My husband and I held our small 28 person wedding here in January. We booked the whole hotel exclusively so majority of our guests could stay the whole weekend. We were all blown away by the exceptional service we received, not only on our wedding day, but for the whole weekend. The level of service here is so hard to find. Everyone was constantly greeted by name by the very friendly staff and asked if they wanted barista-made coffee or refreshments. They had a turndown service including sleepy tea, daily treats and an all day pastry table. The whole hotel was beautiful and very clean/maintained. Everyone commented on how comfy the beds were! Marc (the manager) is extremely professional and hardworking. He helped us organise our wedding from interstate with multiple video calls and emails. Nothing was ever too much trouble and he always put our mind at ease. He ensured our wedding day ran smoothly, even with last minute changes and wet weather. We also had multiple video calls with the head chef Tony who was very accomodating with the menu and any dietary requirements. The food was fantastic and there was plenty of it! We couldn’t recommend the Islington hotel enough if you want an intimate wedding where everyone feels special!…
Disappointing at over $700 per night. This hotel has wonderful reviews and although the Manager and some staff were very welcoming there were a number of very disappointing aspects which would preclude my recommending a stay here. I booked through a third party but did also call the hotel before booking to check the room. Do not book room 1. They advised it was of a similar standard and size to all their top rooms and also came with a private courtyard. They didn't mention that this opened to the back door to the restaurant kitchen area whose door was also often left open. The windows also opened to this area with the walking path the other side so it really wasn't quiet or private to have them open. There was no other natural light or air in the room. We booked dinner on one night which was a mix up from start to finish. The meal I chose was not as described on the menu and it eventuated that the wrong menu had been printed and there hadn't been a discussion with the chef before presenting (I did question when it arrived and was advised it was correct). We sought to order a bottle of Tasmanian wine but the only one of our choice had already been opened (the waitress didn't know how long earlier) so we chose another wine which was on the menu by the glass and asked for a bottle but was told that wasn't possible. (We did then ordered it by the glass) I should add there was a reduction on our dinner bill in recognition of these issues. We were the only people having dinner there so service should have been better (and I would have expected the chef to come and speak to us personally about the menu mix-up). The main disappointment was the room and I felt it should have been explained that the room had no outlook at all and opened to the restaurant kitchen area where the door was open when that was in use (ie breakfast/mornings and early evenings). It's also quite a walk to the main city and docks area. We could have stayed a lot closer to the docks and had a view of the water at a more reasonable cost. On a positive note the hotel was happy for us to leave our bags on our last day and come back to use the sitting area before an evening flight.…
The Islington is a luxury hotel with the friendliness of a B&B, which is just a lovely combination! A warm welcome, excellent food, comfortable room and beautiful views, all just a 20 minute walk (or 7 minute scooter ride) from Salamanca Place. We loved every minute.
Staying at a luxury five star boutique hotel should surely come with normal high standards. Our room was not serviced at all the first day and on reminding them to service room on second day at 9.30 am we arrived at 1.15 pm to find the room had not been serviced again. Definitely not what one expects from a five star hotel. Very disappointing. At $700 a night there is something wrong with the management of the hotel .
Fabulous peaceful spacious property with friendly helpful staff. Quiet and extremely comfortable with easy parking. You could easily forget you are actually in one of Australia’s capital cities. An absolute Gem
Gorgeous property incl gardens in the quiet heart of Hobart. Shout out to Marc, Sandy, Jess and the lovely head chef who all helped make this a memorable holiday. Nothing was too much trouble and little add-ons like home-made afternoon tea, all day barista coffee and sleepy tea each night just made this stay even better. Will stay there again & again.
My husband and I had a wonderful stay. The hotel is very beautiful with a magnificent view of Mt Wellington from the lovely grounds and the restaurant . The staff were very efficient and friendly without being intrusive . The food was delicious , which included breakfast or dinner in the restaurant . The rooms are modern with beautiful view of the gardens but totally private. We loved our time at Islington Hotel .
Mark, the new manager, was a breath of fresh air. Totally professional and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Our every request was catered for. His new staff were very keen to help and extremely polite. The location is excellent and handy to all Hobart has to offer. The gardens were beautiful and extremely well maintained.
We recently had 5 nights stay in one of the Garden Rooms at the Islington hotel and we can honestly say it was the best hotel we have ever stayed at! Absolutely nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, who all went above and beyond to make sure we were looked after. Due to our flight being delayed we arrived late, however Jacob was friendly and welcoming and still gave us the hotel tour when we arrived. The breakfasts were a highlight, the food was delicious and we never felt rushed at any stage. Sandy and Jess always remembered our names and provided a personalised level of service throughout our stay. We had dinner at the hotel one night and again the food was excellent. There were lovely little touches around the hotel, such as marshmallows next to the open fire for toasting, fresh cookies available everyday, dessert plates left in the rooms each day and the nightly turn down service with a relaxing tea and chocolates. The hotel itself is a stunning building filled with amazing art works and beautiful gardens. We would highly recommend this hotel, particularly for a special occasion and we hope to be back in the future. …
