Have stayed at the Rydges before and enjoyed it so we stayed longer this time. You have to try the restaurant Bloody Marys. We ate there both night and it was outstanding. The hotel staff are awesome. So friendly and helpful. Rooms are immaculate.

We had a spacious room, extremely clean, at the time of writing, there is a shortage of staff and your room is not serviced (unless you ask for it) until you check out, change of towels are plentiful if you ask. This did not distract from our stay. Their in-house restaurant called “Bloody Mary’s” has a lovely feel to be in, buffet breakfast, have to say dinner is a highlight with wonderful food, not to be missed, you do have to book early as it is often booked out. Overall a great stay, with friendly staff and great surroundings, lots of parking available onsite.

A solid place to stay just outside of the Christchurch CBD. Rooms are spacious, there is free parking on site and the steak house restaurant on the premises is great. I would recommend this hotel. If again in Christchurch, I would certainly stay here.

We chose to stay at Rydges and dine at Bloody Mary's for a special occasion. Once again, a delightful stay. Warm, welcoming and accommodating staff both in the hotel and restaurant. Special treats were appreciated as we were celebrating a significant Wedding Anniversary. Always our "go to" when in Christchurch.

The room was great. The location was great. The staff was not so good. We asked them for a recommendation for a restaurant nearby that served seafood. They looked at each other with blank faces and said they didn't know. They were both new. But one of them recommended we go to Fisherman's Wharf, which was not close by but we did go as we didn't have any other recommendations. We were subsequently violently ill from food poisoning. This was not the service I would expect from a 4* hotel. We lost 2 days of our holiday.

We stayed there twice during our holiday and found the rooms very comfortable and well equipped. Unfortunately, it was always very cold on the ground floor - reception/bar/dining room. We also observed on both occasions that the bar manager was rude - both to us and his staff. I hope this has been dealt with.

Nice modern hotel located opposite a park and an easy walk to downtown sites. The hotel is very popular with tour groups so can get crowded and busy at times. Good sized room nicely furnished with a king sized mattress, although it’s two mattresses put together. The bathroom has a large walk in shower. However the shower door does not close property so water flows over the floor. The toilet is inconveniently behind the bathroom door. The free wifi is fast enough for streaming. The TV station selection is average although there are a couple of movie channels & news channels but the local channels. Breakfast, in the main restaurant, had a good selection of hot & cold foods and was included in my room rate. The restaurant is a cross between a sports bar and a steak house. Meals are on the pricey side. The staff are friendly & helpful. Nice stay, nothing special, but good value for money & conveniently located.…

We arrived after a trip on the train from Greymouth after 6pm. Checked in with a pleasant enough staff member, but absolutely no customer service - no information about breakfast, or asking if we needed directions, if we'd been to Christchurch before? Just simple things that make you feel welcome. Room comfortable, not overly spacious. Bathroom well appointed. Breakfast is served in their restaurant on the ground floor. Very busy at times with bus loads of tourists staying at the hotel. Overflow for breakfast diners is in the bar area, however this is not set up at all to cater for patrons - no set tables, not condiments, no staff! And then you have to walk backwards & forwards to get your food - and the food was not being restocked at any sort of pace - kitchen not organised or struggling to keep up.
