Hotel's Favourite
Crystalbrook has got it right on with customer service. My wife and I stayed there Saturday night, and we were not disappointed at all
Service was friendly with plenty of rooms.
The hotel was clean and comfortable. We stayed only one night, so I couldn't vouch for a more prolonged stay.

Perfect stay over the Easter long weekend. Staff were helpful and attentive. Our room was modern and well appointed. Room service was prompt. The iPad based system for ordering room service and requiring assistance worked well. Loved the decor. The complimentary filtered water stations on each floor was greatly appreciated.
Location is great for accessing everything Newcastle has to offer. It’s a very short walk from the Civic light rail stop to the hotel. We could get to the beach so quickly and it was very convenient to access the shops (and Maccas) via the light rail.
We will be back!!

Welcome by warm friendly staff, who were so very helpful. The king size bed was Luxurious, the linen felt divine, the bathroom design was brilliant which included a wonderful rain shower as well as hand held shower.
Bar, restaurant views, food and friendly staff all amazing. Breakfast, buffet had so much good food, everything you could possibly ever think of plus we could request eggs freshly cooked by chef. We enjoyed the fresh fruit, followed by cooked breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, tomatoes, the list goes on, then coffee and croissants, with best jams.
We stayed to attend show next door at Civic Theatre, great reason for get away and alternative to State Theatre in Sydney. Express train and tram to almost to the front door. So easy and enjoyable to getaway to Newcastle, with so much to see and do. Book your seat at the bar for sunset drinks, it's worth it.

We arrived at 2pm on Saturday 23 November and parked on the street(free weekend parking after12 on Saturdays). We had with us a large birthday cake and The Receptionist Crystal was nice enough to put it in their cool room. We were happy with our stay in a twin bed room which had very comfortable beds and pillows. The bathroom and toilet are separated by a frosted glass with is not see thru. The breakfast had a good view and food was fine except I hate the pay for a coffee if you do not want the machine one I think 1st one should be free. Checking in and out both staff where friendly and efficient. Great stay will return to stay on our next visit to Newcastle.

The Chrystalbrook Kingsley is a welcome addition to the choice of quality hotels now available in Newcastle. It's very good, but it does have some minor shortcomings that lowers its rating from a level of excellence.
Firstly, the positives. The hotel is well located and is within walking distance of all the main points of interest in the Newcastle CBD, Honeysuckle Wharf and the Darby Street precinct. The rooms are quiet, well equipped and have comfortable beds. The staff are also very friendly, efficient and accommodating with their responses to questions and requests.
The hotel is located in the re-purposed council offices. This is a circular building which results in the rooms being pie shaped around a central core. Thus, whilst there is good use of space within the rooms, they aren't as spacious as similarly priced hotels.
I also found it surprising that I was unable to have a nightcap in one of the hotel's bars as these had closed by 8.30pm.
Finally, at $50 per night, I thought the valet parking was a bit pricey for a non-capital city location.
Given the use of an existing building, there isn't much that could be done regarding room sizes, but I think keeping the bars open later and reducing parking costs would be good first steps in improving the experience.

Dear Mark S, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent stay at Crystalbrook Kingsley. We are pleased to hear that you found the hotel to be well-located and that you enjoyed the comfort of our rooms and the friendly service provided by our staff. We appreciate your constructive comments regarding the room size, the operating hours of our bars, and the cost of valet parking. We understand that these aspects impacted your overall experience, and we will certainly take them into consideration as we continue to improve our offerings. Regarding the room size, we do acknowledge the unique layout of our property due to its re-purposed council office's structure. However, we are constantly looking for ways to maximize the space and comfort within the rooms. In regard to the operating hours of our bars, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We will review our current policies to ensure that our guests can enjoy a nightcap at their convenience. As for the valet parking cost, our pricing is in line with the value we aim to provide to our guests, as well as the nearby options. We truly value your feedback as it helps us to identify areas for improvement. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide you with an even better experience. I recently stayed here expecting a 5-star experience, but it was incredibly disappointing. First off, the valet parking was a joke—there wasn’t any! Instead, the reception staff attempt it themselves, leading to my car being hit (thankfully no damage but if it wasn't for my dash cam to see this had happened). This lack of professionalism was just the start. There is no parking available at all, trying to park to go inside to check in and hand the keys over for them to park is a nightmare in itself and you get this for the joy of $50 a night.
The room itself was unclean, with lipstick marks still on the glassware and rubbish in the room from previous guests which is simply unacceptable. The noise from what seemed to be next door was insane—it was so loud it felt like it was coming from inside the premises. Trying to relax or sleep was impossible. Add this to the clock tower that was also extremely loud, every hour you were sure to know the time!
The room size was shockingly small, and the setup was bizarre; the toilet and shower are in separate rooms, but the glass on the shower is see-through, so privacy is out the window. For a place that claims to be 5-star, it didn’t live up to even a 3-star standard. I couldn’t find any clear accreditation for this rating, and after my stay, I have serious questions about how it was even achieved.
A cashless premises, also charging a credit card/debit card surcharge - So you can never pay their marketed price, just adds to the insult.
Avoid if you’re looking for a high-quality, peaceful stay it is not worth it. The QT Newcastle is the place to go.

Dear Frank, Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your recent stay with us. We are truly sorry to learn that your experience fell short of your expectations, and we sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered during your visit. We deeply regret the concerns you faced with parking and the incident involving your vehicle. This is not the standard of service we aim to provide, and we will be addressing this matter with our team to ensure proper training and protocols are in place to prevent such occurrences in the future. We also apologize for the cleanliness issues in your room and the disturbances you experienced during your stay. Cleanliness and comfort are top priorities for us, and we have shared your comments with our housekeeping and operations teams for immediate review and improvement. Regarding the room design and setup, we understand that preferences vary, and we regret that it did not meet your expectations. Please note that our rooms are designed to standard specifications, and the neighboring Town Hall clock tower, which is beyond our control, was repaired a few months ago following efforts from our hotel. The clock tower now follows a schedule similar to Sydney Town Hall’s and does not emit noise during nighttime hours. Additionally, we would like to clarify that the glass wall between the toilet and bathroom is fully frosted and ensures privacy. We are also sorry for any inconvenience caused by our cashless policy and surcharge. We strive to maintain transparency in our pricing, and we will review how this information is communicated to ensure it is clear for all our guests. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us improve, and we deeply regret that your stay did not reflect the high standards we aim to provide. Should you decide to give us another opportunity in the future, we would be delighted to personally assist in ensuring your stay is a more positive and enjoyable one. Thank you once again for bringing these matters to our attention. We hope to have the chance to restore your confidence in us. Best regards,

Was looking forward to our first stay here and was not overly impressed. The room has nice finishes and the environmental efforts made are great (no wasteful single use soaps, for example). But the bathroom is a bit small, towels feel cheap and the room is quite noisy - can hear the lifts going up and down and other guests coming and going on one side, and the road on the other. Lifts are also a bit of a pain - with only 2 servicing the whole hotel and the popular rooftop bar, it can be a long wait at times.
Air conditioning also didn’t work initially, took a while for someone to come and look, still didn’t work and reception wouldn’t do the obvious thing and just move us to another room, despite saying others were available; they insisted we give them more time to try sort it out first. After coming back a few hours later, the air conditioning was just working with a weak airflow. Didn’t have the energy to go back yet again and ask for another room - it was a long night.
For the price charged, I expected better and probably won’t be back.

I'm glad we only stayed one night, and with a heavy discount. I've been fortunate enough to stay in a few 5 star hotels around the world, and I've stayed in much nicer 4 star accommodation than I would rate this. I rarely give bad reviews but I was very disappointed with a few things. The first and worst were the sheets. The bed was comfortable enough, but when we got back from dinner late, and exhaustedly rolled in to bed, the sheets were so starchy, stiff and scratchy, the worst sheets I've ever experienced. My husband fell asleep on top of the bedspread and it was very late, and so I did not want the rigmarole of requesting new ones and having a bed remade at 1am (with the risk of the sheets being the same anyway) so I put my jacket and pants back on and slept in those to have as little contact as possible. Not really a memorable 5 star experience. The air conditioning in the room made clicking/adjusting sounds about every 15 minutes as well all through the night, and the city lights just outside shone through the large gap at the top of the "block out" curtains which made it one of the worst night's sleep I've had in a while.
We were on the first floor so the view was simply the back of the pub behind the building. There is limited parking available so we had to park and walk about 10 minutes to a partner parking lot that cost $15/night. The room was nicely decorated to suit the round building but it was small, and the design really made it feel small, with narrow gaps between the bed and the walls.
On check in we had asked about a reservation at the bar the following night and was told that it was a "show up and see how you go" arrangement. However, when I checked online I was able to book a spot easily on the website. We also enjoyed the restaurant, which had great service and lovely food. However, I had booked the table 8 weeks in advance, requesting a table by the window, and we were still several tables back.
The city location is excellent, very central and close to Darby Street for cafes and restaurants and the Civic Theatre. Their eco focus was well executed also. I wish I had more positive things to say but I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

The hotel is one of the first I’ve seen that really have embraced eco friendliness and showing it. The water on the room is in cartons recycle bin in the bathroom
The room was cosy yet spacious, bed very comfortable. One thing missing was actual draw storage. Even the coat hangers are made if stiff cardboard.
The foyer is spacious and inviting, but the scent that is within the foyer area is very strong, and can be a little too much. Should be toned down.
One thing going against this place is what they charge for valet parking $50 per night
I could either street park. All limited time or drive 3 mins down the road some where to park.
I see this is price gouging and taking advantage of a guest. Hotel needs to re think their policy on this

Dear Scenic165779, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the fantastic views from our hotel and that you appreciated our commitment to eco-friendliness. We take great pride in our sustainability efforts, and it's wonderful to know that our guests notice and appreciate them. We are also pleased to hear that you found the room to be cosy and spacious, and the bed comfortable. Your feedback about the lack of draw storage and the strong scent in the foyer area is valuable to us, and we will certainly take it into consideration as we continue to improve our guest experience. Regarding the valet parking fee, we understand your concern and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Our parking has 45 bays and gets full very often as a result of the limited availability. We're comparing our parking price on a regular basis, and we find out pricing to be aligned with other nearby options. We truly appreciate your feedback, as it helps us to identify areas for improvement. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for an even better experience in the future. Warm regards,

The room was lovely, clean & comfortable and stylish.
Ms Marys, for what it offered, was expensive and the menu available at night was not of great choice. We were offered a limited choice from the lunch menu when I asked "Is that all there is available tonight?" about the evening menu. I felt the picture of the food online was false advertising, at least for the evening. You wouldn't really go there for dinner, though what we did get was good food.
The bar was a great ambience and view, but it closed at 10.30pm (Friday Night). We weren't notified that it was the last drink at 10.30, not informed, just ignored. Our empty glasses sat in front of us for more than 15 minutes, until I realised they were tidying up. The barman was didn't really care about us. The snack kitchen closed at 10. The young woman was apologetic and friendly.
The Bar time says 4pm til late on line. We weren't the only ones still there.
The Hotel could at least make the bar available to those staying at the hotel, until Midnight.
How easy would it have been to have a bowl of nuts or lovely plate of chocolate or cheese and biscuits available (for after the play has finished at the Civic Playhouse next door)?
The hotel needs to be informed about what is happening in town, even during COVID.
Was it because of COVID restrictions that we wanted more? If so this could have been relayed to us more clearly. It is supposed to be 5 STAR after all.

Dear Barbarsan644, Thank you for feedback regarding your recent stay with us at Crystalbrook Kingsley. I am thrilled to hear you enjoyed the accommodation and as you said, was clean and stylish. We are sorry to hear that we fell short of your expectations when visiting Ms Mary and Romberg's. The hotel has unfortunately had to make operational changes to adjust to the government Covid-19 guidelines. This has resulted in having to reduce trading hours for our venues and the capacity levels, therefore the hotel experience may have seemed a little different. It is disappointing to hear that you were given the impression that our team did not care about your experience, as guest feedback indicates we achieve high guest satisfaction in almost every case. It is through feedback such as yours that we may continuously ensure our guests receive the highest levels of service. We hope for the opportunity to better serve you next time and please stay safe during these times. Carl Taranto General Manager, Crystalbrook Kingsley
