Me and my friend stayed one night at this house for backpackers. The experience was nice and the beds were very comfortable. The owners were super friendly and they helped us in many practical ways like gave us good advices, helped us with the laundry machine and offered us tea and snacks. I can recommend this homely hostel for everybody!...

This home is very clean & as others have suggested has everything you need in the kitchen, free use of washing machine, Hairdryers etc but sometimes we felt in the way. On arrival with no booking, the door opened, Alan looked at us as if we were in the total wrong place. When we asked for a room he said...

Really lovely, homely place. Family run and very well cared for. Welcoming and friendly it's a lovely oasis in the city. The garden is beautifully maintained and a relaxing spot to chill in. Room was clean, well-appointed and good value for money.

Whilst very clean facilities, and standard dorm rooms, it felt like we were guests in the owners house rather than having paid to use the facilities. For example the lounge being closed off so the owners could watch TV. And being ask to to get out bed like a child at half ten in the morning because the beds people...

Spotlessly clean. Stunning garden. Only one toilet and one shower plus a combined shower/toilet room between everyone. Our welcome on an early arrival was unpleasant. Interaction with hosts was then variable over 3 days. Sometimes they were warm and helpful. Other times we felt that perhaps they were fed up with having all these people in their house.

i really enjoyed staying in this hostel. it is clean, quite, has cool backyards, and friendly owners. i arrived in christchurch almost night time and need to catch other bus in the morning. therefore, i dont have enough time to see around. Alan then drove me around the city before leaving christchurch. that is very kind of him.

We really enjoyed this place! It is a home style hostel which gives it a cozy and comfortable feel. Alan was super friendly and helpful! I feel it would be hard to always share your kitchen with young travellers but he makes the effort to talk to you and give you any advice he can. Super nice guy. The backyard...

Me and my partner and a really nice time staying with Alan and keiko. First off the place isn't a hostel, but if you're looking for a clean quiet place with owners that will give you heaps of info on everything to do on the South Island then you're in the right place. All the facilities are good and clean,...

The location is mega far away from the city center properly a 30+min walk and it is about a 20+min walk from the nearest supermarket which is a pain . internet is a rip off 5dollars for 5MB...

Having read the other reviews it seems that whether you love or hate this place really depends on the mood the owners are in. While they havn't been what one would call rude or unfriendly during our stay we, too left with the weird feeling of being unwanted guests in someone elses house, disturbing their personal privacy. In our opinion...

“There is a Speight's Bar and Restaurant next door to this hostel. If you're staying on a Saturday night, I would recommend to book a room on the other side of the hostel, as it can get loud later in the evening.”
