We stayed in the house, where Bob and Maxine are living, because the bachpacker's house was full. We shared the bathroom with one other room and our bed was very comfortable. Everything is impecably clean, because the owners take a lot of care and put a lot of work into everything. The kitchen is very well equipped and they light...

What can I say, I've been in plenty of hostels but this one takes the cake... views, huge and peaceful lounge room, free bikes, free icecream, clean, friendly, free laundry, plenty of books and maps... bob was very friendly and explained everything to us

Thanks for the great review guys. Towards the end of the season we need some positive feedback. To respond to the issue of there being no hot water: The hot water comes from two gas califonts powered by two huge LPG tanks. What happened on Monday night is one of the guests was fiddling around with the cylinder's getting the...

It was the best hostel in my whole NZ trip! The hostel was very clean & shiny , big kitchen, big living room with comfortable sofas. Free laundry, free bicycles. It was a perfect place to rest after hikes in a rural atmosphere. Bob & Naxine who run this hostel are like caring grandparents, very lovely people!

Bob and Maxine's was by far the best backpackers we have stayed in and we don't expect to find anywhere that surpasses it! It has a charm all of its own with the wonderful views through the common area and of course because of the hospitality of the hosts. We had an unfortunate car accident which meant getting to this...

Bob and Maxine's is by far the nicest hostel I've stayed in with respects to location and communal space. The communal space is very homey, covered with flags and filled with couches and chairs surrounding a nice wood burning heater. The kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms are all very nice as well. Bob and Maxine are both very quirky. I traveled...

Sorry guys I must have been having a bad day & let my sarcasm loose . We do find the big groups can be a challenge & to be fair I did have to clean up after your folks several times to maintain our very high standards. We almost never raise these issues just roll up our sleeves & get...

Me and my elderly mum stayed here for 4 nights and we loved every single day there. Everything was perfect - the house, the room, the bathroom, the kitchen and the fireplace. Maxine (Bob was away hiking) is the most beautiful woman we have ever met - her character contributes to her beauty and also in her home. She takes...

Although technically this is a backpackers, it felt more like a B&B. Both Bob and Maxine were friendly and helpful, suggesting places to eat and things to do in the area. We didn't end up staying in the hostel, but in the house, as the hostel was very full. We were lucky enough to have our own private bathroom and...

The great thing about backpacking is that you get to see so many wonderful places and Milford Sounds was certainly at the top of my list. But sometimes you just need to slow down for a minute and reflect. The comfort of Bob and Maxine's allowed me to take that rest. I was able to kick up my feet and...
