This large hostel is located near Queen Street, making it easy to use as a base for exploring Auckland.
I've been to this YHA several times, and have found it to be utilitarian, but reliable. I've been in four-person dorms and private accommodation.
I have travelled in NZ for the last six weeks and usually, I could rely on the YHA hostels to be at least the very good backup plan. Sometimes they were even the best ones in town (like in Picton or Wanaka).

Room was 3 person, 1 single bed and 2 bed bunk, mattress were sponge type, not a proper innersprung bed. Room needed to be vacuumed, especially under the beds. Rest of room was typical hostel interior, bland and uninspiring.
