I constantly visit Melbourne for concerts that are on in the city. Mercure Welcome has a great central location for business in the CBD and exceptional prices. Staff are friendly and very helpful and accommodating. Rooms are a little on the small-side, but perfectly adequate for someone like myself. I always stay there when i visit Melbourne city.

Having satyed at Accor and mercure hotels for several years, I found the Mercure Welcome in Melbourne very disappointing and not up to Mercure standard. the reception staff were very good - apart from that the hotel was dirty and run down, and did not appear to be maintained. Every door, handle and surface, cupboards, lifts had dirty hand prints,...

Stayed here on a work trip. On the positive side the service was great, location great, and rooms well cleaned. However, the room was small and marks on the wall and cracked basin suggested a bit of a makeover is required. Ideal for those on holiday not wanting to spend too much time in their room. Business travellers would suit...

We booked a room for one night, basically to escape the heat wave. Online, we found a room at this hotel for $129. I arrived before my gf (we both work in the city) and checked in. Upon entering the room (and checking out the bathroom) I simply turned around and walked back out. It was tiny, dingy (the bath...

Chose the hotel because it was close to the theatre where we had booked tickets (had also stayed there 4 years before). When entering the room my husband noticed that the ceiling was full of dust / dirt from the air conditioner. The basin in the bathroom was that old that a multitude of cracks were showing through the ceramic...

We only stayed in this hotel as we needed a place to stay for 1 night and it was in the middle of the Grand Prix, we were not disappointed with the Mercure welcome at all. The location was excellent on Little Bourke Street close to Swanston St, so in walking distance to everything but very quiet compared to others...

Friendliest staff, made you feel welcome. Nothing was a bother to them, most accommodating.. Rooms a little cramped but was ok, only slept there not partied in them. Only complaint would be the dining room for dinner, extremely overpriced for the area it is in and limited menu choices.

Within 2 minutes walk of the Bourke Street Mall, and fronting on the Swanston Walk. Easy access to trams. The rooms are small and basic, but clean and comfortable. The room's ariconditioning was most welcome during the 35C [100F] days during my stay. No 'safe' in the rooms, and no 'free' WiFi, but safety deposit boxes are available downstairs at...

I stayed here with a friend for a week at the beginning of February and upon arrival, i found the staff to be friendly and helpful and the check in process was quick and simple. Ok, so the rooms were quite small (You get what you pay for after all!), but it had beds, storage space and a bathroom, which...

Have stayed at this hotel many times over the years as it is well situated in the heart of Melbourne-close to theatres, shopping, visitor attractions and public transport. Hotel is very good value, being one of the more reasonably priced places on offer. Rooms are on the small side so we usually spend a few extra dollars on an executive...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
