This is a great place to stay in Christchurch with easy access to Hagley Park and the beautiful botanic gardens. Check-in is easy and friendly and we were made to feel at home immediately. Lena pointed out all the local features including the restaurants and supermarket around the corner. I must say that the bed is one of the most comfortable beds I slept in during our travels with the curtains shut out the light. We began and ended our short trip (Akaroa and Kaikoura loop) at this motel and would highly recommend it to others.
Our flight from Sydney to Christchurch landed at midnight and we had contacted Lena prior to inform her and she indicated that she would keep our room key in the lock box. We arrived at the hotel around 1:30am and opened the lock box to find no key. We called and rang the office doorbell and were greeted by Peter, Lena's husband who checked the booking records and explained that there had been a misunderstanding about the check in date and time and we would only get our room at 10am that morning. We immediately became anxious about where we were going to spend the night in a new and unfamiliar city. Without hesitation, Lena and Peter immediately welcomed us into their home, set up beds for my parents and I in their living room and ensured that we had a warm and comfortable place to spend the night. The presence of mind, compassion and welcoming nature of Lena and Peter is something that we will hold close to our hearts for a lifetime. Despite being woken up in the middle of the night, they had the patience and presence of mind to ensure that after a tiring flight we weren't left on the streets, in the cold. In this day and age, I know of very few people who would so graciously allow strangers into their home and when my father tried to pay for our accommodation in their home that night, Lena refused to accept, saying that we were her guests who she had chosen to welcome into her house. Misunderstandings are a common part of life, but it is the character of those involved and the approach of resolving the issue that makes the greatest difference. We spent a few days in Christchurch, visited Queenstown and then came back to Christchurch for a day before flying back to Sydney. We stayed at Argyle on the Park again as we appreciated the hospitality, convenience of location and comfort of the rooms that contained everything we needed for a reasonably comfortable stay. Lena goes the extra mile to take extra care to ensure that the small things are kept in the room such as cold glasses in the fridge, shower cap, milk in the fridge and a variety of hot beverage items to pick from. This makes your stay an easy one, as you are not running around trying to find things. We are thankful for the wonderful accommodation experience that we had at Argyle on the Park and for Lena and Peter's friendship. If you are looking for a place that feels like home away from home, I highly recommend staying at Argyle on the Park- you won't regret it!…
From checking in to leaving Lena was pleasant helpful and knowledgeable of the area. Her homely touches in the generous King studio left nothing to be needed. Lena’s attention to detail is very apparent. The bed was very comfortable with excellent linen . split cycle air conditioning. Everything very clean. It is just around the corner from a variety of eating places and across the road from the huge and beautiful Hagley Park and the magical Avon river. There is a onsite laundry with washer and dryer with a clothes line if you prefer.public transport near by with a shopping centre within easy reach.
This is the 3rd time we've stayed at this motel and we will continue to choose it whenever travelling to Christchurch. Clean and well-appointed rooms, friendly and helpful owner/staff, great location on Hagley, near public transport etc. and fantastic value.
Stayed here as part of our Transalpine train trip. Great location, clean, tidy and close to restaurants, Hagley park and other POI's. Owners are friendly and welcoming. Provided free drop of and pick up from the nearby railway station and were happy for us to leave our rental car at the motel while we overnighted in Greymouth. Happy to stay here again.
Stayed for three nights at the end o a month touring NZ. Great hotel adjacent to Hagley park with golf course and cricket pitches nearby. Lovely stroll into the city. Lots happening in the city whilst we were there, food festival, live music and traditional shows. Lovely friendly owners. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. TV had netflix and freeview. All good!!!!
Good value and great location right next to the park. Apartment was clean and had enough room for our needs. What really sealed the deal was the free shuttle to the TransAlpine as we are not locals and hadn't picked up our hire car at that stage. Thanks Lena! :)
Will definitely stay here again. Spotlessly clean unit. Helpful, friendly staff. Handy to lots of eateries. Great location. So convenient to get dropped off and picked up for our Tranzalpine trip. Netflix to entertain us during our down time.
Only stayed one night here as we were between trains - Coastal Pacific and Tranzalpine, but in the circumstances proved just what we needed. The room was a good size, clean and tidy, offering a good size and quality bed, air conditioning, and, if you needed them, Freeview and Netflix. The staff were also lovely, providing a helpful free shuttle service to the TranzAlpine first thing in the morning.
A group of 17 of us stayed here . We are a Masters Hockey Team and in Christchurch for the National Masters Tournament at the end of February. The rooms were clean and well equipped. The towels were changed daily and our sheets were clean and crisp. We had access to washing machines and dryers/washing lines (vital as we needed to wash our gear after all our games!).
