The hostel is centrally located: 5 minutes walk to southern cross station and supermarket, and right in front of it there is a tram stop which a free city circle tram stops by regularly. If you want to use public transport to explore the city and its suburbs make sure you check out the reception to see if they have...

This hostel has a great location, right in the central business district which is where most of the tourist sights are. It is a few blocks from the train station where the Red Bus drops you off from the airport. The rooms and bathroom and clean and the customer service is great.

Stayed in Melbourne Central YHA for 3 nights. It was easy to locate, only 5-10 minutes walk from Southern Cross Station. Therefore its in a handy location from trams, trains & buses. Opted for a 4-bed female dorm room as I was mostly out during my time in Melbourne. Room was a bit tiny but I found a compartment under...

Thank you for your review and we’re glad to hear you enjoyed our hostel. Just to let you know, we’re very excited to announce our renovations are complete! The ground floor now has a great new self catering kitchen, TV room, seating area, bar/cafe and reception. Best of all the area reflects Melbourne’s urban cool style with exposed brick walls,...

Last weekend my grand daughter and I spent three nights here. We had a double room on the roof and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Yes you could here the traffic noise at night but it didn't bother us. It was very clean, close to food, restaurants, transport and many city attractions. A good place to stay at a reasonable price.

This trip was with a bunch of school aged kids as a supervisor and parent. I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the place was. Very friendly, safe, communal and practical. Even though it was common showers it was very clean. So was the kitchen. We enjoyed preparing dinner as a group.

This is a nice hostel, though not as central as it would appear. About a 10-20min walk into town. Some of the staff were ok, others were not. However the room was clean, which is all I ask for really. The kitchen was well stocked and maintained.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
