Great Location and value for money. Give room to check in early which was very welcome, but when we opened the door, the room was still occupied! Promised bottle of wine to overcome our shock didn't eventuate.

I think the power points were a problem, not in very good locations. The staff were all most helpful, informative and courteous. We had a slight problem which was attended as soon as possible and another room made available to us. My friend and I travel from Perth to see the Flower Show and have done so for 3 years...

Have stayed in nicer hotels in Melbourne eg the Hilton, Quest Docklands, and Alto Hotel on Bourke. However, the location of the Mercure Welcome is the most convenient of all the hotels I have stayed in. Right in the centre of town - amongst shops and restaurants galore, and right across the road from Chinatown. Unfortunately the rooms are small...

I have always stayed here when I come to Melbourne because of the fantastic location to the Mall, Chinatown. This time we came to see Jersey Boys so we were only a 10 min walk to the theatre. This stay would have been my 5th time and the room we were allocated had an upgraded bathroom so I was so pleased...

The staff were excellent and very helpful. The room itself was looking a little tired but was reasonable for its price. The restaurant and bar was very good with quality of the breakfast excellent. Location being in the center of Melbourne made it easy to get around.

Great location, very noisy from other rooms and bathrooms. Water running through the pipes makes a lot of noise.Bathrooms are very poor standard. No room service at all for food. Staff are very friendly and restaurant buffet breakfast was excellent.

Our recent two night stay at the Mercure Welcome Hotel in Melbourne was a very pleasant experience from the desk staff when booking in to the young man on the consiege desk who was very helpful with both directions to the flower show and information about public transport making it very easy to find our way. We had a great night sleep in the heart of Melbourne - for just $110. The Mercure is a basic hotel but is surprisingly well equipped. Our room was small but came with an iron and ironing board, tea and coffee - and biscuits! The air-conditioning was pretty noisy but this probably drowned out any external noises so we didn't...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
