Great for walkers
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
This hotel is in a great location for the city, being in the CBD it is free to use the trams into town. The hotel is clean and the room was plenty big enough for us as we only used it as a base to sleep and shower. The car park is a 5 minute walk from the hotel and you need to pay for this, but the charge was reasonable. Loved Melbourne.

I recently stayed again at Ibis Styles Kingsgate Hotel for five nights, this time on the sixth floor. Further to my May 2019 review of the hotel, some additional comments: * Soap and shampoo in the bathroom is now delivered via dispensers, * Although there are only two lifts serving the six floors, there were very few times during our stay that we had to wait for a lift. * The guest laundry on the first floor requires $1 coins to operate; laundry powder is available for purchase from reception. * Entry to the hotel is challenging for people with mobility issues as there are stairs at the entrance.
Unfortunately a couple of the areas I mentioned in my last review where the hotel could be improved have not been addressed: * There is still nowhere specific in the room to put a suitcase - we ended up having to put our suitcase on the desk. I (again) hope the hotel considers providing collapsible suitcase stands in the future. * The coffee provided in the room is still powdered International Roast. While some people may think this is being very picky, the only hotel in the Accor brand that I have previously associated this coffee with is Ibis Budget.
At $136/night (including the continental breakfast for 2), the Ibis Styles Kingsgate still offers excellent value in an inner-city location and we would be happy to return,

This hotel was exactly what it promised to be - nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable. I stayed with my three teenage kids and we didn't feel too squished (although we weren't spending a lot of time in the room). Bathroom was updated, beds were comfy, amenities provided were fine. Location was great - easy to walk to Southern Cross Station and plenty of tram stops. Would have loved a toaster especially since the hotel cafe/breakfast was closed for renovations. Access to a guest laundry was handy, although not cheap at $4/load. Anyone with mobility issues should bear in mind there are stairs from the street.

The room was decent and the amenities were just fair enough for the cost taken.
But the room service was pathetic and the hotel staff+ manager himself wasn't worth writing a review at all.
I stayed just for 2 days and the room service wasn't provided for a single day. The trainee staff on duty gave the excuse that the house keeping staff was too busy to clean your room and were not able to do it, I mean, common its 6 storey hotel you are managing with heaps of rooms, that brand, and what a lame excuse.
When I reported the same to the manager next day, he put an allegation on me saying I had put the DND sign on the door and thats why they did not clean my room, to which I asked me to show the CCTV footage, which he claimed that he had seen, he did not show me those and started apologizing later for that as well.
At the end while checking out, he said he would investigate and call me in half hour, which he hasn't done till date.
So overall, if you aren't fine with stuff happening something like above, please avoid this hotel. If not, take risks on your own.

Had 4 nights booked at this hotel with a friend, stayed the first 2 nights and on the third night we seen 3 mice running around our room while in bed!! Went to reception where the receptionist did not seem shocked, offered us another room which we declined. When at reception reporting this problem, another guest also had the same problem. We were both located on the SIXTH floor!! Would not like to think what is on the first. Had to book ourselves a new hotel for the remaining 2 nights and beg for a refund which still had not came through!! When going back to the room to pack bags there were more mice running around the hallway!! Absolutely disgraceful, nothing like the rooms in the pictures and would not recommend to anyone. Definitely ruined our stay in Melbourne.

My single room was clean, quiet and functional. I enjoyed a good night's sleep. The hotel's location was an easy 5 minutes walk to the trains and Skybus at Southern Cross. It was very good value for money.

The rooms are small. We were lucky to get a upgrade to one of the bigger rooms that had been done up. The first room we were given was very small, on inquiring if we could have a larger room, The staff were happy to show us a bigger room but did mention that during the day there would be noise due to renovations, which was fine as we were out most of the day. The location is great close to everything. The staff that we had dealings with were very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and tidy.

The hotel is situated in a very convenient city centre location, the rooms are small but clean and the mattresses and pillows are very comfortable. Overall good value for money and we would stay again. Downside was street noise, we were on top floor (6) so it was ok, but I would request room away from the street. Also, there was a lack of communication between Booking.com and the hotel and the receptionist was very confused but we got sorted in the end. At all times, email communication with the hotel was very good. If I was booking through 3rd party in future, I would back it up with email confirmation to hotel directly.

Very disorganized hotel. No front access accessible for wheelchairs or prams, I had to carry my pram full of stuff plus my baby up their steep staircase to enter the building. The hotel staff were very disorganized, they did not set up a cot in my room, even though I requested one on the booking. I had to build it myself because they were incompetent and didn't know how to put it together. I got to my room and put my belongings in the room, then left for the day. I came back in the evening and my door was left open, nobody was in there, so why was the door open? all my things seemed to be there, but I felt unsafe by myself with my baby. They called me the next day to confirm house keeping in the afternoon, but when i got home again the next evening the housekeeping was not done! I called reception and asked them to come and get my rubbish and to give me fresh towels, but the staff member who came to my room was very rude and pushy and just wanted to leave. I did not enjoy my stay at all. I will not stay here again.

I've stayed in this quaint, beautiful hotel for 2 months and 19 days. Situated in a Heritage Building on Melbourne's King's Street, the hotel offers a variety of rooms from single through to family rooms. It's maintained very well by a team of hotel staff who are hardworking, professional and at the same time friendly. It's economical too. There are parts of the original building still in tact. The stunning staircase is an example of its era. The common lounge has a library and TV. I enjoyed being able to use NY Netflix account in my room. A modern Cafe serves a superb breakfast and the choices range from Mediterranean style to a sumptuous fully cooked one. The coffee is fantastic too. The Cafe staff are very friendly and have made me feel so much at home. The duty manager's have a fabulous team of front office professionals, and no queries, requests or guidance are too much for them to help a guest with anything at all. The location of the hotel in Melbourne's CBD gives access to everything for the tourist or business traveler. Food options are fantastic and there are a few good, well run Aussie pubs within a stones thrown from the hotel. I just loved my stay here, and I'll be back. Thank you IBIS Kingsgate Hotel team. There are a few convenience stores nearby the hotel. However the closest supermarket is a few blocks away. As for the restaurants,there are a lot of restaurants,from Indian food,Portugues-Creol style chicken BBQ,steak house,and McDonalds. All within walking distance,less than 1 kilometer. In 200meters from the hotel,there is a tram loop that you can get in free around the CBD. Around the CBD there are thousands of shops,restaurants,supermarkets. But dont forget that they usually closed at 5pm.
Unsure of the renovations, but all floors do have elevators so that shouldn't be an issue.
I suggest contacting the hotel directly to ask for a room thats been refurbished, and for something on the lower floor which would be easier access for you.
There are more places to choose from in the Melbourne area.
