Overall, it wasn’t bad - the location of the venue itself is good. The staff hours at the front-desk is limited, and after hours checkin took a while (the phone wasn’t answered promptly, ended up on hold for a long time before it got cut off and I had to start the whole thing again). When asking for a top up of supplies (towels, bathroom consumables, etc), we had to ask multiple times before they were dropped off. There was loud jazz music playing throughout the night - I thought it was initially the people in the room next door but it turns out it was actually a facilities room downstairs that had the music cranked?! Thankfully the receptionist fixed it when it was brought to their attention. Finally, the rooms themselves are very noisy - there are wooden slatted Venetian doors separating the bathroom from the main room and noise flows through there so easily that there’s no point for the door - even just the running shower tap is noisy! In addition, there is very little sound isolation between the rooms. I could easily hear when the family in the next room moved in, when they were having conversations and when they were doing the dishes (which was often). The location is definitely a highlight, as there are a number of restaurants, shops, cafes and sights all within walking distance. The service from the staff is friendly, when you can find them. For the price, it felt somewhat lacking.

Response from Brad Case, General Manager at Mantra in the Village Port Douglas
Responded 3 weeks ago
Dear Domlotters, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at Mantra in the Village, Port Douglas - it is both valued and appreciated. Apologies for the check in process, our after hours service is usually prompt and efficient, on this occasion it appears it was not. We have spoken to owners in relation to the slatted louvres in the bathroom and investigating possible solutions, thank you for the feedback. I am please to read that the location was excellent, right in the middle of Port Douglas, allowing you easy access to the restaurants and cafes, along with our friendly staff. On your next visit, booking a 1 Bedroom Spa Suite room, consisting of lounge, living area and small kitchenette may be an option. Sincerely, Mantra in the Village Team

On arrival our room was not ready. The bathroom was so badly stained and still had hair in the plug hole. The door to the bathroom was broken and the louvres covered in dust. The tv had cords hanging out every where. No coffee. Filth under the bed. Broken umbrella in pool area, glass left on balcony for two weeks. Water feature in pool area not working, noisy fan. Definitely not a lux hotel room as advertised. Wanted to contact Accor directly but have found that very difficult.

Air conditioner was poorly maintained and noisy to the point that we had to turn it off at night. I actually cleaned the AC filters myself to get the unit running properly. They were filthy. Then there was the added bonus of the fridge compressor waking us up. Also, the scum around the the pool waterline was not very appealing. The pool itself is pretty poor. Steps and ledges everywhere. Can't really swim in it at all. And if you're laying in the pool chair you have the roar of the exhaust fan to deal with. Not very relaxing. A lot of lip service given to hygene standards but no real action from what we witnessed. Considering they are hitting us full freight ($284.00) a night for this room is a joke and we won't be considering Mantra again any time soon.

We have stayed at Mantra in the Village twice now. This time we choose the larger room. It was clean but needs a paint, the yellow paint is very outdated. The lift was also out of order during our stay. The pool needs a big revamp and a thorough clean. Tiles falling off , paint chipping and the outdoor setting weathered.

Clean and spacious room. Very comfortable bed. Location was perfect - right in centre of Town within walking distance to everything. Very good restaurants in the same Street of the Hotel entrance. Also free parking was available below the Hotel and was easily accessable.

We had a great week staying here - our group was an extended family staying in three separate units - ours was a 2 bedroom unit, for us and our 2 teenage kids. the rooms all seem to have cooking facilities: ours had a gas cooktop, a benchtop grill and a mic (no oven), also a dining table/chairs and a couple of comfy couches and a good-size tele. Unlike the others, ours had a euro laundry: washing mach.and dryer and trough. They provided sachets of detergent for these and the dishwasher. Apparently Flight Centre doesnt talk to them because the staff had to come and convert the (king-size?) bed in the second room into 2 singles (also for another group in our party) - next time I'd call the hotel directly beforehand to confirm this so that housekeeping can look after it rather than the reception staff, although they were quick to get onto it and it was certainly not a bother for them. Towels for the pool are provided (noticed people using hotel towels on our trip to the reef too) in addition to bath towels, if you're short of space in your case. Georgia on reception was lovely and helpful. The location is right in the centre of the shopping and cafe centre of things - it's the best part about the place. It could be a bit noisy for light-sleepers but my husband bought ear plugs and was fine with that. We saw great birds (for a Melburnian!) in the tree outside our balcony. We hired a car for a drive up to the Daintree on one day but apart from that we had no need for a car. There's a bike hire place over the road. I read reviews of this place before we arrived, about the outdated fitout, but I was surprised that for the style/era of the decor that it was in really good nick. It's not purporting to be a 5-star place and for the location and comfy clean space for us to stay at a good rate it's great value and I recommend it. If I could make a suggestion for the Hotel or even the local council, how about planting a couple more trees and extending the street landscaping down towards the empty block next door?

Reception staff were very friendly and accommodating! This Mantra is a non-serviced accommodation. The room we booked was for 2 adults and 2 teens. (2 rooms 1 bathroom). It had a kitchen with gas stove top, slender fridge, pantry cupbourd and most utensils needed to cook your own meals. (no oven but bench top griller). Handy if you don't want to blow your budget eating out every night. … It also had a washing machine and trough. There are ceiling fans and AC that do a good job heating/cooling. The ceiling fan is good at drying out wet clothes! There is an op-shop nearby and you can find DVDs, extra cups or nick nacks if needed too. Mantra in the Village is also a 3 min walk to the 'K Hub' with a Coles, bottle-o and mini K-mart which came in very handy as all the restaurants were booked out the week we stayed. (hard to reserve a group of eight I suspect). Despite most of the restaurants beeing booked out some still offered take-out services. There is a crazy Grecian style pool with bbq facilities in the hotel. Overall it was a very convenient location and I would book my accommodation there again. The only drawback would be that is is a little noisy (if you're a light sleeper like me). I had ear plugs so that solved my issue. : ) Great experience overall : )

Booked two adjoining rooms with a roll out. Provided two separate rooms and only provided the roll out after we demanded it. The breakfast is pretty rubbish as well. I wouldn't stay here again for the cost of the stay and how old the hotel looks..
