Wanted last minute accommodation on a shoestring budget as I was working up there and my accommodation fell through. The Night manager was very helpful and also my vehicle was locked away in a secure area. The room was neat and tidy and clean so I was happy with that.

Cheap enough to stay and it was obviously grand a few years back. Clean and convenient located next to bus terminal. Hot showers and secure. Surrounding area is OK, maybe a little run down. 10mins to the town basin. Otherwise very little to do in Whangarei but decent enough place to Base yourself out of of you have a car.

We stayed for one night only, chose the Grand simply because the Queen stayed there back in the '1950s', I can definitely see that it would've been quite 'grand' back then, the stairs were just lovely. We had the balcony room, it was clean, dated but adequate and overpriced a wee bit. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would stay again,...

Dark purple walls and dust probably from 1953 when the Queen stayed there. But the towels were fresh, the bed was clean and comfy- and the staff were friendly . Definitely a hold-over from the more glamorous past when every NZ town had a place like this. It's above a pretty typical kiwi sports bar and there was a lot...

We spent three nights here and enjoyed ourselves. We had a twin room that was very spacious with comfortable beds, the bathroom was roomy and the shower had heaps of hot water and good pressure. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The first night I wore ear plugs as there was some music noise from the bar below, but I...

Yes, I loved those stairs, sweeping! This hotel was easy to find and walk to from the Whangarei Information Centre. Staff were easy to talk to and deal with. Its a little bit strange walking out of the building, around the corner into a bar/pub and then booking with bar staff, but I think they wear all hats. I did...

Check in had no record of booking, room was not as shown on site. No service at all, 40 watt bulb, couldn't read. Electric blanket but cord could not reach the plug. Felt like the hotel that time forgot. Could be quaint, but it ain't.!!

Having been here personally twice and in both instances, a one-night stay with a large group of people (~30 to 40), this hotel has great rooms, location, service, and price. The Grand Hotel has respectably clean rooms and comfy beds - also, the showers are great. The location is absolute fantastic being mere minutes’ walk away from the city’s centre....

Passing through travelling from far north to Auckland we needed somewhere to stay the night - the only reason for choosing this easy option. The positives were the walking distance to restaurants, clean linens and the fun fact that Queen Elizabeth ll had stayed in our room in the 50's (room or hotel doesn't seem to have been updated since)....

I have stayed at The Grand Hotel three times this year, and after visiting hotels all around the world, I can say that this place is value for money. The rooms are clean and comfortable, each with a nice, tidy bathroom. Our room also had an air conditioner, fridge and small flat screen tv. They have older style decor, which...
