable property due to increase in hotel prices at the time. I then had to request a refund for difference in pri e of motel room and apartment. Wasrefunded $30 so then had to again request the correct amount of diffetence for two nights and was eventually refunded the difference!
The hotel room was disgraceful, (room 407) very small with old scratched and dated furniture as well as scrape and scuff marks over walls and door.
Apartment (305) was nice however had to clean the kitchen bench, fridge and microwave when we got there as were dirty and had small bits of food scraps throughout.
Absolute disgrace and definately not worth the money.

When travelling with colleagues recently, staff at the hotel did all they could by upgrading our rooms but even an upgrade couldn't hide how tired this hotel is. While the bones might be good, the decor is in need of an update and the surfaces could all do with a face lift and with a new hotel being built across the road (which was a great part of my view) they will likely need to do something to enable them to compete. There are no restaurants in the hotel but don't be deterred by that as there are loads around. I grabbed takeaway breakfast from the cafe downstairs which was okay but I'm still waiting for my receipt to be emailed to me. The coffee was fine, the bacon and egg sandwich a little dry, but the cafe was looking a little like a store room with stuff everywhere and not really making sense (jewellery for sale in the front window). Overall, I felt that I would try somewhere different next time I'm in Cairns.

Dear wallylange, Thank you for taking the time to post a review after your stay at Mantra Esplanade in Cairns. We are currently working on upgrades within the hotel. We do recommend Vivaldi's which is on the 1st floor of the hotel, and there are many others within walking distance to Mantra. I believe the cafe you are referring to Yi's cafe, which is not owned by Mantra. Kind Regards Leah Sullivan Front Office Manager

Mantra Esplanade is in a great location - right on the esplanade and the free swimming lagoon. The beds are comfy and apartments roomy. Furnishings are basic in terms of furniture quality, but did the job. Two stars lost due to
1) limited free wifi at 2 hours a day. Not ideal for a rainy day in the hotel (esp if you were traveling with kids), or a night in wanting to stream a movie or when you need time to research next trip phase.
2) appreciate the need to demonstrate cleanliness with covid but everything in the kitchen was wrapped in plastic bags - knives, forks, every mug.....I hope Mantra can work on a more environmentally concious way to approach this.

Our week at the Mantra Esplanade Cairns couldn’t have been better! From the moment we checked-in at reception, we were met with friendly, jovial staff who, very clearly, were determined to help us have a pleasant stay. A few jokes were exchanged and laughs had, then we got to our room. On the way, all the housekeeping staff we passed in the corridors were equally friendly and welcoming. The room was very clean, comfortable and nicely appointed with all the basic cooking utensils available if you like to use the small kitchenette in the room. There is an on-site restaurant if you like, or a very short stroll, to a number of others in the area. Literally, the Marina (for Reef Trips) is only 300m across the park and a Woolworths Supermarket is a very easy, (approx.) 200m stroll to the road behind. Pretty much everything you could need is available within a short to moderate walk. We even used the Reception staff to book a couple of excellent tours.
Unfortunately, likely due to COVID, a number of businesses in the Cairns CBD have closed, but this has no bearing on the quality of the staff and amenities at the Mantra Esplanade. We left after a week and vowed to come back again as the pleasant staff and location is so close to perfect. There was nothing to dislike.

Yes you can as long as you get in touch by email or phone and explain the situation. Given it takes approximately nearly an hour from the time the plane is due to land and the time you get to the Hotel you should be OK. Just get in touch with them.
