I was in Melbourne for work and I saw that the Windsor had a good price on a room. I was very impressed. From the staff being positive and helpful, to the great food at breakfast, to the wonderful old but in very good shape hotel with lots of history, I had a wonderful stay. As a plus, the hotel... We stayed 3 nights to celebrate my Mothers 80th birthday and had a fabulous stay. The room was spacious and beds very comfortable, the old world charm with the elaborate staircase and glamorous diningroom added to the experience. All the staff were wonderful and we enjoyed the high tea and 2 birthday cakes!!!!!. I hope the old girl doesn't lose... More

Lovely old-style hotel. Attentive staff, big comfortable rooms, lots of history. It's to be closed and renovated, becoming part of a big new development. I hope that the atmosphere isn't lost in the change.

Great location, across from Parliament and on the edge of the CBD, the hotel Windsor was exactly what I was looking for. Built in 1883, it has great architectural details and charm. The room were spacious, the bed comfortable and the shower was hot. Add in some great toiletries and the whole package was wonderful. The hotel does not have... More

The Windsor Hotel was great to stay at. Staff were great. Room service was great, except for when i fell asleep and they woke me up trying to deliver my wine. The only downside I had was after i left i didn't realise that it would take them a couple of days to procress my account after I left, as... More

Beautiful as far as old world splendour goes and the service was great. The beds are getting old with low and high spots, the bathroom is small. Block out curtains would certainly assist with a sleep-in, and the road noise is obvious, I guess with older style sash windows noise is hard to control. a lovely old gem of a... More

Beautiful old building with lots of character Noisy floorboards both in our room and the room above Breakfast was a disappointment with lots of staff hovering but not great service - plus we weren't offered the fruit cup that should have been included with the breakfast. However it remains a lovely old hotel and wonderfully clean

The hotel itself has the potential to be beautiful and grand however it is clear renovations and general maintenance are required. Yes the hotel may have once been five star, however I don't agree with that rating now. For instance, our superior room had a very distinct musky smell, carpet looked dirty and the extremely loud rattling from the pipes... More

Dear Sir/Madam, Our apologies for letting our standards drop here. A major renovation is planned for early 2017 to return The Windsor to all its previous grandeur. In the meantime however there is clear work to do to maintain our current reputation. We shall ensure your particular room is inspected closely with a view to a carpet deep clean and... More

The location of the hotel was great for us. Within walking distance of MCG, shops, Sky tower lookout, parks and historical parts. We were given a great welcome from the staff who continued to look after our needs.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
