While this hotel is very dated it has several advantages. It is an excellent choice for people with kids as the rooms are very spacious, there are grassed areas around the buildings, an indoor pool and best of all, it's within walking distance of Water-world. It is also very good value for money.

Thank you for your constructive review. The hotel was opened in 1998 and due to council height restrictions limited to 2 levels and as such has what may be considered an old fashioned set up. The advantages being the amount of space at the hotel, A one level 300 car parking area, larger rooms and better leisure facilities than most....

We recently used this hotel as a one night stop-over to enable us to visit friends on our return journey to Christchurch from the Far North. It is an older establishment but is very clean and tidy. It provides excellent value for money, especially with the bed and breakfast option that we booked. The pool looked great, although we did...

Thank you taking the time to make comment in a good and constructive way. It is a shame you didn't get to use the pool as it has been very popular during this spell of hot weather. Being indoors and covered is also a benefit to protect from the suns rays. Providing excellent value for money is a comment that...

A large hotel and conference facility, which when it was build was probably the best in the area. Sadly the rooms are now in need of an update. The sink and tiles in the bathroom were cracked, and the shower head could do with a good de-scale. Whilst the pool was nice, the changing rooms smelt like they had just...

Thank you for taking the time to make comment. Unfortunately I have been through all maintenance and guest comments and can find none regarding a crack in the hand basin but will get housekeeping to check all rooms and get it replaced. There is hairline cracking in a number of tiles due to earth movement and settling over the 15...

Have stayed here a number of times as always find it value for money & usually give the hotel excellent reviews, but this time there were a couple of little things that made it fall short of excellent. One of my major gripes with hotel rooms is when you book for 3 people but the room is clearly only set...

Thank you for taking time to make comment on your recent stay and the feedback is appreciated. By the sounds of it you have previously stayed in our 100 and 500 wings which are more family orientated and have triple bedded and queen/double bedded rooms. These rooms do not have mini-bars. The rest of the Hotel is made up of...

I haven't stayed at the Kingsgate but met up with friends who were. They were more than happy with their accommodation. I was there from 2 p.m. we had a meal in the dining room at 6:30 p.m. and I left at 9:30 p.m. Found the meal very nice although maybe just a bit too much for me. Wish these...

Thank you for your kind comment regarding the restaurant. I think it is the first one on trip advisor regarding the hotels restaurant only. Your comments have been passed onto the restaurant and kitchen staff who are extremely grateful that you have taken the time to express your positive comments. Thank you once again and we should have a new...

Great value for money. Family of 5 fit into one room with 3 beds. Room is simple but it was both clean and adequate. Checkin and checkout were easy although there's a small surcharge for paying with a credit card but kudos to them for taking our booking without charging the card. Good selection of tea and coffee although having...

Thank you for your kind comments. Yes the triple rooms are large and give families plenty of space. This along with the spa, pool, gym and steam rooms make it a popular Hotel for adults travelling with their children. Of note straight across the road is Waterworld which is a great place for the family to spend a day. Sorry...

The price was good and the complex is sprawling. Reception staff were very friendly and efficient. The room was tired. And while lots of space in the room - it's the little things. The jug does not switch off. No wifi - you have to pay (although you can have 30 min free in the reception area). The fridge drones...

Thank you for taking time to make comment and in some specific areas. I think you mean no free wi-fi as we had wi-fi installed at significant expense throughout the hotel. Prices have come down and once we are closer to repaying the investment I see the day it will be free. I have asked housekeeping regarding the electric jug...

The room (400 block) is of reasonable size, but dated & smells of smoke. Filthy stairs leading to the 1st floor, dust & particles still there a day later, so obviously not cleaned. Rather pathetic coffee facilities - 4 sachets of coffee total, all less than 1 level teaspoon, milk so small (15ml!!) that 4 are needed for the mugs...

Thank you for taking the time to make comment. It is appreciated that you have taken the time to make your criticisms known and where possible we will address them. Certainly smelling of smoke is difficult as the Hotel is entirely non smoking. The milk and coffee sachets are standard sizing for all hotels & motels and extra is always...

We stayed for 7 nights in June 2014. We are a family of 5. We were expecting a high quality room because we thought the Highgate name was associated with quite a high standard of hotel, but we found the rooms were pretty dated. Thank you for your comments regarding your stay in June. I am surprised that you were unable to obtain food during the night as we run a "night owl" menu throughout the night once the kitchen is closed. This is advertised in the compendiums. Having stayed at many Kingsgate hotels would have to say this is not one of their best. It seems they are directing their attention towards flash looking reception area's whilst neglecting pretty much everything else.
