Every once in a while you come across someone truly amazing; Cherie is that person. Everything was booked due to the flooding. I had an early morning flight and was lucky to even get to Invercargil. I called and Cherie confirmed she didn't have anything but she offered to check around and call back. She had no luck and was sending out an email to other hotels for possible no-shows. When that didn't work she offered a room that was getting ready for painting. She called in a helper to make up the room, added a TV, warmed the kettle, and added cookies and sweets. This was 8pm! I cried and gave her a hug. She had no idea that we had been soaking at a campsite for a week in Te Anau, we had numerous detours because of overflowing rivers, or that I was leaving because my dad was literally dying. She was just a wonderful person being helpful. The room was perfect and warm and the bed; glorious. Picked up Chinese across the street at Ascot and that was great! I will never forget her and will direct anyone going to Invercargil to stay there or just say hi to this wonderful person if you're passing through.

Oh .. I’m really so touched by your review. You both had such an awful time of it all - and the news about your dad was so heartbreaking - especially with you being so far away. It’s truly devastating when your dealt a blow like that! I’m so glad we were able to help in such a small way. And I’m so humbled that it meant enough to you, that you would take time to write such lovely words. Would love to hear from you and hopefully we will meet up again. Stay safe, happy and well our wonderful overseas friends xx

Arrived earlier than we planned but no problem and was shown to our room. Really nice, well presented with everything we needed. Lovely ladies at reception and cleaning staff even straightened up our poor attempt of bed making each morning. We picked a studio unit that was upstairs which was not an issue for us. Our room had a microwave, jug, toaster and was warm and cosy. Was great that our stay coincided with a craft show just down the road so managed to take home some treats. Would definitely recommend.

Hi there, Noticed your crayfish pic ... WOW!!! Thank you very much for you feedback. We have recently renovated the upstairs studios and just have the 3 left to complete. Still need to 'dress' them out - paintings/prints, new cutlery/crockery etc .. but all coming together. Hope to see you again! Cheers Cherie

Thanks very much for your feedback. Hope you both managed to find some more goodies on the way back! Some of the 'off the main drag' little places are fantastic for finding local produce, arts and crafts. Will see you Burt Munro week !! Let's keep our fingers crossed for long, hot, summery days during it. Cheers

Where do I start! My room was damp, dark and cold. It was in a courtyard so even though its early summer, there was no natural light. The courtyard was used by smokers so having my door open for a few minutes meant my room smelled of smoke. The internet would not work in my room and the managers solution was for me to sit in reception. I had over two hours of paper work to complete. She then spent twenty minutes in my room trying to solve the internet issue, even took the ipad to the owners house. To no avail. My room had no iron, no soap, no coffee, no hairdryer. The bed was old and uncomfortable. The shower had a lot of mould in the corners. The floor was quite uneven. I would not recommend this motel at all, its a joke and should be condemned and pulled down. Even more of a joke to have a notice on the wall, warning of charges for smoking in the room, when the smokers sit in the courtyard and then spend lots of time in your room anyway!

Hi Christine. I'm sorry you've had such a bad experience during your stay. You have raised some important issues, that I have discussed at length with staff today. The smoking area in our open courtyard hasn't been an issue in the past, but completely understand that on this occasion it definitely was for you. I'm a non smoker and can't stand smelling it - let alone having it waft into a room I'm spending time in! Unfortunately, I had just arrived back from A & E (misjudged the front stairs) and was nursing a very sore blue/black food when I was phoned to see if I could help you connect through your ipad - otherwise I would have attended to you personally. All our motel and studio units have access to the wifi - with extenders front and courtyard. The evening receptionist said you were able to access it on your laptop - but not your ipad. This would point to the ipad having an issue and not the wifi 'reception'. Unit amenities such as irons/ironing boards, hairdryers and other bits and bobs are always available on request (as advertised on all booking platforms). We don't leave them in units as they 'walk' and being a small business, the added expense of replacing them is something we try to avoid. Chasing guests down to return them or charge them, costs us far more than the $50 - $100 they cost to replace. I'd love you to stay again - free of charge and on us, when our renovations are completed. We welcome constructive criticism - it challenges us to do better and be better. Our freephone : 0508 426 224 is available for you to call to speak with me if you'd like - as the more information I have allows me to make changes where I need to. Thank you. Cherie
