I've stayed at The YMCA on many occasions over a number of years occupying the standard rooms with shared bathrooms and the ensuite self contained rooms. Comfortable beds, pleasant decor. Some rooms have a view of the botanic gardens. Always very clean. Pleasant helpful staff. Handy to town, cafes and restaurants.

39 dollars is a lot to pay for a 4-bed dorm in a place that : - Has hundreds of beds on many stories hence absolutely no soul and the only staff around was at reception - Crammed kitchen with minimum equipment - Several bathrooms per floor but all very dirty in the evening (around 9 am they were clean...

Stayed for 1 night and I got private double bed. It's on the top of building with Botanical garden view. Bathroom is clean and have enough space for relaxing. Kitchen is on 2nd fl quite small and fridge is very limited, too small for everyone' stuffs. However, overall is in good range!

Stayed 2 nights, quite dated but still standing. It's what you would expect from a YMCA Had my own room -shower,toilet, tv, fridge, coffee and tea making. Really good and effecent staff. My room had missing blinds, and could do with double glazing as street noise quite loud during the night. Still can't understand why all accomadation doesn't have free wifi...

Not very good value for money at all, we paid $33 for a 4 bed 'bunk' dorm whilst another friend of ours paid $32 for a 3 bed single dorm?! One kitchen for the whole hostel is not fun at all especially with one fridge! Bathroom was filthy; sticky, no soap, old wet towels and bathmats and general dirt on...

Ideal location, right next to the botanic gardens and museum and a very short walk to all other sights and restaurants. I doubt you could find accomodation in a better location within Christchurch than the YMCA. Fabulous coffee downstairs at Robert Harris cafe. We stayed in a deluxe private room with a private bathroom and balcony and were thoroughly impressed....

Stayed on the way back up towards Auckland with the Kiwi Experience, and though a lot of reviews here call it dated and what-not, I felt that there was more to it than just the room which promoted my rating. Location-wise you're in the best place, about 10 minutes walk to ChCh centre and next to Hagley Park with Riccarton...

Ideal location, just down the street from the Canterbury Museum and bus stop. Convenient shuttle (NZ 5) to train station for Transalpine. Clean double room. Communal showers and toilets were outdated and not too clean. Staff was very efficient and friendly, however, noise level in the rooms was quite loud late into the night due to inconsiderate guests. Wifi available...

We stayed in a twin room. The room was clean, so no complains there. The shared bathroom was a bit old dated and no so clean. YMCA's location is its positive point. They are right in front of the park and a walking distance to any other important place to visit in Christchurch. All in all, a bit overpriced for...

The in-house gym was great, for only $5! Staff were very helpful. The only negative was the rooms. They were very old fashioned. Good location for the centre and bus terminals. Make sure you check out the 'no hassle' open top bus tour, just opposite YMCA

Thank you very much for your feedback. Great to hear you enjoyed the gym. In terms of the rooms, we are currently working on a plan to update our facilities. The refurbishment will start mid this year with bathrooms and rooms - so watch this space, it will be exciting.
