Huge rooms, economic prices, in the right place so you easily walk to local pubs, restaurants and even the stadium, cricket ground. Plus a 24 hour dairy right across the road. They don't built them like they use to. Need any more endorsement?

This motel was conveniently located. However, the family units (2 bedroom with kitchen) are all located upstairs. Not only that, the second bedroom is on a mezzanine up a very steep flight of stairs with no handrail. We had a teenager so that was fine but if you have younger kids, that won't work. The open plan of the second... More

We stayed two nights in a unit here. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was on the second floor. Our room was large with an open plan mezzanine floor with two single beds upstairs. At one stage I thought the toilet was flushing by itself but it must have been someone in the unit below having a shower.... More

Central location in Dunedin close to the Octagon. Easy to find but is call Alcala Lodge now so Econo is no where to be seen on the signage. It has good WiFi, interesting Spanish architecture with round windows and doors, a loft for the two younger kids up stairs. The staff was friendly, car parking was free.

Our room was huge with a decent kitchen which had a hob, fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster. Very handy. Parking was fine. The room looked a bit more dated with frilly bed covers but it was fine and really clean. Location was handy- near town. One annoying thing was that you had to pay for the internet- we found this to... More

Stayed 3 nights here with family. We had upstairs room with mezzanine. Although room was very dated it was clean. It was fairly spacious and was kind of quirky with a separate dining area. We found it very cold as it doesn't really have any decent heating. We ended up with 3 heaters going just to take chill off the... More

I was entranced by the art deco era decor of Alcala Motel. It is magnificent. Unit 12 is one of the larger units perfect for family groups visiting their student sons and daughter. Close to the university and the township. Everything we needed was there, the beds were comfortable, the room was warm and the hosts were warmly welcoming and... More

We have stayed at the Alcala many times over the past 23 years and Gary and his team have always been extremely helpful and will go the extra mile. This time was no exception. The rooms are very spacious especially the family units. This is a great place to stay if the kids are at uni. It is a 10... More

As we waited at reception for someone to appear the musty smell in there was really off putting, however when the man eventually appeared and showed us to our room that was even worse, there was a terrible smell of cooking, holes in the carpet and the furniture was in need of a major upgrade. the sheets on the bed...
