My husband is an essential wheelchair user, and I searched high and low for wheelchair accessible rooms in NZ. I came across Bay Sands on Expedia, and we were not disappointed! In fact, this was the best of the six rooms we stayed in during our travels in the North Island. On arrival we were very cordially greeted by Jimmy,...

Stayed here for 4 nights. Poor sleep quality due to a hot & stuffy room. Once the curtains are closed there is no airflow in the N/S facing units, the road is very noisy so to open doors are not pleasant. Insufficient power points in the living area. Shower was the worst I have experienced in years. No lighting to...

Stayed here for several days in February 2017. Let's get it out of the way - the decor is very dated, and screams out for an update. However - it was clean, serviced daily, large rooms with comfortable beds, excellent wifi and cable TV if that's your thing. It's not right in the heart of things in Paihia, but it...

Long weekend getaway, we had the front studio apartment, great sea / bay views, tidy and clean, daily service, you pay for the Location and the view which was stunning and pleasant. the decor reminded me of art decor style, nothing flash but comfortable.[probably could do with modernization] shower was a bit disappointing as the pressure was very low. had...

We have been travelling throughout New Zealand for the last two months and stayed in a number of motels. We can safely say that this was the worst so far. The room was dark, shabby and although clean it looked dirty. Furniture was worn and stained. Shower rail held with plastic tape, armchair was broken and in the room 8...

The location was great, opposite a nice beach with a 5 minute walk into town and a shorter walk to the supermarket (Countdown). The kitchen was fine for making simple foods and meant we did not have to eat out all the time. Most rooms access a balcony or outside area with a minor view of the ocean - the seafront...

Enjoyed our stay at Bay Sands. We had one of the sea facing studios which was much nicer than being at the back and worth the extra we paid. Handy to Paihia town but without the noise. Also added bonus of having a nice beach out front and use of bikes etc. Could do with a spruce up but was...

There was a group staying in one of the units very loud partying until 3.30 am -When we complained to reception the Guy at reception said he didn't hear anything which I simply cannot believe as the group was really loud and aggressive- no apology from Bay Sands and lots of families we spoke to the next morning were very...

Lovely spot. Well maintained. Unfortunately our aircon unit wasndt working and being behind the front units meant we missed out on the breeze. This made for quite a hot experience. Otherwise a great place.
