Detailed Reviews
We were warmly welcomed by Tom, The Manager. Nothing was too much trouble for him and everything we asked for, he managed to get for us.
It wasn't a typical visit, as all the facilities, bar, restaurant, gym etc., apart from a very cold swimming pool were closed, due to Covid. Our Apartment couldn't be serviced either, so unusually, we were having to make our own beds up etc. We didn't realise this when it was booked by a Family Member for us, as we planned to eat in the restaurant. Luckily, there were plenty of eateries a short walk from the hotel.
We did however, have breakfast. There were seven of us. The Waitress was First Class and got our orders spot on, was very efficient, polite and friendly and again, nothing was too much trouble for her, which is always refreshing.
There was plenty of parking available. There was also a lift to upper floors. We were on the lowest floor, so we didn't need to use it.
The Apartment was spotlessly clean and was very well equipped. We overlooked the Bay, with stunning views. The balcony had a table and chairs, so it was a lovely spot to relax and relax we did.
We had a couple of simple negatives. It would be beneficial if a couple of hooks behind the bathroom door were provided. It would make bathing easier, as there wasn't anywhere to hang our clean clothes or bath towels.
We weren't too happy that the bathroom/toilet came right off the kitchen, with no dividing door, so if you were having a wash, or cleaning your teeth, you were in full view of the person in the kitchen, not ideal. If you were taking a bath/shower, then no problem, as there was a door.
Other than that, our Apartment Room 401, on the corner, was bright and airy and comfortable. Our Daughter was next door, so she didn't have a window in her bedroom, making it very dark.
When the Kingsgate have special offers, we will visit again. We did find $185 per night to be expensive, especially as we couldn't be afforded any facilities, which would have enhanced our stay, but this obviously wasn't the Hotel's fault.
We would recommend this Hotel.

Room Tip: Wonderful Bay views in the front apartments, which we were glad we booked. Not so in the other...

Situated right across the street from the Beach and the views of the islands in the bay are lovely. Shops, restaurants and ferries only a short walk away. If you have a room on the ground floor, it's possible to park right outside your room and access the room through the patio doors, so no carrying the suitcases through the hotel. Nice size rooms but a little on the tired side and some TLC would not go amiss. Swimming pool and spa are available but sadly not when we stayed due to water restrictions imposed on the hotel due to water rationing. Nice Bar and Restaurant on-site. All staff from reception, cleaners, bar and restaurant were friendly, helpful and chatty. Guest laundry is available and would definitely stay again if stopping in Paihia.

Great view of the seaside, excellent location and only a few minutes away from the shops, cafe, restaurants and a very little countdown, wharf and waitangi beach just around the corner.
Room with double beds was great, warm and comfortable and a bath to soak in.
Our stay included breakfast but during covid there was no buffet, skelton staff, but manager, tom was great. We also had dinner looking out towards a beautiful scenery which was roast pork, large serving for $15. Such a shame it was only 4 people in the dining room that night. Tom, a one man band serving our dinner upstairs then running downstairs for guests to book in, hats off to you tom.
It was a shame due to covid that no spa, no games room were open but guests did enjoy a swim in the pool and spent time under the hut near the pool.
We stayed there for 3 nights at around $450 was worth the stay.
Thanks to tom, wynn the waiter and chef during our queens birthday getaway from auckland. Please support tom at kingsgate paihia

If you would stay at this hotel be aware of the fact that the upper floors are served by a series of narrow staircases and there is neither lift nor porter! In at least one area there is a warning that the floor is uneven but unfortunately the overhead light is positioned so that you have tripped before it goes on....the rooms are light, bright & well serviced but there is no radio apart from the tv channel which doesn’t work. SO if you have difficulty with 20 kg of hard sided suitcase go for the lower floor, & if you like music at night go somewhere else.

We booked this place because my siblings love pools but for our entire stay the pool was closed. We were partially refunded - 20% of what we had paid for three nights - but I do still personally think we should have been refunded for a whole night at least.
Other than that the service was really good with really friendly staff. There was free breakfast which was pretty decent - although on our last day everything had run out when we got there and they didn't refill anything even though there were 45 minutes left.
The bathroom door didn't close properly and my grandma could hear me pee because the door was really thin. But it was good value for money and at the end of the day that's all that matters.

We stayed one night here and it is a nice hotel in town area, neat and clean and staff friendly. On the minus side, the restaurant was closed although it was suppose to be open; when we called to find out check out time, no one answered the phone or returned calls; no microwave in room but tea and coffee etc and jug provided along with iron and ironing board and no tissues provided in room either. One big drawback is that once you make the reservation you will not get any money back if you have to cancel.

Loved our stay, pool area is perfect for the kids, breakfast was amazing, staff were lovely. Would recommend they put up a small washing line in bathroom to hang things to dry and put sun loungers in pool area. Would definitely stay again. Perfect location

We enjoyed our stay at Kingsgate. The staff was friendly, helpful and professional. There was a problem with the circuit breaker in our room; and someone was sent to our room to fix it immediately.
The dining room had a beautiful view and served excellent food.
Our room was spacious and comfortable, and we could not have been more pleased with the location. We especially loved watching the fireworks across the street on New Year's Eve.

Very disappointed room too small for 3 adults did explain when booked that we were three independent adults and needed at least one separate room. But turned up to a small studio room with three single beds. Outside the area they keep the bins and paid $200 for the night.. not there fault the pool and spa not working due to water restrictions but they could have made sure we were aware prior to booking.. would.not go again

Everything was good about the hotel, and we enjoyed our brief stay. The staff showed great sensitivity to all that may be required to make our stay comfortable. The location is terrific, and lots of parking space. All in all, worth staying again at this property.
