The fragrance of frangipani floats on the light breeze - through soaring pavilions, into private courtyards and over the lillipad dotted lakes. Niramaya, literally, rejuvenation of the body through returning oneself to nature, is a boutique sanctuary of exclusive villas set amongst 15 hectares of gardens in Australia's tropical north. Have a workout in the gym, or unwind with a few laps in the 30m infinity edge pool. For something more relaxing, disappear in the pages of a book or indulge in a soothing massage or facial in the privacy of your own villa, Niramaya is luxurious and intensely private. A short stroll takes you to the coconut fringed sands of Four Mile Beach - and leads all the way to the chic village of Port Douglas where the regions famous cuisine, culture and character awaits.

Recently stayed in a three bedroom villa at Niramaya as a way to top off a previous 11 night stay at another luxury accomodation in the Port. Thinking Niramaya would be a luxurious retreat however fell short in reality. It is clear that these villas are becoming dated and in need of refurbishment. There is so much potential, but before “luxury” is restored, an audit of each villa and its flaws would be required. The price charged per night could then also be justified. The desk staff asking at checkout if there is any items in the villa they requires attention that they should be aware of is telling that there have been complaints. The CONS - see uploaded photo of the “entertainment area” and the cord solution provided under the tv. 3 star standard at best. - see example photo uploaded of silicone in main “luxury” bedroom. Wish I had taken more photos are there were so many examples - housekeeping wasn’t thorough, large piles of dust behind main bed which due to the light in the room coming through side doors, was very noticeable, and therefore I assume it would have been noticeable when cleaning. - when we checked in, there were still what I assume was toothpaste splashes on the taps of the vanity in the main bedroom. - the pool filter and noisy water feature ran 24/7 which during the night was very annoying as it is right outside the main bedroom - the garden lighting didn’t work and it was noted that a lot of lighting around the resort did not work - when opening the blanket found at the bottom of the made bed, in the second bedroom, it was clear it has not be laundered as there were stains on it - the lounge in the main area needs a steam clean also for stains as do the chairs around the dining table. - the kitchen cabinetry in front of the fridge is clunky and has suffered from being exposed to the elements from the nature of the space. The doors are better off being removed. The push open function is failing due to age - the shower in the second bathroom is overlooked by the louvred window of the two story accomodation next door. i.e. if the louvred window is open, they can see directly into the shower. - speakers out by the pool did not work. Yes - these items were reported to maintenance The PROS - quiet location - heated plunge pools - shower had good pressure - beds comfortable - spare blankets available - gates closed in the evening which gave good security - if villas were given the attention they require to bring them back up to the luxury standards they once held, this accomodation would be worth the amount being charged.

Property's Favourite Review
We had the absolute best time staying at the niramaya villas. We stayed for 1 week for our wedding and boy did we feel spoiled! We took advantage of every facility including the spa, pool, restaurant, tennis courts, gym, and food vouchers & everything was AMAZING. Staff were SO welcoming and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. They were all so friendly and helpful. The villas were equipped with everything that we needed and made us feel like we were on a holiday to Bali, but was even more luxurious!!! It was the perfect place for my bridal party to get ready & the pictures looked amazing -great lighting all around! I would absolutely recommend this accommodation for anyone visiting port Douglas. I was one very relaxed bride that’s for sure! We can’t thank you guys enough for spoiling us and making our wedding week so perfect. We will be back ❤️

this place should be 6-star. But it isnt. We stayed in a pool villa - the layout is fantastic. But the minus - no room service, no restaurants at night, no bars for a social drink, the restaurant that is open is poor food and way overpriced, service is poor - you have to keen chasing everything, there is no phone- you have to use your moblie to ring reception. There is no reception or service after 6pm - everything just closes, there is no laundry support whatsoever - you have to continue to wash your own towels etc everyday, there is nothing to explain how to use things in the villa, no transport around the resort, the beds are woefully uncomfortable, insufficient lighting in the villa and rooms, stuff all TV/entertainment, no dvd palyers for the kids, no milk etc for tea & coffee, apart from pool and tennis court no other facilities, you cant get into the spa, no staff etc For the $$ it charges it under delivered

Response from Niramaya VIllas and Spa, Guest Services / Front Office at Niramaya Villas and Spa
Responded 8 Aug 2022
Hi Garry, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We would like to reach out to you for further details of your stay. Would you be comfortable sharing the villa number you stayed in so that we can confirm it is managed by Niramaya Villas and Spa. At your earliest convenience we would appreciate it if you could reach out to fo@niramaya.com.au so we can gain more details of your stay and investigate this matter further. We are most interested to know if you presented yourself or any of these inconveniences to reception throughout your stay? We would like to assure you that all of these would have been addressed and resolved immediately should they have been presented to us. At check in, many of the concerns that you have mentioned above are covered in detail for you to ensure you have both a wonderful and fully informed stay. To address your mentioned concerns - There is no room for poor service at Niramaya Villas and Spa so we would firstly like to gain more information from you to address this immediately. Please be aware that our town, alike many others across Australia are suffering a rental crisis, making it extremally difficult to obtain the number of staff required to run extended hours of service. Our amazing housekeeping team would have been more than able to provide extra towels, linen and amenities should you have requested them. If you were uncomfortable with your sleeping arrangements, every effort would have been made to ensure you had a great night sleep (Which leads us to believe that you were not staying in a villa managed by Niramaya) All of our villas have smart TV's which have made DVD players redundant. We are aware that our fantastic day spa is very desirable and does book up fast. Pre arrival information is sent to all of our guests highlighting that pre bookings are strongly advised. We look forward to hearing from you with further details to help us improve our services wherever possible. Kind regards, Niramaya Management

Have just spent a week here in a 4 bedroom villa. The villa pool was heated and perfect for our extended family (5 adults and 2 small children). Breakfast each day was great and the service fantastic. Erin (in the restaurant) gave us some excellent advice regarding our road trip north to Cooktown. The staff in reception were also very helpful. Highly recommend this accommodation.

We stayed in the 4 bedroom villa. It was a nice setting but some furniture was missing and not really enough chairs for 8 people. The main upstairs bedroom and bathroom was amazing and the other three rooms were average. The place felt very tropical and the main pool was fantastic

Beautiful villas, in a great location. Plenty of room to fit a large family in. Having your own pool makes it that much better. Staff were all lovely and helpful. Would definitely recommend to visit, we can’t wait to return.

What a beautiful setting close to Port Douglas with access to all that wonderful city has to offer in far north Queensland. The villas are absolutely stunning with an extremely high attention to detail.

We stayed at Niramaya for 7 nights and had enough opportunity to try out everything. I give it 4 stars based on the steep price point, otherwise it’s a 5. Overall the resort and villa is beautiful and has a tropical feel like Bali. However it does not have the “luxury”or “expensive” feel I expected for the price point, in comparison to similar luxury resorts I have stayed in Hawaii. So don’t expect welcome cocktails or cold towels or 24 hour service or a human concierge. Other opportunities for improvement: We planned a BBQ night at our villa and shopped for groceries and all that, only to find out that it didn’t work. There’s no service after 4-5pm (emergency only) so they didn’t fix it until the next day at which point it was too late. They should check all appliances regularly after every guest. I understand labor costs are higher in Australia but a luxury resort should figure something out. The bedroom AC is too weak. It starts cooling the room only after the sun goes down at full power and also with the ceiling fan spinning at top speed and the bathroom door closed. Room temperature is OK after midnight only. Not acceptable at a luxury hotel. (northern Queensland is HOT) Freezer runs out of ice after about 20 ice cubes even with the express freeze option. They did a mid week cleaning but didn’t clean the dishes. The $50 daily credit is nice but off peak season restaurant closes by 3pm and there’s no dinner so every day you have to decide what you want by 3pm, for last order. The pool menu food is good but limited - mostly pizzas (yummy though) and a grazing board that does NOT have cheese. Go figure.

Everyone was so welcoming and would do anything to make our stay amazing. We took advantage of our amazing surroundings and planned to renew our wedding vows in the beautiful gardens. The rain had another idea, Craig was adamant that our day would not be ruined and set about finding an undercover location for our vow renewal ceremony. The day was perfect and it made our stay even more memorable. I highly recommend Niramaya and we are planning our return visit.
