2021 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
Australia's first dedicated art hotel stands proudly on Hobart's glorious waterfront. A handsome row of historic warehouses dating from the 1820s (the former IXL jam factory) have been creatively transformed into an enthralling multi-award winning first class hotel. The hotel itself is a work of art. Here you'll be fascinated by the unexpected combination of the antique and the ultra modern.

If you like staying in an old building with a bit of history, then this is the place for you. A great choice for those who want to ditch the car as it's conveniently located and within walking distance of most things around the city centre. It's also very close to the Queens Domain Parkrun, which is on Saturdays at 9 am.

My wife and I stayed in this hotel in September. We had a nice room with a good outlook onto the harbour. The room was well maintained and had plenty of space. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are staying in Hobart.

We are staying here at this moment and from the moment we walked in, the staff greeted us warmly even though we were early and were happy to let us in our room. It's a gorgeous place, so well preserved and impressive to walk into. We have a King Studio which is large and well appointed. Our bathroom is beautiful, our king bed is very comfy, there is a wonderful selection from the mini bar, tea, coffee pods. Different artworks adorn the walls in our room as well as the hallways....all available for purchase. The bar downstairs is great, the Landscape restaurant is divine. There is valet parking also, just ask the lovely staff at reception. Can highly recommend as this is very central accommodation.

My husband and I treated ourselves to a 3 night stay at this quality hotel. The reception was, valet parking and in an amazing location. Our room was huge, bed comfortable with beautiful linen and it was very quiet. The bathroom was big and modern. The art work on the walls made walking the hallways very interesting - we were lucky enough to be able to chat with the people changing the pieces and get a wonderful insight into some of the art. Our room had a kitchen with kettle, coffee machine with cups and glassware and a fridge but weirdly it didn't have any other crockery, cutlery or cooking utensils so you couldn't actually make any food. The other thing I didn't like was that you had to unpack your car from the footpath out the front with people enjoying a beverage watching on. The IXL Long Bar, located at the entrance of the hotel, was a brilliant place to meet friends for a pre dinner drink/nibbles with live music.

We stayed 3 nights in July 2021. We arrived in the evening and was greeted with friendly smiles by the staff at the front desk. Check-in was smooth and fast. Our room was very spacious, clean and comfortable and on the highest floor (2nd floor) as requested. Hotel was beautiful with the historic warehouse rafters and brick walls. Noise was not an issue even during rainy nights. The bathroom has to have a mention in this review as not only was it clean, modern and spacious, it also sports two rain showers! Our stay included breakfast and it was located in the lobby lounge area. Again, the staff were friendly and attentive. Breakfast was an a la carte-style with selections for gluten-free, vegetarian, continental or hot english breakfast. Food and portion sizes were great. There were parking available along Victoria Dock on Hunter Street and Franklin Wharf however during our stay the hotel provided valet parking for in-house guests which was convenient and stress-free. Just drop the keys off at front desk or ask for the keys at front desk when you're ready to leave. The hotel also houses a couple of restaurants, a bar and an art museum which unfortunately we did not have enough time to try. The hotel also has an in-house gym, again could not comment as we did not visit the gym during our stay which was a shame as it all looked quite interesting. Overall, it was a memorable and comfortable stay during our visit to Hobart and it provided a very comfortable base for exploring Hobart and surrounds. Definitely recommend.
