I enyoied the citytour with Shannon very much. We've been a small group of about 13 people. Shannon told us a lot about the city, its history and bars. We also went to a cafe, tasted choclate and went up to a special viepoint with a great sight over the city.

Good enough for two backpackers staying a couple of nights. We were in a 6-bed dorm for girls only. The atmosphere in the hostel was not that great and some of the staff not so helpful. Bathrooms, dorm rooms and kitchen could have been a lot cleaner and the free breakfast consists of some bread, butter and peanut butter. Price...

Loved it. Clean and spacious. Only negative lack of plug sockets in rooms. Free brekky, good wifi, huge communal area, well equiped kitchen. Quiet even though in middle of CBD. Great location and always felt safe. In the free tram zone also.

Dining area has a number of small tables. As a result it is harder to meet other travelers. Would be nice to have more larger tables so people could sit together and make it easier to meet others. Otherwise a nice and well run hostel in a great location.

Hi diver1948, Thanks for the feedback. We actually switched to our current tables to make it easier for people to mingle and meet other travellers, so it is nice to get the other view on the issue. Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay.

This was the very first hostel I stayed at when I arrived in Australia. The kitchen is messy most of the time, but the staff cleans it many times a day. The rooms are quite clean as well. The toilets and showers are washed everyday. The rooms are not loud. The city is at a walking distance and the city...

I really enjoyed my stay at The Greenhouse Backpackers in Melbourne. I found my room very comfortable and clean. All communal areas were in pristine condition. The free breakfast between 7-9 am was a particularly nice touch. All staff encountered were very helpful and friendly. The hostel is very centrally located.

The mattress should be changed because they were already sagging. Noise could be heard from the bars that abound the area so light sleepers should use an ear plug. There was also one socket in the room which made the guests wait for their own turn to charge one’s gadgets. The staff were a good source of information around the...

Simple and standard backpacker hotel, very good location, city center so very accessible to restaurants, convenience stores and public transportation. Quick check in and check out service. Rooms are clean however, walls are not thick enough as we can hear other room occupants noises.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
