Booking with Mercure because of their reputation, we were disappointed with the room; although the two single beds were comfortable, and the pillows were good, the room was small by most standards. If you suffer from claustrophobia than I'd suggest a bigger room or a different hotel. We were on a business trip for 3 days, and really only needed... More

$50 taxi trip-it was late on a Sunday-from the airport. On a high floor,as requested,in a comfortable room. You don't get big rooms in affordable City hotels.Clean and the air con drowned out any noise from the neighbours. Staff v,v helpful-even late at night-and excellent at helping to navigate the trams. Made the mistake of booking too early.so missed out on... More

I stayed in a standard room by myself. The rooms were small, but have everything you need. Great little place to stay if you don't intend to spend a lot of time in your room other than to sleep. The rooms close to the elevator are very noisy, you can hear the elevator all night long, so make sure you... More

Have stayed previously in a standard room and found it to be clostrophobic, will only stay if able to book the king superior. Vending maching outside room was pretty 'doddgy' does this comply with fire escape rules? Was dissapointed that the conserge did not have our cirque de soleique tickets pre-printed and waiting, left us racing to the performance. Both... More

Make sure when choosing your Mecure that you are aware that there are 2 different ratings on two different hotels as we ended up statying at the 3 star and not the 4 1/2 that we though we had booked. Staff were very accommodating when we requested a room upgrade. Location is great for all things to do in Melbourne.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
