Great place to stop in Christchurch. Well equipped clean room and helpful staff. Useful to have on site parking which needs to be booked in advance. Reception staff gave us some useful tips on the sights worth seeing and pretty good value for money.
Excellent location near downtown, supermarket and restaurants. Choice of different apartments with central garden for outdoor seating. I booked the cheapest apartment and this was small, so better pay a bit more for more space. Staff is really helpful, I had a small issue and this was solved immediately. Laundry is available.
The photos indicate that this is a standard motel with ample parking. Dont be fooled. Check the fine print buried in the advertisment. We arrived and their was no parking. The solution offered was that there was paid parking on the roadside, which had all been taken. There was no where to park in the immediate vicinity. We went to another motel. The cancellation cost me a $180 and booking.com have been usless in helping to mediate. I was told that the motel could not cancel the booking beacuse I used the Booking.com app. I will avoid this as much as possible in the future as it allows poor operators to avoid accountability. The operators explaination was that the parking issue is notified in the webpage txt. It is but it is buried in the fineprint. They also cover it off in the confirmation note. It stipulated that parking is limited. Not that I read confimation emails only the headlines (more fool me). In truth I had driven for 5 hours, was tired and lost my temper (more fool me). Summary check the fine print cause these people dont give a toss.…
Excellent tranquil location , with multiple size apartments set around a central quadrangle of garden with outdoor seating.. A functional kitchen allows for self catering with a supermarket close by or enjoy meals from varied cuisine restaurants all within walking distance. A 10 minute walk to the major shopping centre plus bus terminal makes for a great central setting. A laundry is also available for guests withing the complex.
I booked a compact apartment as it was on the ground floor as I couldn't manage the stairs, plus the price was reasonable. It's also a very rare place to stay that is easily accessible by foot to public transport (less than 10 mins to the bus interchange) and only a few minutes to 2 supermarkets, ie cheap food. If you don't drive, or have access to a car, these are things that have to be considered. The room was perfectly adequate for a single person, I think a couple would find it hard with the double bed being up against the window. Great shower, and the kitchenette with microwave, mini-fridge/freezer, and toaster meant being able to save some money on meals. The downside to sharing a room with a fridge is the noise they make, so if you're a light sleeper then you might want some earplugs. These rooms don't have A/C but they have a fan, and the windows open slightly. I'm not sure I'd want to be there during a heatwave. Bed extremely comfortable. The reception staff were very welcoming and helpful when I had a request. While the location is excellent, as a single female I wouldn't walk alone in that area after dark, but have made that same risk assessment in a number of cities. I will definitely stay there again. (Tip: there's a bus stop for the No.3 bus just a block over, closer than the interchange. That bus goes to Sumner beach, botanical gardens, hospital and the airport. Saves a walk :)…
Clean and well located to explore Christchurch. Get the larger rooms, they have all that you need. Located next to the Salt District which is handy. Rooms serviced daily. Great Cafe on hand to meet all your breakfast and lunch needs also. Will be back.
The female staff members I dealt with demonstrated fantastic customer service skills - the males not so much. I loved that they were able to organise an early check-in and were generally very accommodating. My room (2nd floor of building A - one on the left) was small but perfect for one person even if I did have to squeeze around the bed to open/close curtains and windows. I was lucky to have a desk and chair as colleagues of mine missed out. I liked that there was a toaster, access to a modern laundry and communal spaces to cook and eat your own meals and relax. I wouldn't have liked to have had to share the room with another person. It really was a one person room - even down to the size of the teeny tiny basin in the bathroom (I had to put my toilet bag on the kitchen bench). The lift is hard case (I think they call a moving floor an elevator?) but did the job. (If it hadn't I was stuffed.) There are a number of fantastic cafes and restaurants in the area, including the one at the bottom of the garden, and if you want a bath there's an open one in the garden too! Location in general is awesome with a tram stop 5 minutes walk up the road, either walk (10 minutes) into the CBD or Uber for under $10. Two (or 3?) supermarkets in easy walking distance. Yes, the location does mean there is a bit of early morning noise (e.g. rubbish truck), but that's to be expected of the location and I didn't find it an issue. The bed was reasonably comfortable - by no means the worst I have slept in, although I would have liked a couple of smaller (lower?) pillows. There was a heat pump in my room and an extra woolen style blanket so nice and warm. Now for the BUT..... I was there from Wed - Sat. Great nights' sleep on the first two nights. I barely got 2 hours on the Friday night because there was loud music coming from across the road. It was extremely noisy from before I went to bed and lasted until 10 minutes after my alarm went off at 7.15am. Yip - all night. Boom boom boom. I THINK it was reduced a bit around 2am, but it was turned up again around 6am. You'll need industrial ear plugs because the disposable ones I tried (that my husband uses in factories) made absolutely no difference. I phoned reception where I had a peculiar Monty Python type conversation with the male on duty "What noise he says?". In the end I decided that maybe management had told him that if anyone ever phones about the noise he should act ignorant "Don't mention the war/noise". Obviously the owners can't help the odd noisy party but I looked back in the reviews and others had also noticed the loud noise. Who knows if the residents on the Friday night were unlucky, or if it's like that every Friday (and Saturday) night because, the receptionist didn't seem to hear it? So - my recommendation is to stay there during the week but give it a big miss on the weekends unless you like staying awake all night (on the plus side - I did read a whole book while lying awake),…
I booked 4 nights and was not informed that my room was on the ground floor. The tiny apartment felt unsafe and the very narrow hall was open to a foyer which opens right on the street. Anybody can walk right in. The windows have loose latches with no locks! I was unhappy to hear people walking outside my room and asked to be moved to an upper floor. Two young staff argued with me when U expressed concern! Finally we negotiated an upgrade fee to a better room, which I felt unfair. Although the rooms are very nicely appointed and clean, I was disappointed in the lack of concern for my safety.
The room was on the second floor but the lift was out of order. Had to drag my bag up the stairs. The room had no where to sit and do my paperwork or use laptop. So not really ideal for a business trip. Handy to Little High eatery nd other eateries.
This hotel has so many accom options. Again, I initially booked as a single traveller. I then upgraded for my, mobility challenged Mum, to join me. The ground floor, 2 bed apartment we upgraded to was perfect for Mum and I. Good central location, parking is tight but doable, and 24 hour staff welcoming. It has some quirks with the bathroom and back bedroom not having any windows but felt like an oasis in the city.
