We have holidayed in a Coral Sea King room at the Reefview Hotel several times now, the last time being less than 2 years ago. We chose this room because we know how good it’s been in the past. Our room last time had been newly renovated. Upon arrival being later in the day we decided to just stay in the room and order in pizza and just have the evening in front of the TV. The sofa lounge was very uncomfortable and quite hard to get up and down from because of its slope towards the back rest of the seating, we struggled to get easily up and down off it. Then it was time for bed. The bed was also terrible very, very uncomfortable and in fact we both woke up with backaches and sore ribs and endured these backaches for 3 days before speaking with reception. We asked could we be moved to another room but they said there were none of our room type available and they’d get housekeeping to put a topper on the bed. This did make the bed a bit more bearable even though we decided from then on to sleep on top of the bed giving us even a bit more padding with the doona. As for the lounge we gave up on that and brought in the 2 wooden balcony chairs to sit on when we wanted to watch TV. That being said, it was not at all a bad holiday and we had a great time as usual. The buffet breakfast is great by the pool but if I had 1 request being a Coeliac (requiring gluten free) it would be so much better for me to make educated food choices if the kitchen would just pop a little GF notation next to the item. I had to keep asking someone if I could eat something. The resort staff, be it wait staff, concierge, reception, housekeeping etc all very friendly and helpful. Most were very new on the job but did a great job. We dined in several locations throughout the resorts and at the marina. Loved the food at the Marina Tavern it was our pick. They also have an ice cream shop near the Green bus stop that sell GF Mango Frozen Yoghurt which is to die for, we made a trip down to the marina daily just for one of those. They also now have a new IGA on the island which you can get lots of supplies they have a great range at relatively good prices and they even sell hot roast chickens and there’s a bottle shop next door. We will most definitely come back again at some point but just hope they are considering refurbishing the entire Reefview Hotel as it’s now becoming dated and tired looking. They’ve recently done up the Reef Lounge and lobby which looks great. The facilities on the island are very good, so many pools to choose from, dining options, free transport and lots of ammenities too which is a plus. We stayed in room 1417 this trip.

Hotel's Favourite
Nice accomodation, view out to water. Daily service of room, bed comfortable. Hamilton island plenty of things to do, we loved catamarans, paddle boards. We took the complimentary bus around the island each day. Loved seeing Carlos, very friendly bus driver. Carlos sung sounds 7 had to guess the song, talked to you about things to do on the island.

eception. Staff friendly and professional. The room was not ready on arrival (we were 2 hours early) but received a call about half an hour later that the room was ready and our bags had been taken up. Room: Superior king with unobstructed bay view. Bed was just Ok. Furnishings very basic and very bland. A couch whilst clean which had seen better days. A coffee table and a stand for TV with some storage underneath. We had 5 hangers for 2 people staying 7 nights. A request to housekeeping was all it took to get more hangers. There were no draws for underwear and the like in the room a shelve was too high to be of any use. Most of the wardrobe space was in the bathroom /toilet. ( not ideal due to humidity but manageable) very limited space was in a very small wardrobe in the hallway. Verandah, There are lots of birds leaving their calling cards, verandah furniture was not cleaned during our stay. We ended up cleaning it our-self and sitting on towels. Meals: Breakfast: Good section typical resort style buffet, staff friendly and professional : Lunch: Light meals only Dinner: Not open. Which is unusual considering the number of guests . Room service was available.

Firstly, I must say the staff are excellent and the lobby area is lovely and modern. That is where it ends though. The hotel is a 1980’s time warp and the rooms are incredibly basic. Our bathroom did not feel at all clean and I showered with my eyes closed so as not to see anything unsavoury. The design of the hotel means we were awakened every morning when the first children were awake and passing by our bedroom door. The design of the hotel creates a noisy amphitheatre. The balcony was covered in bird poop. We were also woken by the noisy lifts. If I had to give it a rating, I would be generous by saying it’s a three star. If you just use it as a base to sleep and don’t care about luxury, you will be fine. It’s a blot on the landscape and it’s time to pull it down and replace with something more in keeping with the stunning surrounds.

Staff were as helpful as they could be, a bit overworked but very friendly. Rooms are nice and cosy, excellent views. Could use a refresh but i could hear renovations in lower floors, they appear to be working their way up. The pool is easy to access sunrise to sunset only, has poolside service till 4pm. The near by hotels share the pools with each other too. The king bed is comfortable. There is a good amount of birdlife around the hotel. Listen to the recommendation to keep hotel doors closed when not there or birds will visit into your room.
