What a great stay! Checking in was a breeze and completed in seconds, within a minute of walking through the front door I was in the lift on my way to my room. The room was a reasonable size and extremely clean with an extremely comfortable bed. The buffet breakfast was excellent and dinner at Bloody Mary’s did not disappoint. Overall I cannot fault my stay at Rydges Latimer and highly recommend a stay.

As an occasional visitor to Christchurch picking a good hotel has become a challenge, so why Rydges? This was not my first choice, but I discovered my loyalty program hotel in the CBD does not participate in the current members’ discount incentives, so priced itself out.
This was a one night stopover after a early departing flight into NZ before heading south, so location to the rental car building, the CBD and being quiet were important. In the end having stayed here before, as well as the old Rydges, and being close to rental cars was the decider.
Friendly staff and no issues with the hotel, but it is expanding, so building issues may impact, but not us. Room was ready on arrival so my wife was able to have a rest whilst I heading into town. Easy walk to CBD and the dining area later for dinner, then again in the morning. No problem storing luggage.
Would use again, unless catching the scenic rail journeys which depart very early and are beyond the other side of the city.

We stayed here for a night at the start of our trip around the South Island, and 3 nights at the end, having previously stayed there a couple of years ago.

This is a modern and comfortable hotel, very well-located on a leafy square and only a 10 minute walk into the City Centre. The hotel also has a complimentary carpark on site.

The rooms are comfortably furnished and well equipped, and have a good sized bathroom.

Staff in the hotel are generally friendly and helpful, and do their best to make your stay comfortable. There is a guest laundry at the hotel, which is very useful when on a touring holiday. There is also a very small gym and sauna although we didn't use these during our stay.

The hotel has a very comfortable bar where they also serve a good selection of bar meals, if you don't want to dine in the more formal "Bloody Mary's" restaurant which is excellent and which specialises in a wide range of steak meals. Breakfast in the restaurant is particularly good, with a wide selection of hot and cold food, fresh fruits, pastries etc.

This hotel is a good choice for anyone wanting a good standard of accommodation, close to the CBD but in a pleasant leafy location.

Have stayed here once before for a couple of days and had a great experience. Hence we decided to stay a little longer as part of our holiday, this time round (as a Priority Rewards member) our experience was very disappointing.

We booked for 5 nights, and have to say the servicing of our room each day was appalling. (Used coffee cups not cleaned daily, used wine glasses not cleaned overnight, no shampoo/conditioner replacements daily, no replacement toilet paper, and the final straw was a completely un-made bed after day 4.

Made visit to the duty manager, who told me they contract the cleaning out. Appears there is no supervision of the cleaning staff’s work once completed. We were told that our room would be given the top brass treatment and the servicing of it would be supervised by the cleaning contracts manager. Came back on our final day and the room was impeccable and exactly as one would expect from a hotel of this caliber.

Can’t help but think we wouldn’t have been the only ones who experienced such poor room servicing.

Ordered snacks (chips) from the restaurant and a cheese board. What we were supplied was also underwhelming. $8 for a bowl of chips and there must have been about a dozen chips in total. The cheese platter provided had too few crackers for the cheese supplied. When we asked for extra crackers, initially, we were advised we would have to pay extra for those.

So, needless to say, we did not dine there anymore after that. Chch has any fantastic eateries on offer that provide far better quality service and food than Rydges Chch.

We purchased a 2-night luxury package in this hotel which comes with daily breakfast, a bottle of wine and some dining credit. A couple of days before arrival, we received a phone call from the hotel asking our wine varietal preference which was a very nice, thoughtful touch. Check-in was very quick and friendly, but nothing was mentioned about the inclusion of daily breakfast, the times and the venue where to avail this, nor the room credit included in our stay. We had to ask for these details later. Nothing major but it would have been nice if this was proactively explained to us, as opposed to asking for these rather important pieces information. The bottle of wine was already waiting in the room, though this was different from our preference. This was not a problem as our preference is quite broad and we can tolerate different varietals, and so are happy to try the Marlborough wine waiting in the room. The biggest issue that we had was due to Covid-19 restrictions, they were not making up rooms, changing towels, or refilling toiletries. Although we only stayed for two nights, this was certainly not an issue had we been told that none of these basic services were being provided. Again, it's all about attention to detail and communicating with the guests about certain inclusions of your stay and services your hotel does or doesn't provide during the stay. Breakfast at Bloody Marys Restaurant was excellent, perhaps the highlight of our stay in this hotel. Overall, a great value but certain aspects of service need to improve.

My wife and I wanted to spend the saturday night in town (we live in the country) for her birthday. I have always enjoyed Rydges and always sty at Rydges in AKL and Wellington. I paid the extra for the premium suite to spoil her.

Yes, the room is big. Yes, the bed was comfortable. And yes, the room was clean.

The service was great, no problem there. We also had some drinks at Bloody Marys and that was great as well.

To have breakfast included in the room rate it was another $100 so we declined that offer.

My disappointment was that there was no mini bar and the milk was just the UHT stuff. The decaf coffee is Moccona bran but the normal coffee was a cheap horrible one that we tipped out.

Big couch but no cushions. My wife has short legs and the couch was no comfortable for her.
There is no heating in the bedroom and the heart from the lounge did not flow through to the bedroom.
And my biggest issue was the placement of the door stop by the toilet. If you go to the loo in the night and don't want to get blasted by the bright light then you stub your toe on the door stop. Maybe an above door stop would be better. Or a night light.

We stayed one night. The room was spacious and well equipped. We got a good nights sleep!
The included breakfast was very good - one of the best we had in any of the many hotels we have stayed in during our tour of NZ.
We used the self-service laundry which is useful on long tours and an added bonus was the free car parking.

Decided to do something local for my wifes birthday so found a great deal online for a 2 night package. 2 nights in a Superior room, cooked breakfast for both mornings, bottle of wine in our room and $15 dining and drinks voucher which cost all up $255 which was a fantatsic price. Our room although large seemed a bit sparce of furniture but was clean and comfortable. We ate at the bar on Friday night which was outstanding but unfortunately our meal at their resturant "Bloody Marys " on Saturday night was disappointing. We have eaten there several times before and found it to be really nice as they specialise in steak meals but the 2 fillets that we ordered where both tiny for around $50 per meal and the steaks where not cooked to how we had ordered them. They offered us a free dessert to compensate but this was terrible as well. It was dry tastless polenta cake and just looked unappealing and lacking any finess. Even at breakfast they didn't listen to what we had ordered and we had to ask several times for the remaining items we had ordered. Overall I was disappointed especually with our meal at Bloody Marys.

We arrived here by the Tranz Alpine train so we did not have a car.
Chose this hotel as it was close to bus stops to get to airport after our stay and that it had an attached restaurant called "Bloody Marys"
It was my husbands birthday so it was really great we were given a free upgrade. The room wasn't much different to what I had booked, but I was told it was more modern as had been updated. Everthing was very clean with a nice bathroom with big vanity bench and plenty of towels that were changed every day. The King bed was super comfy and the little round glass table with 2 sofa chairs were lovely to relax in.
The restaurant had excellent quality food and staff were very attentive. My husband was given a free birthday drink and on return to our room was a chilled bottle of wine in an ice bucket, complements of the hotel.
The parking is free if you have a car.
We would stay here again.

Will be back, but will ask for "Not the Worcester Street Side".

Very enjoyable stay. Friendly and efficient staff.

Disliked · Avoid the South side on Worcester Street.
The owner or manager should stay in a room on that side and they would arrange for the rubbish to be collected at a civil time. Not 6.00 am on a Saturday morning. They would also get the suppliers to be quieter with their deliveries and not shout at each other at 6.30 am on a Saturday morning.

I have stayed here several Times and the parking is fairly generous. Depending on the size of your camper van i would say you would fit!

I am not aware of a free hotel shuttle but taxis are usually easy to catch and the distance is not too far. if there are five of you I would contact blue bubble taxis over the internet or ask the hotel to arrange one for you and ask for a taxi van. the cost will probably be less than a shuttle per person when you have 5 people. although i travel for business I wouldn't contemplate another option and wouldn't use either a shuttle or bus unless I couldn't get a taxi van. nz taxis are generally pretty honest and will be metered so no fare shenanigans.
