We stayed here for several nights in February to attend the Waitangi Day celebrations and would not stay here again! It was not cheap but the rooms were very much in need of an update, jammed up the back of a steep driveway. The single beds in the main room had no bedside lights, and the main light in that... Stayed here for a couple of nights and for $NZ110 a night for 3 people it was okay value. The location which is just across from the beach and about 3 minutes walk from town and the ferries to Russell is the big attraction with this place but the motel itself is old and needs a refit inside most of... We stayed at the Abel Tasman Lodge for 6 nights. Regardless of what others may have to say about this place, we found everything to be spot on. Admittedly the furnishing needed upgrading desperately and new washers put into the taps. The rooms are definitely clean and spacious. Remember this is not the Hilton. The biggest set back is the... We booked in here for 5 nights but stayed for 7, we didn't want to leave. The hotel doesn't pretend to be a plush hotel but it does have magnificent views over the Bay of Islands. The staff are very helpful and efficient. The rooms could probably do with updating but the beds are very comfortable, the bathroom has a... More

Room wasn't cleaned properly(paper under bed and part of one of the blinds under there) Room damp, bathroom insect screen ripped so couldn't use, this meant leaving the bathroom window shut and more damp. Bag of crisps cost 10$, but you have got a fridge so I advise you take some food (snacks & drink) with you. The staff were... More

We were attracted by the exterior and location of this place and decided to spend time there. Owner is Scottish and friendly and has owned the place for about 5 years apparently. I dont think hes spent anything on the inside of the place during that time and if you want to go back to 60/70's decor, complete with melamine,... More

The rooms (ours was an upper, seaview one-bedroom) definitely need updating (tired furniture, kitchen fittings, etc) , especially for the High Season prices. However, everything was clean, bed excellent, wi-fi access free and very fast and they could not be faulted on service .....helpful advice from the ever-present owners, swift responses to my emails prior to arrival, a blown lightbulb... My husband and I stayed here just for one night in August, we didnt have a booking and were able to get a room overlooking the ocean. The place was neat, tidy, fully equipt kitchen, 2 tvs, queen sized bed and enough space to sit back and relax at night, it was cozy and had everything that we needed. It... More

I chose Abel Tasman for my stay in Paihia and was not dissappointed. I would not give cleanliness 5 stars but the place is spacious and acceptable. The kitchenette had everythiing you need. The view from the room was fantastic. Very conveniently located within walking distance to the wharf where you book all the water activities. (Less than 5 min... More

Chilling out in Paihia (and a delightful place it is) we'd already booked another, perfectly acceptable, motel for a couple of nights but they couldn't accommodate us for subsequent nights. We were delighted to move to the Abel Tasman having strolled into town and checked out a few places. The good news - the view over the bay from our... More
