We arrived at the hostel and were able to check in immediatley. Because we booked the hostel separately we weren't all in one room but the women at the reception offered us to stay in one of their apartments. The other room would have been kind of small but still very nice and clean. The apartment was incredible and definetly...

We stayed here with our 7yr old son and another family who have a 12yr old and 7yr old. We each rented a cottage and booked them side by side. The cottages were both extremely well equipped and cleaned daily. We were given clean towels every day which was most unexpected. There is a grass area outside the cottages where...

Don't think I'll ever stay anywhere else when I'm in New Plymouth, you can't beat this place! Came with a party of 6 over Easter weekend and was given a dorm all to ourselves. The hostel was so clean, and calm. Made the short walk to the waterfront every morning for a jog along the Coastal Walkway, great coffee joints...

Came back for a stop over and felt immediately like home again. Even after traveling whole new Zealand still one of the best hostels. Noticed improvements (wall paintings etc) and maintenance which has been done. Can really recommend everyone to stay when having a stop in New Plymouth!

Ducks and Drakes is a small family run motel attached to a hostel. The owners are friendly but not intrusive. The units are clean neat tidy and spacious. It is close to town - easy walking distance with food outlets, supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and shops all a short stroll away. It is very quiet. We stay there regularly and highly...

The last time I stayed here, it was with the previous owner. I was lucky enough to get back in for the annual booked out WOMAD weekend in March, and I will not be letting my standing booking lapse again. This place is ideal. Great customer service, close to Pukekura Park, quiet and clean. Also hired a bike from here...

I have been staying at Ducks and Drakes over WOMAD for many years, and it's always a pleasure to return. The bedrooms are clean and comfortable, and the public spaces (kitchen, dining room, lounges) are bright and cheerful, spacious, and well-equipped. Pleased to see recycling bins and 'free food' sections in the fridge and on the bench for leftovers. Bathrooms...

I keep coming back to Ducks and Drakes year after year for the convenient location, super-friendly owners, cosy comfy colourful rooms, and really friendly vibe. Perfect for the relaxed traveller wanting something a bit different. There's not too many bells and whistles but they have everything you need and you'll definitely feel instantly at home there.

Stayed in a one bedroom cottage. Very comfortable and well presented, kitchen facilities good, cleaned daily. In a quiet location yet near to three large supermarkets and not far from the town centre. Staff very friendly and helpful. A good experience.

Brett and Paula run a amazingly quirky, friendly, fun and quiet retreat at here Backpackers. When I say quiet, I mean the staff even asked my permission twice if they could switch there vacuum cleaners on...far out, what attention to guests! Otherwise, what a joy to stay there. I only hope they can accommodate me and my family at Womad...
