2022 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
Winner of the Art Deco Supreme Award. The owners of Napier's County Hotel wished to combine the qualities and ambience of some of the finest hotels in the world. They have achieved this by incorporating fine service, fine dining and luxurious accommodation in line with 1930's Art Deco characteristics of Napier. The County Hotel is situated in the centre of Napier which is considered to be the 'Art Deco Capital of the South Pacific' and has captivated the emotions and senses of countless admirers. Originally built for the Hawke's Bay County Council in 1909, The County Hotel is one of only two significant buildings to have survived the massive 1931 earthquake. Faithfully refurbished as a boutique hotel, the County Hotel now stands as Napier's premier Hotel. The hotel is home to an extremely popular, multi award winning Wine Street Restaurant, the superb Churchill's Champagne Lounge, an intimate library, well-appointed function areas, conference facilities and eighteen luxurious guest rooms and offer a variety of accommodation packages. Come and enjoy this architectural masterpiece with its atmosphere of conventional luxury and allow yourself to be pampered by the attentive service of our devoted staff.

The County Hotel has it all! Charming and supremely comfortable rooms; the most helpful management and support team; proximity to everything in Napier and the quiet elegance of the library is easy to enjoy. Our stay there was indeed special.

First thing is nothing to do with the hotel Don't go to Napier on Monday or Tuesday , food options very limited Now to hotel Booked for tonight but because of Cyclone Hale stayed for 3 The welcome was good and efficient. There is a free car park just across the street and a drop off area in front for unloading. Well done Graham. The building is treat. It is a converted council building apparently and there are endless quirks like safes used as storage and also embedded in the walls. The attention to detail in making this a restored Art Deco building is second to none. Even the light switches are a thrown back to another age When the storm hit we were due to drive Napier to Gisborne but the County and the hotel in Napier advised strongly against it The lady who is the GM I thin, Angie, was lovely she checked every single website for road conditions and helped me to all the Gisborne hotel and the connections were appalling She then jiggled things around and gave us the same room. Housekeeping was spot on and the housekeeping staff were so nice. Rooms were great and well appointed in completely same style as hotel There is a (VERY EXPENSIVE) Laundromat just next door it has no association with hotel. Ironically the day we stayed was one of only two gloriously sunny days in NZ! The other upside of adding on was I got to eat at Wine street the hotels restaurant A very classy experience The food was very good and well prepared and tasty and from very good ingredients, Served by Natasha... this young lady is a delight and pleasant and helpful and works hard. Natasha was ably assisted by Angie once again The wine list was great and some clssy wines on there Well done to all of you at The County.

We have enjoyed great service from delightful staff, a gorgeous room of another era, comfort & style. Great location, easy walking to shops and restaurants, ocean spa and the parade. We opted for a weekend package and are so pleased we did, we have dined in house and the meals were exquisite. This is going to be our new go to weekend escape. Very highly recommend

What a fantastic place, huge well equipped room. Very warm welcome. The room was massive with large walk-in wardrobe and well equipped bathroom area, there was a fridge in the room and tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast was included in the price and was fabulous. We only stayed for one night but would have liked 2 , but was fully booked, we used this as a base to visit hobbiton and waitoma caves

We had a lovely long weekend here. Angie, the host, is a lovely woman and made such a fuss of me on my birthday! The rooms are large, well appointed, and very comfortable beds. The bathrooms are also well appointed. The place is immaculately clean. The historic charm of this beautiful old building makes it a very special place to stay. So very handy to cafes and restaurants. Beautiful restaurant downstairs - but you must book! Will definitely be our go to place in Napier!

Beautiful Art Deco Hotel..we were in Napier for a show and had to stay here again! made most welcome by Angela. Enjoyed our lovely room with a spa bath. Cocktails in the bar before dinner followed by a delicious fine dining 2 course dinner. Our stay included breakfast which was perfect! Wonderful pastries and pancakes. Enjoyed a complimentary port in the library... just a perfect stay! We will be back! Next time a room with a balcony.

A very comfortable old style classy hotel on the edge of the central city. Parking is available in a fenced carpark across the road. There is a silver service restaurant and associated bar. Rooms were large and comfortable. Staff could not be more helpful

Luxury in the heart of Napier. Despite being a little tired internally, this wonderful hotel oozes charm. Excellent bathrooms, very comfortable beds and well equipped rooms. The Churchill bar is perfect for pre dinner drinks. We stayed 3 nights, very attentive staff complementing the overall experience. Dinner at “ The Wine Restaurant” downstairs was excellent. It’s location just off the edge of the Main Street is quiet but short walking distance to main Napier features. The library, games area with its complimentary port was an unlocked for bonus.

We stayed for one night to celebrate a special birthday. We brought a package, including dinner, bed and breakfast. From the time we checked in, to the time we left, Angela and Lisa made us feel so at home. The Hotel has a wonderful ambience, having survived the 1931 earthquake, has kept its Art Deco charm, but with modern facilities. The meals we had in the Vine restaurant were simply outstanding, and very “Masterchef” worthy. After dinner we had a few more drinks in the very intimate Churchill bar, and were also offered complimentary Port in the Library. Parking is available just across the road. A truely amazing experience.

We could not have asked for a better two night breakaway. From the time I made the booking until the time we left, we were made to feel valued and our every wish was met. Lisa is the ultimate front of house person, and easily the best I've encountered. Quiet, comfortable and supplying everything we could wish for, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. One novel touch we particularly appreciated was a room name instead of a number; something we haven't struck in NZ or overseas. The only problem we had was how to eat all the meals we were offered. They were superb, and we didn't want to miss a mouthful, but they definitely weren't stingy with their portions! We recommend the hotel and the staff and would have no hesitation in returning. With the central location we did wonder whether there would be excessive road noise, but absolutely not. An easy stroll to good cafes and shopping, and having a carpark opposite was an absolute bonus as there was plenty to see and do in such a beautiful City. We also felt completely safe coming and going at night.
