Only stayed one night as I was passing through. Clean room (I had a 4 bed dorm), great pool and nice atmosphere. Normal kitchen/laundry facilities onsite, but also has a cafe/bar. Meals are nice, but expensive. Feral cats scavenge from the skip bin at night.

Ok prised. Fairly close to the town centre. Not too much parking space. No sound proofing of any kind in the chalets. Good for one night stay. Shower nozzle was located so that you had to kind of squat to get your hair washed. Then again, it seems to be a thing in NZ

We arrived and were giving our keys to the room. When we entered we were shocked to see none of the beds had been made and the floor was filthy! There was holes in the walls and only one plug to accomadate four people! The beds were all mismatched and looked to be very old. We were asked to leave...

For the price we were only expecting two beds in a room, which is what we got. The room was small (again fine for the price) but being on the upper floor in summer it was *very* hot. The window only opened a small amount and we ended up having to sleep with the door ajar to cool the room...

Stayed at The Backyard Inn with my family for 4 nights in early December 2015. Have only positives to say: Clean and cosy chalet, very nice staff, delicious coffee.... Certainly a place we would like to return to in the future.

For $60 NZD we didn't expect much more than a bed in a room. The room itself was clean and tidy BUT the heater was left full heat when we got into our room and it was the middle of summer. We couldn't cool down the room with the window, we tried to open the door to get some cooler...

$12 pp for a tent site is good value given the kitchen, common room and heated pool. I can make a few recommendations to them to improve things: I don't agree with the lack of recycling bins - a sign says that people should reduce and reuse but that isn't always possible so the lack of recycling is a poor...
