We stayed here for a group school camp booking in mid-late June and it was not a pleasant experience. Upon arrival, we got off the bus and walked through a group of backpackers smoking marijuana at the front door... What a greeting! At Discovery Melbourne, all we managed to discover were badly stained mattresses, band aids in the poorly cleaned...

Staff us not really friendly, the rooms are spacious but don't look nice. The kitchen is relatively clean in the morning but gets really dirty during the day. Pots and stuff are shabby. The only positive thing about it is the location and the price.

Thank you for your comments. I apologise for the noise. We are Melbourne's largest hostel with the most beds and rooms. It can get a bit noisy. Might I suggest next time you opt for a private room? I am pleased you were happy with the beds. Many thanks Michael Boyd

Discovery Melbourne was an alright hostel, we stayed in a double room that was very crammed - but value for money I suppose. The biggest issue I had was the kitchen. There are about 4 forks for the whole hostel, so bring your own fork!!! Also there is no drinking or alcohol allowed in the hostel, so no beers on...

Thank you for your comments. We do go through forks, mostly because of theft I am afraid! We do endeavour to keep the stock up. I have spoken to my Housekeeping team. As for the alcohol, it is out of health and safety concerns that we limit the areas for consumption. Rooftops and alcohol are not a very good mix!...

Carpet on the floor has absorbed years and years of wear and tear. Stinks real bad. Ladder steps on the bunk are not wide enough to have steady positioning of the feet when climbing up. Unsteady bunk beds basically. On a positive note, the bathrooms/toilets were really spacious and clean. The big mirror in there is a nice feature. Perhaps...

Thank you for your comments. We normally get high praise for our $5 breakfast. It is a shame you felt it was not up to standard. We do at times have to allocate different dorms. We normally feel that a complimentary breakfast is a good offer for compensation. At least it normally is. I do apologise that you felt it...

The hostel is located within a walking distance to Queen Victoria Market and other main attraction at CBD. there's 2 areas which i forsee room for improvement; 1. to provide free wifi to guest, at least at the common area 2. the locker fee is a bit pricey.

Thank you for your comments. I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We will look into this free Wi Fi idea for our common areas. The location is good. The rooms are also very clean and spacious with a comfy bed. However, it's the bathrooms that really put me off staying at this place. Thank you for your feedback: We do clean our toilets regularly and have recently purchased the latest gadgets for toilet and shower cleanliness to be installed this week. Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

“There are lockers downstairs front lobby, left down the stairs. Do go to the roof at some point. Magnet locks may need a slight press inward at the top of the black plastic that houses card scanner, this temporarily repaired the lock into my floor, but it was on the way out. The facilities do get used, and that regular, by many hands. ”
