Location is really great, two minute walking to the city centre. The view is awesome, you can see the sea from the kitchen - which is nice, has a reasonable size and you can find everything you need if you want to cook. Bathroom is also good with water pressure and hot water. Showers have a small area for you...

Good location though its a steep walk up to the hostel, follow pathway opposite the isite or you can walk slightly less steep hill up past the church. Comfy beds and good showers, very clean. You may have to wait to use shower as there are only two,for both men and women, between about 20 people. The manager was not...

We only stayed one night and were grateful for a comfy bed after a drive up from Queenstown. Well stocked kitchen, bathrooms adequate and there was even a spa pool if you wanted. Was lovely to see the sunrise.

Stayed for just the one night. Room was clean, but very small, and really basic. Fantastic views, friendly host and easy foot access to main street of Kaikoura. Stayed in a single room, with no toiletries provided (I had to ask for a small bar of soap), so come prepared.

I stayed for three nights in a four bed share room and found the hostel clean enough, but cramped. By way of introduction, Helen gave me the key and said I could ask the girls in the kitchen for any help - it was never clear who worked there and who were guests. In general, people were unfriendly but they...

This backpackers was recommended as being quiet, which is what I wanted. Stunning views from dining room and kitchen, clean, and a short walk to the isite for tours. Helen was very helpful and friendly. A more boutique style backpackers being fairly small. Bathrooms are ok, and Helen has plans to renovate in future. Spa issues are around local labour...

I stayed here for one night but wish I had more time. Helen is an excellent host - friendly, conversational, and helpful. She picked me up from the train station and brought be back the next day. I stayed in a 5-person dorm and the room was very clean and had enough space. The bathrooms were clean and the showers...

I've stayed at the Dolphin Lodge in August 2015 as a solo traveler. The lodge is located on a hill overlooking the ocean and the snow capped mountains. Helen (the owner) makes you feel welcome and after a quick check in I went to my room. I booked a double room with shared bathroom who was quite big, equipped with...

After reading the two terrible and one poor review we were a bit scared to walk in. Our room was number 1 and it was perfect. We have been traveling in NZ for 6 weeks and everything including so called 5 start hotels are tired and old. Constructions are not proper for the climate, etc. Dolphin Lodge is no exception....

I loved the feel of this backpackers. Facility is very clean, lovely and cosy, bed was comfortable, wide mix of age groups while I was there, kitchen area well equipped and always clean. Loved the resident cats and the fire. Walking distance to the I-Site, shops, cafes and restaurants. Gorgeous views from the deck of the ocean and snow capped...
