The Bealey Quarter is a mixture of different types of accommodations. We had a one bedroom in the lodge. It was as expected. The taxi driver had trouble finding the address. One good amenity was the laundry & boy was it ever nice to get our laundry cleaned.

This hotel has two different areas to stay at. I’ve stayed at THE STUDIOS room, which was clean, well appointed, modern and comfortable. There is a very nice restaurant/bar on premises. The hotel is somewhat further from city center- about 25 minutes walk.

We found the motel really comfortable and with excellent facilities including a decent bar / restaurant - which was also good value for money. We stayed in a suite which was well equipped but very small. Our room also faced the road so the traffic noise is quite loud - so try and request a room off the road! Overall a great value for money motel which we enjoyed.

Stayed in the lodge part of the hotel which I wouldn’t recommend, can’t comment on the other hotel areas. Appeared nice from the outside and the room was clean and basic. However, although advertised as having air con there was none - only a fan. This made the room unbearably hot and at some points the whole building had an unpleasant smell. No lift in the building which meant we had to carry heavy suitcases up a large flight of stairs which was not ideal. Would definitely avoid in the height of summer.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback. Just to let you that we have air conditioners in the Studio's rooms just in case it's a hot day and you would like to book the studios. Sorry for the confusion, the air conditioner is only advertised in the studio's rooms and not for the lodge. We are incredibly grateful for your feedback and will use this to implement new measures. Thank you TJ

This hotel, bar, and restaurant is really two different entities, or so it seems. I stayed there on two separate occasions during my South Island tour with Haka Tours. The first stay was in THE STUDIOS which are very modern and comfortable rooms in a separate building facing the bar/restaurant building entrance. Rooms are nice, clean, and pretty much what you would want for a brief stay as you travel. My second stay in the last days of my New Zealand tour, was in THE LODGE which is tucked away behind the parking lot and main building, looks like a new addition, shoddily built of plywood and seems to be almost like a hostel. Clearly for backpackers, this dormitory setting includes single rooms up to 8-person rooms with bunk beds. There was a communal bathroom, a tiny “lobby” where travelers huddled around small tables with phones or laptops while waiting by the coin-operated washers/dryers. My room did have a bathroom but, compared to The Studio, seemed cheaply constructed, and lacked amenities. I was surprised that my tour company put us in this accommodation and that this low-end hostel even existed in association with what I believed to be a nice hotel. The bar is very nice, with a great vibe. The restaurant is small and feels like a coffee shop, not a restaurant. The limited dinner menu is comprehensive and the food looked good. The breakfast menu was weird. A limited but nice menu was offered for an extra price starting mid-NZ$20 and up. The included “continental” breakfast for tour patrons or for purchase as a backpacker was a joke. Small boxes of cereal (like when you were a kid), a coffee machine that was constantly broken during both my stays, a basket of jelly packages, white bread slices next to a toaster, juice, and yogurt cups. Depending on your travel style, comfort or subsistence, be aware of how you book your stay here. By the way, Bealey Quarter is not near any stores or interesting sites that aren’t at least 10 to 15 minutes away on foot.

A lovely clean hostel with friendly staff. After staying in hotels with friends for the previous nights, I was apprehensive about going back to staying in a dorm but this was a really nice place! The room was spacious and had clean bedding and towels. My dorm of 8 beds had a patio door leading outside and was close to the communal bathrooms and kitchen which were all very clean!

This place needs to do much better with providing parking for guests paying for accommodation. I was there for 4 nights recently, and could not find parking on-site on three out of the 4 nights. It's not good enough to have to park in neighbouring streets, at times, not even directly outside the motel.

Hi there, We are very sorry to read of your disappointing experience with us. We have limited parking available during peak times and weekends. It’s on a first-in-first-served basis and our bar may also be busy. If you do not manage to find a park onsite, alternative parking is available nearby on Packe Street. We are incredibly grateful for your feedback and will use this to implement new measures. We look forward to hosting you again! Thanks TJ

Here in Christchurch on business and was expecting peace and quiet as the rooms were away from the road. All was well until a number of teenagers stayed as they were playing at a football tournament. The adults had no control over the teenagers they were running up and down corridors shouting making a horrendous noise up until late at night. The reception was told about the noise but nothing done. Got back to the hotel room on the last evening at 8pm and found my door wide open with a door wedge holding it open. Presumably the cleaners had left it open. Passport etc etc plus valuables left in my bag in my room so not very happy at all !!! I won’t be staying here again.

It was my first time go to NZ and Christchurch is my first stop. I wrote note " I will check in after midnight" when I did booking as my flight is very late from Australia. However, the taxi driver left after drove there, I was by myself at 1:00am dragging the luggage and could not find anyone in the office. I walked around in the darkness and found the Reception but nobody inside. It was cold and very late. I just arrived to another country and do not have local mobile phone network. I could not make a call. It was so scary. I first time had this experience, felt so hopeless, almost to cry. I could not do anything until I had to take a risk to knock the next door of a small hostel. Luckily, a young guy came out and helped me to call that hotel. There was a letter and room key in a box outside with the password. I do not understand why they did not try to contact me and gave me the instruction before my arrival. Hate it.
