We stayed 4 nights and it is an awesome place. The atmosephere is very lovely, the bunk beds are made of wood and do not make any noise. The facilities are clean and there is free, fast and unlimited WiFi. The hosts are very friendly.

The Brown Kiwi is a great little hostel to stay at when in Auckland. It's in Ponsonby which is a trendy suburb, about a 25-30 min walk from the CBD. The rooms/kitchen/bathrooms were all clean which is really what you want in a hostel!

The hostel is in a really nice neighborhood and has a garden. The kitchen has a big table and a lot of space but you can also just hang out in the garden or in the living room, its really cosy. The staff is friendly and really helpful. The staff is cleaning the hostel every day, so its clean and...

The Brown Kiwi hostel is a place in which I was greeted with the ambiance where genuine travellors from al walks of life stay and meet. Occasionaly the conversations are supplemented with music from the hostel guitars. The old, but emmaculate clean hostel, was a pleasant suprise in the somewhat posh Ponsonby neighborhood. I found that staf was friendly, helpfull...

We arrived in NZ 10 months ago and started the journey staying at Brown Kiwi Hostel. We came back to this place after all this time on the road and we were happy to find it like when we left: a backpacker of reasonable size, family ambiance and lovely staff, quiet garden and tidy facilities. Plus the staff was really...

Good things: - free parking available - not too far from city center - nice neighborhood - late check-in (10.30 pm) was no problem Not so good: - paper thin walls ( you really hear everything !) - smelly rooms - the staff ( the receptionist didn't know anything about Auckland! He didn't know how to get to citycentre or...

Wow this is a pretty disappointing review. You have mentioned issues that have not been raised before. I can only think that we cannot please everyone. I note you came in late and therefore it was the night manager that greeted you and not our regular staff. I apologise that he did not have the information that you required -...

I stayed three nights in Brown Kiwi and overall enjoyed my time there. It's a busy place in peak season so the common areas (kitchen and garden) can't get pretty busy...I didn't find this too problematic but you have to be a bit flexible when using the kitchen or trying to find somewhere to Skype (headphones!). That bring said the...

This is a basic backpackers but well organised and under control. The guys running this hostel know exactly what they are doing. They are friendly, very supportive and offer a lot of help. The kitchen is well organised and clean. Mainly a young clientele but everyone is welcome.

Stayed here for 4 nights in January. It's in a great location right by the ponsonby road which is a fab place to visit if you like nice cafes and restaurants. Its on a little side road so there is no noise from traffic or the nightlife. I stayed in the separate building to the main hostel which was nice...

Hi, thanks for taking the time to write a review. I do apologise that you did not get the support from our staff that you would have liked. Being holiday time, there may have been relief staff helping out which is not ideal. We wish you the very best for the rest of your time in New Zealand and thank...

I spent a week at Brown Kiwi when starting a new job in Auckland and really enjoyed my stay. Mainly chose it for the location and because I prefer small backpackers to big anonymous ones and wasn't disappointed. It's perfectly located a few minutes walk to Ponsonby's shops and cafes and a half hour walk down College Hill to the...
