This is a pretty property with many details focused on customer service and hotel facilities. The garden is amazing! My compliment goes to Harley who serves us in the restaurant during breakfast. Her team is awesome! Overall a great stay here.

We were stuck here during Lock Down for 3 weeks the hotel and ALL the staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. We were up graded 3 times during our stay and our final room was a garden room with patio doors and outside seating right near the hotel garden. There were about 40 guests mostly Brits and they could not do enough for us all. The room rate was reduced and a discount was given off room service food as the restaurant was closed. Beds and towels were changed often with little cheery notes left by the staff for you. Jason and the kitchen staff were excellent offering daily specials for dinner, they even did a quiz for a few days. The hotel is opposite a beautiful 200 acre park with the Mona Vale park around the corner which was very pretty with the River Avon running through the middle. All in all we could not have had a better place to stay during Lock Down. Thank You to all the staff.

Great location in a quiet neighbourhood.
The room overlooked the garden which was simply stunning.
The laundry was tucked away in a little corner of the hotel and while the signs showed timing of the washer and dryer, each cycle was a little longer than that.

Continental breakfast can be upgraded to a full hot breakfast for NZD8 and I found this to be worth the money. However, filtered coffee was weak and barista made coffee was excluded from the buffet

My husband & I stayed here for 2 nights before we started our South Island motorcycle trip and 1 night before flying back to Auckland for our North Island trip starting 12/31/19. We had booked our NZ vacation the prior February and after much research decided on the Hilton (and are Honors members). We arrived a little while before check in time and our room was ready.

I thought the double bed room was a decent size and it was clean. The bed was comfortable. I used the gym a few times, but it was too cool (unusual for that time of year we're told) to use the pool and I'm an avid swimmer even in 70F water. Our 1st room was on the 2nd floor and didn't have a balcony. Our 2nd room was on 1st floor and overlooked the gardens towards the dining area. We appreciated and used both the safe and fridge.

The hotel isn't downtown but a block away is a main road so we walked to the restaurants we ate at all 3 nights. We enjoyed our meal at Dux Dine of flounder and local fish, Gurnard. The 2nd night we ate at La Maison and had tuna, scallops and cauliflower soup. The 3rd night we had a nice meal of Pad Thai nearby. (which I didn't record the name of).

Breakfast was included which we enjoyed the variety of the buffet. One word of advice, let the staff bring your coffee. My husband got up to help himself initially and another time to a 2nd cup and was told they would bring it.

The grounds were in full bloom with beautiful roses and a nice variety of other colorful flowers which we enjoyed. There were some overgrown areas typical of English style gardens along with the water features.

The hotel generously kept our 2 aluminum riding equipment cases (along with 2 suitcases) for us while we were on our 10 day motorcycle trip. We had a decent place to park the bike (the 1 night we had it there). Despite the negative reviews, our experience was a positive one and staff was cordial.

This Hotel has recently been modernised to a very high standard

Check in was a breeze and we were given clear directions to our room and where to park our car

Upon entering, the room was warm and toasty thanks to the central heating.
The one thing we noticed straight away was the size of the room – it was very generous with a huge TV….

The King size bed was very comfortable and we both slept very well

The Shower was a little on the small side but it was perfectly adequate, and the complimentary toiletries they use are very good

Our room rate included breakfast and the buffet breakfast they have there is one of the best ever – plenty of choice for hot and cold food… plus they can make poached / fried eggs or omelettes to order. You must try the breakfast if you stay here

The only downside was the free wifi – we could both connect to it, but it appears that only 1 device can use it at a time… plus it was very slow. There are options to ‘buy’ better wifi, but the free wifi should have at least worked for checking e-mails

Also checkout took a lot longer than it needed to. They had to remove / reverse the charges they had already billed us for, then re-charge us in full again and add the credit card surcharge on… that didn't really make sense to us.

all the staff we encountered were very friendly and welcoming

Overall it was a great stay and we’d definitely stay here again

I docked a dot because I was never able to access their wifi. Otherwise the stay was very good. They have a laundry where you can wash your own clothes if you've been traveling awhile, but use it during the off hours. There was a line of people wanting to use it in the evening. This was more centrally located than I thought. If you like to walk, it's about 15 minutes to the Christchurch Botanical Gardens.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights whilst visiting Christchurch, he booked a disabled adapted bedroom. Upon arriving at the hotel we received a lukewarm reception from a lady on reception, this was repeated on checking out by the same member of staff.
1. The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable however the bed was a little high for my wife to transfer safely from her wheelchair by herself so I had to lift it onto the bed.
2. The bathroom was one of the least spacious rooms that we had encountered during our six week trip to New Zealand having stayed in 17 different hotels, this made it difficult for my wife to manoeuvre within the bathroom in her wheelchair, also there is a distinct lack of shelving within the bathroom.
3. Finally our second night stay at this hotel was interrupted by loud voices from the adjoining room where there appeared to be a number of people enjoying themselves late into the evening.

Here you can appreciate a quiet setting in a residential area that is within two blocks of major roads. You are across the street from a large public park and have an easy walk to restaurants, shops, and public transport. Even the city center is walk-able if you have the time, (it's directly on the other side of Hagley Park) the city terrain is very flat, which is great for bicycle rentals.

As a Hilton Diamond member, I received a central garden view room with separate bathtub/shower and a balcony, plenty of drink vouchers (no official executive lounge), and the full buffet breakfast with lots of hot options energized me for a day of sightseeing. Unfortunately, the pool was closed as it was the end of winter. I would recommend unless you absolutely must stay right in the CBD.

While in lockdown in New Zealand we stayed here for two weeks. All the hotel staff were very helpfulll and polite. The food was good and served to our room at no extra charge. Indeed the hotel helped out with the costs by reducing the room rate and giving a discount on all food and drink.

The hotel is tucked away which makes it nice and quiet, but close to the city and beautiful walks in Hagley Park and the Botanical gardens.
Breakfast was well worth the add-on. The room was a great size and included bath robes and slippers which is always a great touch. The heating/aircon worked well although was a little rattley.
Only downside was issues with the internet- although the very helpful staff got me sorted out and once it was working it was fast enough to stream shows on Netflix.
The hotel could really do with an in house spa, that would have made it 5stars!

Hi, is soundproofing in rooms good? Can you hear traffic noise during the night? Thanks.
Northampton, United Kingdom238 contributions108 helpful votes
The hotel is located well away from the road. When you book you can ask for a room on the side away from the road. We have stayed there a number of times and not noticed any road or other noise. Lots of airline staff stay there and I doubt they would like to stay in a hotel where there is road noise. If you look it up on Google Maps you will see how dar from the road it is.
