I have been to much better hostels in New Zealand. There are couple of things I found unwelcoming and poor: 1. My bed in the dorm was full of hair. When I reported that to the reception, the guy said "thats impossible, I myself checked the room". I took him up to the room and showed him, he then gave me... More

Had a really fantastic stay at YHA Auckland city. Couple of things which YHA could do differently is having a stable wifi connectivity and secondly provision of table fans (in summers). Everything else was perfect , neat and clean rooms & bathrooms, comfortable beds. Staff including Venk and Sanne were very helpful in providing information. ~Cheers

This large hostel is located near Queen Street, making it easy to use as a base for exploring Auckland. I've been to this YHA several times, and have found it to be utilitarian, but reliable. I've been in four-person dorms and private accommodation. The ventilation could be somewhat improved in many of the rooms, but it wasn't too bad. In... More

I have travelled in NZ for the last six weeks and usually, I could rely on the YHA hostels to be at least the very good backup plan. Sometimes they were even the best ones in town (like in Picton or Wanaka). In Auckland, I was badly disappointed. The staff at the reception were unfriendly when I arrived, the room... More

Room was 3 person, 1 single bed and 2 bed bunk, mattress were sponge type, not a proper innersprung bed. Room needed to be vacuumed, especially under the beds. Rest of room was typical hostel interior, bland and uninspiring. Kitchen facilities were clean and there was plenty of space. Lounge area was good, even had an outside space, where washing... More

It's a great place to stay. Very friendly staff specially Venk, who is very supportive and helpful. The kitchen is neat and clean. Since I came in to settle in Auckland, this has been a good first hault- meeting people, learning about the local landmarks and all- very central. Prices also very reasonable. Overall, very satisfied.

After landing into auckland after 28hrs of travel, this YHA was clean and comfortable if not a little dated. $1 per towel, and hairdryers can be collected from reception for a $20 deposit. Reception staff friendly and helpful. Bedroom was comfortable (3 bed dorm). Bathroom was extremely clean. 1 major negative, was after heading out to dinner and coming back... More

The rooms were clean and nice, though they were a bit small. We stayed at a room with 2 beds on the 7th floor with a nice view. The room we stayed in was pretty cold (we stayed at the hotel in September) but luckily the blankets in the room were thick so we did not have problems staying warm... More

YHAs all around the world are my go-to. I simply know I can trust them, and that is important to me. This one in particular is a little less *flash* with superb amenities (i.e. bathrooms are dorm style and not close to your room), but it does certainly come up to snuff with helpful desk employees and clean rooms and... If the owners of this YHA bothered to spend some money on upgrading the place it could be good. Unfortunately, as it is, the place is very old and run down. You are given two manual keys at check in - one to open the front door and one to open your room. Sorry if you were use to the... More
