My wife and I have been coming to Hayman Island every year for 30 plus years to celebrate her birthday. The past 2 years we have brought our son,his wife and 3 grandkids. This place is absolutely awesome from the gardens to the beach to the restaurants to the accommodation.Since IHG have taken management it's the best it has been, thanks to their G.M. Arpad Romandy (whom we had the pleasure of meeting on our last 2 visits - great guy) and his professional staff.( special thank you to his P.A Emma, and F.B. guys Adam and Liam, both awesome) but all the staff were on top of their game, extremely friendly, professional and great with the grandkids especially with beach activities. So for the life of me I can't understand other peoples negative reviews regarding staff. We are already booked for 2 more visits 2022. We'll never stop going to Hayman unless she sinks into the beautiful blue sea.

Hotel's Favourite
I have travelled around Australia professionally for 25 years staying in everything from tents to 6 star. I promised my wife Marilyn I’d take her somewhere special and I chose Hayman Intercontinental resort. We paid full price as I didn’t want to work taking pics or filming TV shows like I normally do. The resort and facilities are brilliant, with stunning architecture and views at every turn. The location? It is the closest island to the outer reef and even the Bush walks to Blue Pearl Bay reveal great coral , fish and snorkeling. Of course the activities team can take you on reef, beach and many other adventures to suit your needs. It ticks all the boxes but most of all it’s the staff that seal the deal - friendly, and professional…and grinning all the time because of the location and resort 😍 When it’s time for a special occasion or you really want to spoil yourself don’t hesitate to visiting Hayman … it’s now better than ever 💯/💯 Rob Paxevanos Host Fishing Australia - our countries longest running fishing and travel series.

If you want a luxury experience do no go here!! The grounds, rooms and pools are amazing. However the service is terrible. I would go as far as saying they almost ruined my 40th birthday. The main problem I had was they had designed a degustation menu for my birthday evening weeks before we arrived, knowing that we really wanted a special experience. The day before my birthday I followed up with the front desk to confirm the menu and just make sure everything would run smoothly as I’d begun to loose faith based on the service we had been receiving. They said they would follow it up. 24hrs passed I heard nothing and so again spoke to the front desk. I received a call later that afternoon to assure me that they had our special menu and that all was good for that evening. A few hours later, another call to assure the same thing. We arrived at the Amici tea house which was set up beautifully to be red out a completely different menu. I then spent the next half an hour trolling through emails, expressing my disappointment after several confirmations and just being plain annoyed on my birthday. They did rectify the situation and menu and we had a lovely evening but can’t help but assume there is a major communication issue on the island. Our other issues were, but not limited too long wait times at the pool, missing drinks, having to follow up missing drinks, missing meals, my friends was bitten by a possum and the staff did not offer assistance, very raw burger at the pool, charcoal burnt steak one evening when we asked for medium, had to ring to ask for the minibar to be restocked and I could go on and on. We still had a great time because we made the most of it however I will not go back. Our spirits went from an all time high on day 1 to actually wanting to leave on day 5. I have never reviewed anything on here before however when you take the time to fill in the feedback section on the hotel iPad and they don’t take the time to call you to discuss as they have with others. Then there is a major problem. Wouldn’t you want to fix these things?!!!!

We're 5 nights into a 7 night stay and as I sit looking at the gorgeous pool from our swim-up room I thought I'd take some time to write a review - looking at the good, the bad, and the okay... The Good: - Our swim up room is just gorgeous...these are definitely the best rooms in the hotel. Our room has heaps of space as it's more like a suite than a room and has two balconies providing access to the pool - The island itself is sensational with a very healthy ecosystem. We've seen rays, turtles, sharks, countless fish, and lots of healthy looking coral since we've been here - The massages at the spa are incredible. My husband and I had a 90 minutes couples massage and it was brilliant. We'd love another but sadly they're booked out for the rest of our stay - The yoga classes are great. We only did the 'island stretch and meditation' class with Ash but felt like we were walking on clouds afterwards, highly recommend doing this - The gym is great. Well-stocked, everything is in great condition and there's hardly anyone in there - The pedal board tour is fantastic. We went with Cody and his passion for the wildlife and the island just shone through, would highly recommend this one - Lots of activities to choose from - you'll never get bored (unless it's raining - see the 'Bad' below) - The F&B manager is lovely. We've met her twice - once in Bam Bam and once in Pacific - and she really takes the time to chat to the guests and make sure they're having a good time - Food safety seems pretty top notch. My husband and I run an international company in this space so it's something we always look out for but no complaints whatsoever The Bad: - Rainy days. Yes, we're in the rainy season right now but you'd think that the activities team would pivot and organise some indoor activities to stop all the guests getting bored and frustrated on days when it rains non-stop. Given the fees charged by this hotel, it's fair to assume that customers are paying for the experience and not just the room. Here are some ideas that would be quick and easy to do - show a movie in a conference room, organise a trivia session, hold cocktail making classes, wine and cheese tasting, aqua aerobics in the rain, additional yoga classes, ask the piano player to do an afternoon shift and open the bar for a singalong...the list is endless. - The lack of dining options. We were told as we were checking in that on some evenings one of the three restaurants may be closed. In fact, it's more like only one of the three restaurants is open. Combine that with having to book in advance and you end up with some very odd dining times. - The lack of training. It's pretty obvious that some of the staff here are backpackers and haven't had the correct training to work in a bar/restaurant - let alone a 5-star resort. It gets exhausting trying to get someone to attend to your table after a while - The attitude of some of the employees. I'll preface this by saying that most of the team are truly lovely and really trying hard to do a good job, but others simply don't care. We had one evening when we went to a bar to get cocktails before dinner. The barman turned up 15 minutes late, took our orders, then proceeded to serve 5 other couples before making our drinks...I don't get how this is okay when it's the only bar open at the time - The hotel's response to feedback. We outlined some of our concerns on the feedback form provided on the iPad in the room. The Duty Manager called to discuss these and told us we'd be 'well looked after' that night in the Bam Bam restaurant. Nothing special happened that evening in the restaurant but we were overcharged for drinks... - Which leads me to - twice now, we've been charged for drinks we didn't order or receive.I wish we'd kept a closer eye on the bills from the beginning but it's definitely something to watch out for! - The GM is nowhere to be seen. At most 5-star resorts that we've stayed at around the world, we've met the GM within the first few days of our stay and you can see that he/she is keeping a close eye on how things are being operated - We got sent a waiver sent by email to sign before an activity but the link didn't work - just a little thing but why send something out that hasn't been tested properly? - The shop is a bit rubbish. It's hardly ever open and has limited stock (there's only one type/flavour of ice cream for example, plus no books, magazines or newspapers) - And lastly, there's not much privacy in the bathrooms. Not sure how this could be fixed as the design is already in place, but it's worth noting. The Okay: - The food has been a hit and miss. The pizzas at Amici are sensational, the red duck curry at Bam Bam is fabulous, the breakfast buffet is one of the best I've ever seen....but everything else has been just 'okay'... - The snorkelling trip. It was really beautiful to see the surrounding islands and the wildlife but there wasn't the same passion and energy as we experienced with Cody on the pedal board trip - it was nice to get off the island and have a look around nearby though, and jumping in with the batfish and the maori wrasse was pretty special All things considered, this is probably the best resort we've stayed in in Australia (we even prefer it to Qualia on nearby Hamilton Island) - and while there are Covid restrictions in place preventing international travel, it's a great option. But some of the little touches you get in 5-star resorts in places like Bali, the Bahamas and Mexico are just missing here. Would we come back? Yes - but only if international travel isn't an option...

An amazing resort with the best activities programs, restaurants and pool and beach areas for a relaxing enjoyable holiday. Not usually one to speak negatively however we arrived at 3:20pm to be told a wait of 20min for room to be ready. Waited till 4:30pm then called reception she said she couldn’t get through to the reception desk so at 5pm we walked to reception where they looked embarrassed as they forgot us. My husband was wearing jeans and sweltered on the 30’ heat out by the pool waiting. Disappointed in room, I work at a 5star hotel so was expecting what I booked, a room with the beach/pool view. We got a garden retreat which was always wet and dark no views at all. The room was small and the bed extremely hard. Otherwise everything was amazing!
