Just spent 3 days at Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas. The good: amazing pools especially the newer one around the swim up bar; lots of lounges around pools: Aqua Zumba was fun; staff (check in/check out; bellboys friendly and efficient; restaurant staff (notably Emilio and Cassidy) are fantastic - very courteous, friendly and made us feel very welcome. Cassidy organised a dessert platter with candle at breakfast for my daughter who turned 11yo while we were there and the staff sang Happy Birthday to her - she loved it! Thank you! Also the egg station chef was awesome quick and efficient and makes the best omelettes; excellent buffet breakfast; rooms were well maintained and clean though bathrooms need to be updated. Not so good: the double beds and pillows in twin room are shocking! Very bouncy / soft mattresses - need updating and pillows were terrible. For the price we paid, the beds are no way 5 star resort standard - they’re clearly very old and past their use by date. We were in the large lagoon access rooms - waste of money for us as we used this feature once because we preferred to use the newer pool; the Mediterranean buffet dinner was very ordinary. Definitely not worth $200 for 4 ppl. Would’ve been better off at one of the restaurants in town for dinner. And don’t mind paying for quality. Overall had a good stay and would stay again but definitely not in the same room type.

First trip back to the mirage in 5 years and it didnt let me down. Great resort to relax and even when at capcity it never seems busy. The staff were great from checkin to the bar staff, resturant staff and cleaners. I was made to feel special with welcome emails from Madeleine and some treats in my room as it was my birthday. This special touch had been missing for a few years. The rooms are good size, clean and quiet and the pools made relaxing for a full day no problems. The only feedback I would give was during my stay I asked at the marriot desk about booking next year. I was told to ring in house reservations and that as a returning guest I would get a better rate than from the Marriott website. i did this when i got home but they gave me the same rate as the website. When i emailed Madeliene and followed up to check this I received no reply which was a little disappointing. Still didnt stop me from booking for next year though!!

After the long dreary cold Melbourne winter we decided to thaw out at this lovely resort. It is literally twice the size of the town of Port Douglas itself. We enjoyed the 5 days/4 nights we spent there. Our room was well appointed and faced the pools. We made use of the pools and bar as well as the country club, even though we don’t play golf. Four Mile Beach is just past the pools and easy to access during low tide. We had a rental car and there is free parking onsite near our room so we could easily drive into town, and it was about a 45 minute drive to reach Daintree River, for those who want to explore the world’s oldest rainforest. There are quite a few eateries on site which is handy. Unfortunately with almost anywhere in Port Douglas we had to prebook our dinners or find out there were limited options otherwise. It was very relaxing and worth the expense. Definitely would love to come back for another round in the future.

Probably the best hotel in North Queensland. Rooms have been refurbished and the hotel is impeccably maintained. The Harrison restaurant is one of the best in town. Book 6 weeks in advance if you want a table. The same as all main restaurants in Port Douglas. Avoid the Lagoon restaurant serving around the pool. Prices are 5 stars, but the food is awful. A few more deckchairs around the resort would help not to have to put a towel on a deckchair before 8am. The lagoons are the real differentiator here. Huge lagoons with beaches allow to swim in peace at all times. Unique in the area where the most beautiful beach -4 miles of wild empty beach- can have jelly fish in the summer, like everywhere else on the shores of Noth Queensland. Staff are friendly and can service rooms every day. Unusually nice in these times of short staff in hospitality. Great place. We have already booked our return this autumn...

I would like to make a shout out to Mike your Hotel Manager. Firstly he impressed us by going around to all the guests around the pool area on our first day asking how everyone is, then we saw him the morning after, checking on everyone at the buffet breakfast and so on. We thought that was so lovely and great hospitality, we stay at a lot of hotels and never do we see the manager unless someone is complaining. It was really lovely. Mike made us feel very warm and welcomed and he made a lovely deal for us too when he found out it was our honeymoon. We want to come back to port Douglas and the Sheraton will be our next stay. We loved it but what made it really stand out was Mike and all your staffs hospitality. Thank you Daniel & Georginna (Brisbane)

Arrived at the Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas and was at first impressed with the size of the place… the grounds are massive. It is bordered by a golf course to the west and south and 4 mile beach to the east, with the Port Douglas township a short 5minute drive to the north. Check in took about 15 minutes, 4 counters and only 2 staff… :-/ a few questions were asked of the staff in relation to available dining facilities (we arrived around 5pm). Staff, whilst friendly, were very “vague” on availability of dining options at the hotel. Citing everything is booked out, but go and enquire at the restaurants and find out. There are 2 main dining options, Harrison’s, an A La Carte restaurant of mixed menu & FEAST restaurant which offers a buffet “all you can eat” style setup… and apparently an Italian menu which is table service. Unless you’re pre-informed about the Italian menu at FEAST the staff won’t tell you, instead only offering the very overpriced and honestly “feral” (all you can eat) buffet. I say the FEAST buffet was “feral” as honestly it was. The food safety was very lax with children and some adults alike only too happy to use their own utensils & hands to take food and eat while choosing and then dip back in for more (like a double dip only worse)…. The food choices were few and the length of time between food being replaced was quite lengthy. The taste… it was as bland as it sounds. Here’s the real kicker… the bill… $50 per adult & $40 per child… family of 4 = $180!!!! That was “Strike 1” Chalking that one up to a lesson learned we decided to check out the pools the next day, if which there is many. The hotel is predominantly built around the many pools, the main pool has a swim up bar which opens each day at 12 noon until 5pm, this was a good novelty and used by many. The bar also provides light meals, (in typical hotel fashion) which are not good value for money (small bucket of chips is $12)… but “in a pinch” is ok to appease the kids. The rooms, all overlook the pools, which is nice to wake up to. Our room was neat, tidy and spacious. It lacked any cutlery except for 2 teaspoons (this should be fixed), it, in all honesty was a bit run down….the bathroom had clearly visible black mould present around the bath & shower walls (which is indicative of poor cleaning). The facilities within the bathroom work well but don’t be an early riser and expect a hot shower at 7am…. There’s NO hot water at all at 7am (it’s not an isolated incident either, I asked another guest during conversation). “STRIKE 2” I can say that there is plenty of parking available and it’s free. That’s a bonus, there are plenty of places to swim, and other bonus… but alas don’t expect to find anywhere to sit… all the swim up bungalows ($85 per day) are always reserved, and as we found out mostly reserved by ghosts as nobody was ever in them… (we later found out it’s because the hotel runs day packages for non guests and part of these $150-500 packages include use of a bungalow and waiter services while enjoying the pools). The poolside deck chairs are also impossible to get, many guests “reserve them” at stupid o’clock each morning with their towels and belongings even though there are signs everywhere stating they CANNOT be reserved. This is also not policies by staff or management…“Strike 3” While we enjoyed Port Douglas township immensely (highly recommended the place) and will definitely be back to holiday….would we stay here at Sheraton Mirage again… definitely NOT. For the price we paid, it definitely was not worth the money. Sad to say but this place reminded us of another bad hotel experience Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu.. the two are very similar… I give this place 3 stars out of 5. The staff are very well trained at “passing the buck” and directing guests to reception with reception direction guests to the pool bar or staff who then direct guests back to reception (see what I mean)…

Dear LCV200VX, Thank you for your thorough review of your time spent here at the Resort. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the pools and the view from your room. It is disappointing to hear that you were unhappy with the remainder of your stay. It sounds as though many aspects of your experience did not meet our typical standards of service, and for that we sincerely apologize. Your feedback has been raised with all of our department heads to investigate and rectify, particularly in regards to the the hot water issues you encountered. Please also note that the Resort does not offer day packages to external guests. Once a month we hold our Sunset Sessions, which is an early evening event with a live DJ that offers cabana usage and catering to certain package holders. All are welcome to purchase tickets for this event, but it is not a daily occurrence. We hope that we can welcome you back to the Resort in the future for the opportunity to turn your impressions around. Sincerely, The Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Port Douglas Team

I arrived here with no booking. I had booked and paid for my holiday with My Queensland Holidays. When I arrived I was told I didn’t have a booking. I was unable to get hold of anyone through My Queensland Holidays. I finally got to speak to a manager who found me a room. While I waited there was no offer of help from anyone and it took hours to get sorted. All the restaurants are booked out so you either have to eat in your room or go via a shuttle into Port Douglas. Housekeeping is bad, really bad. Towels not replaced daily, tv remote not working, dirty sheets left on bed… It seems like they just don’t have enough staff to do anything properly. Every day I have gone to get a drink, so you line up and when it’s finally my turn to order I am told to go to the beach hut. When I go to the beach hut I am told to go to the bar, seriously no one knows what they are doing here. The room service food is very ordinary and expensive for what you get. The Sheraton is starting to look a bit shabby and not worth the price. I wish I had stayed at Peppers much better than here in my experience.

I do not think that I have ever visited a hotel with worse service…. Ever!!! I have been here for half a day and already I’m about to blow a gasket. Lunch- we ordered food and a bottle of wine. 45 minutes later someone wanders up with 3 glasses of wine. We explained the mistake. 25 minutes later a warm bottle of wine arrives with no apology. Food took 1.5 hours. Then no seasoning. We asked for some salt and pepper - 15 minutes later, we received this. No apology. Dinner- I have been unwell whilst my partner met with some friends I just wanted to order some room service and chill out. Good luck finding a menu. Even better luck ordering. 50 minutes of no one picking up in room service, or hotel reception. In fact at one point I even pressed the emergency button! Nothing! Too bad if you have a medical emergency! I had to get re dressed and head to reception. Here I calmly explained my problem and when I remarked that this isn’t really what I expect from a hotel of this calibre, the man simply told me that this is where I was going wrong, it is a “resort” and not a hotel. Wow!!! Absolutely disgraceful. We are paying a small fortune to stay here and I see absolutely no benefit! I finally received my meal. Well, surprise surprise, it was rubbish. Cold food. A side of carrots. Apparently it is $13 to put raw carrots in a bowl. There doesn’t even appear to be an attempt to make them al dente . Just raw! I am appalled.

We spent 5 nights here and we have to say it really is a very nice place. The room was large, had a very comfortable bed, came with all the bathroom toiletries needed and a lovely view of the pool area from your own balcony. The whole place is surrounded by multiple pool areas so it was good to swim in your own pool area without it being crowded. The staff are very welcoming and friendly across the whole place. Whilst the breakfast was excellent with a large selection of foods to choose from, the same cannot be said for the nightly dinner selection. Very limited on the choice of meals to have with the same menu every night. And for what you get I have to say way overpriced!! The same goes with the in-room dining selection, very overpriced as well!! We ordered pizza one night and unfortunately it was not the best! Would love to give this place 5 stars but can only give it 4 at best. Somewhat overpriced for what you get.

Spent 5 nights at this resort. It's certainly not a 5 star experience. It's a bit dated and service problems likely due to understaffing abound. Housekeeping really falls flat. Difficult getting items needed brought to room and they entered room while we had do not disturb light on. Pool service super slow and understaffed (but the Mango Tango cocktail is the bomb). There's no "we are so happy you are here" vibe to help guests feel welcome. The rooms however are good size, bed was comfortable, and the grounds are generally well kept. Location is right at 4-mile beach although there is no view of the beach. Breakfast is fine, but options for dinner are very limited. My only time in Port Douglas so hard to know how it compares to other options in the area.
