Small room, too many pillows, but excellent location! Convenient to tram, parks, restaurants & bars. Electric tea pot was a plus. Room cleaning didn’t happen until 3;30 p.m. I would not want to stay here for an extended stay.
The Distinction is right opposite the Cathedral but it is still in a quiet and peaceful spot and not too far from the shops and riverside. The tourist tram stop was close by. Modern style with not much in the way of character but comfortable with a good downstairs lounge area and friendly bar. The Restaurant can be busy at buffet breakfast time but a good choice of food, kept replenished and one can find a table whatever. Evening menu is also good. Entering my room I wondered what to do with all the cushions/pillows on the large comfortable bed and most had to be stacked on the floor. The room was obviously laid out more for business visitors ( I was on holiday) but I found that no problem. Spotlessly clean. I struggled to find out how to work the press button electric shower but the friendly staff sorted my problem out, explaining that I was not the first to be puzzled. A city hotel like so many others but one would be hard pushed to find fault.…
I left my sweater in the closet of my room at the Distinction Hotel in Christchurch NZ. When we notified the Duty Manager of it and requested it be shipped to me at my expense, he, Ally Brown, said he was traveling to my destination the next day. Mr. Brown brought my sweater to my new hotel, 481 km away. Mr. Brown's consideration, thoughtfulness, and assistance are beyond measure. Being very limited in luggage allowance on my tour, required that I only bring one sweater. So retrieving mine instead of having to find another one while on tour was thankfully averted. My tremendous thanks, once again go to Mr. Ally Brown, Duty Manager, extraordinaire.
My wife and I stayed here for MIQ in late 2021 and were really impressed by the quality, so we resolved to stay here when we were next in Christchurch. We stayed here two nights in late January, at the beginning and end of a Lake Tekapo holiday. We got a Superior King room on the 10th floor and it was great! The bathroom in particular was excellent – very modern, with both a rainfall and regular showerhead. The service was great from start to finish – the staff were very friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome. We used their valet service for $25 per night (roughly equivalent to or potentially cheaper than nearby parking). However, we didn't use the car much; as the hotel is located in the centre of the city, a lot is within easy walking distance. The price is reasonable for a hotel of this quality. There were cups and glasses; although bowls and small plates would have been useful in addition. Overall, we were once again delighted with our stay at Distinction Christchurch.…
Excellent hotel with a great location within the centre of Christchurch. Room was well presented with all the expected facilities. For breakfast you have a selection of cold and cooked items which again was ideal. In summary, great hotel in an ideal location. Recommended place to stay.
The Distinction hotel is a reasonably priced hotel placed central to good restaurants and shops Tram stop just outside the door which is an excellent form of transport Rooms comfortable just could update the bathroom to enable a walk in shower and not a bath No mirror in the room other than in the wardrobe door The staff are fabulous and very amenable and friendly Breakfast excellent with a wide choice of good food Disappointed the bar closed at 8.30pm along with the restaurant
Our room was spacious and comfortable. We were on a high floor with a great view over the old cathedral and city. Location was walking distance from most of the places in Christchurch we wanted to visit.
We flew in from Australia at midnight so the 24hr reception was a big plus. Staff were really helpful throughout our stay. We got a family room in the older section which was still really nice. The kids loved having a queen bed each. Breakfast had a good selection and parking is valet. The location is excellent - with the trams very close and all the city attractions in walking distance.
We arrived on New Year’s Eve so the hotel was very busy, but they took time to tell us what was happening in the city that evening and where we would be able to go and eat if we did not want to eat at the hotel The room we had was right next to the lift shaft so was quite noisy, the staff were happy to move us the next morning. The room was clean and very comfortable with the most amazing pillows, so soft and comfortable, We had a view out of the city. The hotel is centrally places and most parts of the main city can be easily reached by walking. The tram passes right by the hotel Great central place to stay
We stayed 4 nights at The Distinction Hotel in Christchurch over Christmas, arriving Christmas eve. Our room was a Junior Suite and it was excellent - large, great facilities, a very good bathroom and over all an excellent room for our 4 nights. We found the staff to be friendly, knowledgeable and providing a good level of service. This started some months prior, after booking online, I made enquires re lunch in their very good Gumption Restaurant for Christmas Day. My enquiry was handled by Rowan, the Food and Beverage Manager whose service and communication for our lunch booking was first class. All done promptly and efficiently by email back to me in Australia, including arranging the required prepayment a week or so prior to the lunch. As I did not want to put my credit card details on an email, Rowan quickly offered to charge it to my room account. The lunch was very good and included a three hour beverage package. On the day. we were looked after very well by Sophie, who also looked after us at breakfast each morning. Sophie is a credit to this hotel as her service level is outstanding, remembers little details about your preferences and overall was just so friendly and helpful. We have stayed at great hotels all over the world in our many years of travel, and the Distinction Hotel in Christchurch would have to be one of the best all round hotels we have stayed in. Probably not the most luxurious ever, but taking in to consideration our room, the service from all the team, the Restaurant and the personal level of service we received, this hotel is right up there. And their location on Cathedral Square can not be beaten. An excellent 4 night stay Rod…
