I could give you the stats about Shailer’s Bed and Breakfast, such as the three nicely appointed guest rooms, each with its own bathroom, air conditioning, lovely breakfast each morning, etc, etc, but you could get those things at most hotels. When you stay at a bed and breakfast you are looking for a more intimate experience. So let me tell you about Charlie and Dianna Shailer. The Shailer’s are the warmest, friendliest couple we have ever met. Their beautiful home is surrounded by rolling farmland. You couldn’t ask for a more beautiful setting. Their home is set off the road, surrounded by grassy fields and rolling hills. Dianna keeps the house spotless, yet comfortable and inviting. Her attention to detail is evident when you come to breakfast and find the table laid out beautifully. She cheerfully and expertly makes your breakfast to order. If you feel like eating in for dinner she’ll treat you to a lovely home-cooked meal featuring fruits and vegetables from their garden. Charlie is up and out early to milk the cows and tend to the farm. He has a gentle and casual presence and a warm smile that makes you feel welcome and relaxed. Take the farm tour to learn how a medium-sized dairy farm operates. This was our first trip to New Zealand. Hopefully it won’t be our last. And when we return there is no question of where we will stay. We now count the Shailers as our friends and I believe that they feel the same about the guests who stay with them.

Hello John and Sandy, Thank you so much for your very gracious review. We must apologize for not responding earlier. We missed your review at the time due to Dianna's Mum breaking her hip just after Easter and being hospitalized for 7 weeks. She is now convalescing with us which means that we have closed our Bed and Breakfast down for 3 to 6 months. Hopefully we will re-open after Christmas. We hope this little message finds you both well, Our very best wishes, Charlie and Dianna

Highly recommend staying here! The hosts are very gracious and friendly and their home is wonderful, very cozy. We stayed in the deluxe room which was perfect, spacious with a large bathroom and small sitting area. Breakfast in the morning was wonderful! We chose fresh fruit salad, toast and eggs benedict with salmon, so good! Had coffee and hot chocolate along with orange and apple juice. We only stayed one night but would definitely stay here again.

I don’t normally write reviews but after staying at Shailer’s Bed & Breakfast I simply have to! After spending 2 weeks with our family and two very active grandchildren, we were looking for somewhere comfortable for a week to just relax and ‘chill out’ and see some more of this glorious country. From the minute we got out of the car we knew Shailer’s had been the right choice; from Dianna’s warm welcome making us immediately feel at home, to the super comfortable accommodation and beds you just don’t want to get out of! Not to mention tea and fresh cookies on arrival and gourmet breakfasts served on the deck overlooking their beautiful garden - the eggs Benedict with salmon is simply fantastic. All on a lovely working dairy farm set in beautiful farmland countryside and the Pirongia Mountains as a backdrop. I don’t know how they do it, but Charlie and Dianna have that wonderful ability of making one feel really special and always seem happy to chat and/or answer questions, etc., yet without being in the least pushy or intrusive - a rare gift. They also manage to keep everything immaculate, neat and tidy and yet it is very much a warm and homely home. My husband loves to recount the story of his woodwork teacher at school, who would never give him (or anyone else) a grade of more than 9 out of 10. When asked, the teacher said however good it is, nothing is perfect. Well that may be so for woodwork, but as far as I’m concerned Shailer’s deserves full 5 stars in all categories! We had a couple of spare days before the end of our holiday and had no hesitation in re-arranging things so we could go back and be spoilt once more! Thank you Charlie and Dianna and hope to see you on our next trip to New Zealand. Errol and Nicola

Shailers offers a great taste of New Zealand within a comfortable drive from Auckland Airport. The accommodation is superb- very comfortable rooms opening onto a patio and a guest lounge - all with beautiful views over the countryside. Very quiet, peaceful surroundings. Breakfast is plentiful, fresh and delicious. The evening meal, which can be ordered, is a godsend for weary travellers. Fresh, delicious and beautifully served! Highly recommended!

From driving up the tailored lane through magnificent flower and vegetable gardens to a beautiful residence, we knew that we had arrived at the perfect place. Hosts Charlie and Dianna made us feel right at home and part of their family. We had ordered pizza and spaghetti the first evening. We soon abandoned any thought of dining anywhere else. Dianna is a fantastic chef. Both are consummate conversationalists. Prepare to be pampered in style and plied with the best of food. Setting is on a large dairy farm which only adds to the ultimate rural experience. Do not miss this bed and breakfast.
