I'd never stayed in a YHA hostel before, so I didn't really know what to expect. This was a huge complex (so large in fact there were 2 kitchens!) which was just like a uni/college block. The twin room we were in was clean and functional, so it afforded a good night's sleep. We were getting the 8.30am interislander ferry...

As with the majority of purpose built YHAs, this one had plenty of space and common rooms. The kitchen was incredibly well equipped, bedrooms were comfortable and secure and bathrooms were plentiful and clean. Great stay.

I stayed one night in a single room with shared bathroom for around $83. Bed rather squashy, Spartan room and no free tea/coffee as in most nz backpackers. It was clean and the desk staff were helpful and polite but not really value for money in my humble opinion.

Hello hippichicknz, Thanks for taking the time to leave some feedback. It’s good to know our front desk staff were able to help you during your stay, though I’m sorry to hear we weren’t able to quite meet your expectations. In the future, you might consider becoming a YHA member for $25 per year. That will guarantee a 10% discount...

Just passed through Wellington for one night while making my way towards the South Island. All other hostels were sold out (I didnt check the Base hostel) stopped here in the evening. Front desk staff decent and got me in a room pretty quick although didn't give me much info about the place ( I assume because I only booked...

I stayed in a shared doorm room with shared bathtroom and it was pretty good. Nice clean rooms and nice facilites in genreal in the hostel. The best thing about it is the location, very close to everyhting you need. I would say a bit pricey but worth it :)

I have stayed at Wellington YHA on three previous occasions and have always enjoyed myself thoroughly. It is a Modern City Hostel situated within easy walking distance of all Wellingtons attractions. It is more like a hotel really with attentive and helpful staff running a clean and well maintained operation.Since my last visit however, free wifi has been introduced and while...

Hello, Thank you for the great feedback on our hostel, which is always appreciated. WiFi and the use of digital devices through the night is one our new modern challenges, especially in shared dorms. We, like you, would prefer guests to use public areas when they are communicating with home, especially late at night, so as not to disturb other...

Common rooms have no time limits and people may stay up all night making noise. Near one of two elevators and they click and whine loudly...all night. Steetside...expect honking, midnight skateboarders and the smokers' voices echoing up from the concrete. Not the loudest, but definitely the rudest, I was woken up at 7am by the employees' music, after being kept...

The YHA in Wellington has a great location, very central and easy to strike out into the city from - it's just a couple of minutes walk away from the Te Papa museum, and around 10 - 15 minutes walk to the independent shops, bars and cafes on Cuba Street. It has good facilities for a hostel and the basics...

Huge hostel, the only one I've seen with a coffee shop in the front. You can also get a breakfast deal of bagels and espresso-style coffee there. We had a double room with private bath, and took advantage of laundry facilities. Location is great. Front desk staff was very helpful for planning activities or booking other hostels.

I stayed in a single room for 3 nights but room was a bit stuffy. The location was great for visiting city sights and staff were extremely helpful and facilities were very clean and good. I would stay there again but perhaps in a room with windows on the street.
