The welcome was good considering it was very late, the room was splendid with a sitting room, fridge, cooker and all things necessary to self cater. The bedroom on the mezzanine floor was very comfortable. So far 4 star, BUT the bathroom was more suited to a YMCA, old style shower in a standard bath, loads of wasted space and...

Wonderful and grand hotel. The hallways and staircases really made you feel like you had gone back in time. Bed was probably too soft for my liking, felt like I was sinking into it but some would love that. A lovely bar and area out the front to enjoy a drink in the afternoon. We didn't eat there so can't...

Dear Narra72, Thank you for taking the time to comment on your recent stay at Heritage Christchurch. It is a pleasure to read that you enjoyed the facilities of the hotel. As part of Heritage's T.H.E. Sleep Experience - Heritage Christchurch introduced the “tranquil beds” early last year. Every suite has a tranquil bed with a plush mattress containing extra...

We have stayed at this hotel before mainly use it because of its central location. I am pleased to see handles on stair turn which certainly made it easier to go up and down. Friendly staff. Dining room not open every evening which we found unsuitable as you don't always want to go looking for restaurants. Quite clean and well...

The hotel is a the old government building now converted into a grand hotel. Our room was fabulous with high ceilings and well furnished with a very comfotable bed. Free wi fi was also very welcome. Unusually the bar was not managed by the hotel but that didnt distract it from being the coolest bar in Christchurch! All in all...

Love it. The pool, spa and sauna is good for relax after a long drive. Washing machine and dryer are provided in the room. The building has a lot of character. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Had an enjoyable stay here. Will definitely be back again.

We stayed here for 2 nights after a week's touring the Sth Island. Christchurch was a bit weird to drive into due to the demolishing and rebuilding work still being in the city. Checked in by Natalie who was very helpful and engaging. I'd booked a 2 bedroom suite which was on the 1st floor but facing a car park...

Four of us were travelling together. Two upstairs bedrooms and a narrow staircase. One bedroom large and the other quite small. Very small bath upstairs and larger bath downstairs also contained the laundry. This is an old rugged building that's withstood earthquakes and really has character. Rooms are ok and we would stay there again. Good location. What really stood...

This is the second time we have stayed in this historic hotel. The rooms are nice however there was no air con in our room (or any other room evidently) which made it quite uncomfortable at times in mid summer.

Dear Glenn K, Thank you for taking the time to place feedback on Trip Advisor subsequent to your recent stay. We are glad to hear that you found our rooms nice; we do find that the apartment style Suites, with the bedroom in the mezzanine level, are very popular for its large and unusual size. The Old Government Building that...

Stayed two nights in The Heritage on our first visit Christchurch. Room was a "duplex" which had a mezzanine floor added for the bedrooms in what was no doubt originally a very " high ceiling" room. Room was comfortable and well appointed although not luxurious. Amenities were ok and we had a kitchen if we needed and full washing machine....

We stayed here during the recent Christchurch earthquake, in a 2 bedroom new york style loft apartment. This is a beautiful building that is over 100 years old so rest assured it is sturdiest building to be in during an earthquake. Lovely interior furnishings that appear to be a modern take on the Victorian era. Neil, on the front desk,...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Christchurch is a long way from the Mediterranean - nevertheless, the opulence of an Italian High Renaissance Palazzo awaits you at the Heritage Christchurch. Designed by Joseph Clark Maddison and opened in 1913, the hotel is listed as a category one building on the Historic Places Trust Register, reflecting its status as a building of national significance. The hotel's grand design is fitting: after all, Christchurch is regarded as the Garden City, and is regarded internationally for its culture and refinement. ... more   less
