Obviously a spectacular location; I had a view from my room directly onto Mitre Peak. What’s wonderful about staying here is that once it’s evening, all the tourists are gone and you really have the place to yourself. The hotel itself is maybe a 3-star, but its location makes up for it.

Medium sized (max capacity 75) boat so that you see more and get personalized treatment. Had a great cruise and the captain even diverted for close-up of different dolphin species. Look for competitive prices online before the trip and if time is flexible, check weather for best experience.

Its an old building which has been refurbished but still the 'old' remains and is evident as you approach and walk in the building. As soon as I walked in it reminded me of the Overlook Hotel out of the classic movie The Shining with black and white historical photos on the walls. The lodge has prime position right on Milford Sound, you cannot think of a better place to stay in terms of getting 180 degree views across the lake and seeing Mitre peak in all its glory. On the day we visited and when the sun setted, it seriously looked like a picture from Lord of the Rings - Two towers with the sun creating a volcanic like light in the low clouds - truly a memorable and

This was previously a TYHC government hotel and while it is a little tired, the food and drinks were good. The staff were quite helpful. Some type of internet access would have been helpful. GREAT VIEWS>
