It should be a really good hostel, above average but slightly below very good. The positive things : - good kitchen with plenty of white ware and utensil, friendly service, not too far from town centre, good room rate, clean shared bathroom and toilet. A good place where visitors can meet a lot of people coming from different countries. However...

We arrived here as a party of four, and stayed in a pair of twin rooms. Twin rooms are tidy, and the upstairs twin was a nice spot where our party bedded down for some Planet Earth 2 on laptop. Can't comment on dorms. The kitchen one of the larger I've encountered at a backpackers. We only stayed one night,...

We had a 5 bed dorm. It was quite spacious and very clean. The owners were very friendly and helped in every situation. During a big power out they made sure everything is alright. The garden is nice and a great place to meet people.

We walked in at 10.30am and we're shown straight to a clean, hood sized double room complete with sofa. Staff were incredibly friend. Social/shared areas were large and well looked after. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, lots of hobs for cooking. Showers hot with good pressure. Plenty of info on the boards about the area and what to do....

Little did I know that Gisborne is a surf hangout & virtually everyone in the hostel was a surfer. The hostel seemed pretty basic with terrible limited wifi that lasted ten minutes. The town was closed as was public holiday. Only thing open was museum which actually was very good. I had a double room was ok I guess ok...

Muk & Marcus are the best hostesses and housemates! We felt very much at home in sunny Gisborne and decided to stay for the long term. It is very very clean and the staff (M&M and sumi) are so friendly and helpful! The deck outside is great for those warm summer nights and share a beer with new friends. Surfboards,...

Stayed here and wasn't overly impressed. I should have chosen another hostel. As a YHA member I thought I was being sensible by staying here. It's a little way out of town and a bit of a walk from the i-Site. The rooms were average, bathroom wasn't great and the wifi signal would only stretch to the lounge - not...

There is not much choice of hostels in Gisborne, but definitely would recommend the YHA. It is very quiet if you want to just relax in piece for a day or two. Rooms are spacious and clean, same goes for the bathrooms. Very well equipped and large kitchen. Cozy living room area with tv and free choice of dvds. Nice...

Lovely couple who run it, well looked after, clean kitchen and bathrooms, great to common room, nice spacious clean rooms, bikes for $5 - $15. Location is just over the bridge near kitai hill walk, only 15 to beach. Free 100mb wifi per day $2 per Gb after.

Well, there's not much to say. I stayed there one night in a double room and had the next day approximately 20 bites all over my body. Wasn't a nice experience and I didn't expect this to happen in New Zealand. This happened in August 2015 so I' don't know whether or not the owner did something against this problem.
