In the heart of Melbourne's CBD, Flinders backpackers is a big hostel, and although it can be apprehensive at first, the people who stay are welcoming and friendly. whether you want to stay for a couple of days, or whether you are looking more for long term stays, this is a great hostel. The rooms, toilets, and living areas are...

My first ever stay in a Hostel was with Flinders Backpackers and I must say it was seamless from day one. I recall this lovely Irish Emer was there to welcome me at reception on my very first night and she went above and beyond her call of duty in helping me with my long term stay booking and always...

I enjoyed how social the fellow backpackers were and how over all laid back the hostel was. The free food nights and the awesome movie selection were probably the highlights, but also the location. The employees were really helpful and made my time a good one. Special thanks to Emer, Shane and Allyson. Over all chill.

The hostel itself is not too bad. The rooms are basic but overpriced for what you get. They have a great kitchen area and lively common space, but there's very little chance of getting any sleep here due to the noise. Unfortunately the location (although central) is on a rather undesirable part of Elizabeth St. I was unable to walk...

A basic stay in Melbourne. Very expensive over the F1 weekend in Melbourne so we went with this cheap option in town. Sadly checking in was met by rude staff. Check out is at 10 and they wouldn't check us in at 9.58 saying that check out hadn't finished. We explained we were going straight out to the GP all...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
